Scout update 2011 recruits

Submitted by rickiew04 on
Scout just updated their top 2011 recruits and Lawrence Thomas and Trey DePriest both are listed as the top MLB and OLB respectively. I know Michigan has connections with both of them. How awesome would it be if we could get both of these guys.

I do not think we have much of a chance with thomas at all, but I really really like depriest... I think we'll have a much better season , and he'll see the opportunity to come in and play early for a hopefully great team too..

he appears ticketed to MSU. we haven't pulled someone out of his high school in a while and his high school coach apparently doesn't love RR. as for trey depriest, he, unfortunately, is probably headed to OSU. we have a good shot at him, but OSU insiders appear more confident.

We started off so hot last year and started to get looks from Seantrel Henderson, Shariff Floyd and Marcus Lattimore. As soon as we went downhill, they went elsewhere. It all comes down to winning. Alabama is a perfect example, as soon as they started dominating, everyone wanted to go there. It's basically up to us on the field to get these guys seriously interested.

I really think we'll have a chance to pull in a five star or two next year... I think DePriest will be a high 4 star or 5 star on all of the sites.... I think Brown and Hollowell will be 3 stars by all of the sites to be honest, but I think a lot of the guys from Michigan will be really good... They may not be highly ranked, but I think the 2011 Michigan class is a really, really good one.

LT is a big MSU lean according to many people in the know, and he calls MSU freshman LB Chris Norman his "big bro." However, he already has offers from everyone in the country (he is rated #7 overall on Scout) and I wouldn't bet against Kiffin, Saban, etc. once they get to his living room. That being said, he doesn't really like UM and neither does his coach. For Thomas, it's either MSU or a top BCS program out of state.

If Lawrence Thomas is that high of a recruit, and he doesn't go to Michigan, I bet he heads south. He'll be recruited by Les, Saban, Kiffin, and handful of other elite coaches. Gholston was living with a highly pro-MSU guy, a different story than Thomas. Thomas grew up an M fan, which leads me to think that maybe his parents are M fans too (total guess) and merely has a pro-MSU/anti-RR coach. My guess is if he doesn't Go Blue, he Rolls Tide.

that may be true that he was a UM fan when young (although I have never seen this coming from him), but everyone in the know thinks he's headed to State. Most top recruits from his HS end up at MSU, and his BEST FRIEND (Chris Norman) has 3 years left at MSU. He's also close (although not as close as with Norman) with Mylan Hicks, who has 4-5 years left in East Lansing. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but it's a lot more likely for him to end up at MSU than at UM.

I wasn't saying I think it's likely he lands here, but a lot of people have been comparing him to Gholston, and they are different situations. Also, with Max Bullough and Chris Norman only 1 and 2 years ahead of him, respectively, he may see that it will be a lot more difficult to get early PT at MSU, as opposed to UM. I still think he ends up at neither.

Thomas possesses the frame to eventually play with his hand on the ground, too. Bullough and Norman are pretty locked in at LB (Norman will be a junior by the time Thomas steps onto a college campus though), but Gholston and Thomas are flexible. Unbelievably frustrating situation. If Lloyd was still here (I know that sounds bad, but that's truly not a shot at RR), we'd probably be the odds-on favorite for both Thomas and DePriest. In our current situation, we have no shot at one, and a fleeting shot at the other.

Brennen Beyer is ranked as #16 DE; he got a UM offer recently and is an in-state kid. Supposedly a heavy UM lean so hopefully we can get him to commit during Junior Day as we need DL. Interesting that Justice Hayes is ranked (#21 RB) whereas nothing has changed with Dee Hart; should be interesting to see how the coaches play it.

I can't imagine Thomas picking MSU over USC, Alabama, Florida, etc. That'd be huge for MSU. There's another year for him to pick someone else.

Yeah, but this guy is supposedly "better." I don't remember Bama pushing hard early, and I think they might with Thomas. Gholston committed early. Hopefully Thomas won't. The longer he stays uncommitted, the better.
