Two Bars on the line? Think about it!
i refuse to even consider this a possibility
Two Bars on the line? Think about it!
raising the bars, one brother after another!
Think they have him.
Do you have a guy feel here Magnus?
all my ND peeps think he is a lock for them. . .
Judging from the ladies' photos on his website, I think he leans the other way /NTTAWWT.
I think it's between Michigan and Notre Dame. I don't have a strong feeling either way.
Confidence from the ND fan base about a player is just like OSU confidence. They think they have everybody until that player goes somewhere, then they didn't what him or cooled off when he goes somewhere else.
The photo looks like it's straight out of Remember The Titans and he plays for T.C. Williams and Coach Herman Boone.
EDIT: I won the race!
There's no shame in losing to Ron Swanson.
I want a victory!
Does Quenton Nelson's (4-star OT) commitment to ND yesterday have any impact on Bars' decision?
Apparently they are taking 4-5 OL again this year, and all OL recruits know that.
my god, that fluke season notre dame had last year is like the best thing that ever happened to them. unbelievable.
Well one could say that our 8-5 season should have a lot of impact as well. However, we seem to be recruiting just fine
Eh, they were recruiting pretty well before that season as well...they benefited more from USC imploding. They got some of their best players from that.
it's always just a matter of how poorly coached they all are or how many of them leave after their first year
"I think Alex, who could play everywhere but center, is a significantly better player than Blake."
I think that last line is unneccessary.
I disagree. I was actually curious as to who is considered better of the two.
I don't think it's a dig, I think it's simply a handy measuring stick from a Michigan perspective.
People have seen Blake play and "Alex is a better player" just gives you a sense of where is skillset is at as a prospect.
Maybe something like this would be a better way of saying it. "In my opinion, Alex is the more talented player of the two brothers." Just a thought...
1) The difference between your suggestion and what he wrote is nothing more than semantics;
2) Blake is a big kid and can take the truth of the comparison. If he is hurt by it or disagrees, all the more motivation to work hard and prove the scouting report wrong (in a Tom Brady post-NFL-draft sort of way);
3) Nobody is saying that Blake is not a stud in his own right. Just that someone else looks like they may be better. Jake Long is significantly better than Taylor Lewan. Is that an insult to Lewan? Of course not - Lewan is possibly the best OL in CFB going into this year. But, having watched both play, Long was an absolute once in a decade lineman in college and was just better. (Just an illustrative example - I am not even sure I agree with the statement that Long is significantly better - both are f-ing awesome).
Accurate to say "will be" a better than "is". That said, correcting someone on that is akin to unnecessary grammar snobbery (aka "deuchebaggery") and I personally hate folks correcting other when you can get their drift already. Grammar snobs can suck it Magnus.
And if he is better than his older brother now, I love it even more if he commits!
and an obvious comparison. Some people are WAY too sensitive.
Magnus is providing his scouting report. Part o that is comparing the kid being scouted to others at the same position. Since this is a Michigan blog, a comparison that would be most interesting and most informative to us is one to a current Michigan player with whom we are familiar (at least from that player's scounting profile). Comparing him to some random Auburn freshman OL would be of no value to us. Also, they are brothers, so the comparison is kind of expected.
You are correct, except when you are scouting or comparing players you have to be honest and blunt
"is a significantly better player than Blake"
I really doubt he is a better player than Blake at this point. Blake is two years older and was in a college weight training program last yaer. How about, "I think he has a higher ceiling than Blake"?
You're certainly welcome to use that language when you're writing your own scouting reports.
People need to pick up a hobby or two.. Continue to do what you do. The majority appreciates your work.
Just some friendly criticism that a lot of people took the wrong way.
Not that I'm above criticism, but lots of people want me to tone things down...and if I listened to them, I'd be writing the same cheesy, sunshine-and-rainbows evaluations that the guys at Rivals and Scout write. I generally just say what I think; some people will like it, and some won't. Personally, I find evaluations to be completely useless unless they're frank about both the positives and the negatives.
Like I said, you're free to have your opinion. But chances are slim that I'm going to change my approach.
I'm on here often, but never post. I work in MLB baseball, evaluate players and write reports for a living. The whole idea of doing so is that our superiors can vision & Draft accordingly to where the future prospect will end up. Our reports like FB reports are from a different vernacular. Your opinion is done buy live and video evals. They are your opinion . They paint a picture in which others can follow- nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't feed the trolls. Continue to report. Thanks
blake, is that you?
Everyone is entitled to his own opinion.
You guys don't think he would be too slow? Just seems to be timid in the two games I saw him in last year.
OT, but it looks like Christian McCaffrey just committed to Stanford, per his twitter
Yeah...he's following in dad's footsteps.
Hopefully he doesn't break his leg in the same way, though.
His dad's injury was on Monday night football-- September 10, 2001. Yup. It was the lead news story that Tuesday morning... until about 9:11 am ET.
Wow...I think I vaguely remember that connection, but that's an odd bit of trivia. I have thought that there was never much made of that injury, because it was fairly gruesome...but I guess that timing is why.
well i guess you could say we're........RAISING THE BAR.
I guess you would call coach funk the BAR-tender
Unlike the SEC, we'll be happy when our QB is behind BARS.
He shows virtually all the tools you look for in an OL prospect. He would be the most talented lineman in this class, IMO. That's pretty good competition he's playing in TN too. Would not be surprised to see him start at RG and then move to LT. Dude can pull, and is a very, very good drive blocker.
FWIW: At the Outback Bowl I was on a fishing boat with Alex, his dad and his brother Brad who plays for Penn State. At least on the back of a fishing boat it was between Michigan & Notre Dame although he mentioned Georgia as a possibility which I havent seen mentioned anywhere.
Dad (who played for Notre Dame) said he encouraged his sons to make their own decisions and not be influenced by what other family members did. It almost sounded to me like he (dad) would prefer Alex to play someplace other than Michigan, Notre Dame or Penn State so he could forge his own legacy outside the shadow of anyone else.
great family. glad he at least eliminated OSU. Blake and brad both worked to make sure that happened(fwiw he was pretty high on them a few months ago)
