Scout Signing Day Predictions
Public info on Scout, Regional Mgrs give their predictions on Cooper, Jones, Poole, and Fisher, among undecided others (Scout top 300). None of them have Cooper going to UofM but all have Fisher going Blue. Scout guys also don't believe any of their top 300 undecided will pick MSU, which is nice.

Update: Scout has updated link since this morning. Scout guys all point to Iowa now for Cooper. No changes to the other 3 potential UofM guys listed.

can't wait to see that page peppered with block Ms next year.

Means very little.
MSU's being thrown around a lot for Cooper and other outlets have rumored Oregon to be ahead for Fisher.
Don't put a lot of stock in to what they're saying. We'll find out tomorrow when they announce.

But I think Fisher wants to play in a high-tempo spread-option -- it's almost like Rodriguez and Magee did such a good job selling the idea to him that he wants to go somewhere that runs an offense like theirs.

good point regarding fisher... but i have the opposite feeling on cooper, and think hes green, from his comments regarding how its not about facilities but its all about his relationship with the players, and his teammate is going to msu.

Per Tim in the comments on the front page, Sparty yanked his offer Friday.

Trying to be positive here, but that might help us... not only does it make MSU not an option, but if I was him I might want to go to a school where I could stick it to them for yanking my ship...

Iowa will also be playing MSU every year based on the current conference alingment, right?

in addition, that webpage hasn't been updated in over a week.

Out of curiousity - which is a priority (though both are) - Cooper (position of desperate need) or Fisher (super local guy we want to keep in state)?
February 1st, 2011 at 10:08 AM ^
1a and 1b in the priority list. Both are equally important to get.
Not trying to be diplomatic, it's just too hard to rank one over the other.

Tackle is also a position of desperate need. We have Posada in this class, but Magnus projects him as a guard. Fisher is a true blue-chip tackle, potentially the perfect bookend for Lewan in 2012. [I don't know anything about Schofield's progress.]
February 1st, 2011 at 10:23 AM ^
Agreed, but I think we're alright for the immediate future with Lewan and Schofield (Huyge for this year) and Posada going forward. On the other hand, going to a 4-man line with only 5 DT's assuming Rock absolutely needs a redshirt year is dicey.
I'd like both but either or would be great. Unfortunately, I think it's looking more and more like we miss on both. Tough break but getting them would only be icing on the cake for this class.

I would argue that OT is a position of greater need than DT. If we don't get Cooper, we'll have MM, BQC, QW, Ash and Talbott, plus RVB who can play DT and Chris Rock redshirting.
If we don't get Fisher, we have 3 scholarship OTs on the team, and Huyge is a senior. That means in 2012, our tackles with be Lewan and Schofield plus the 2012 recruits who will be redshirting (like all OLs do). I don't care how good of OTs we get in 2012, but being one injury away from burning a redshirt and throwing a true freshman into the starting line-up spells mega trouble.

I think the point of disagreement is that I don't see both Bryant and Posada being guards. Maybe they do in which case we be screwed but if we whiff on Fisher, I think we'd be able to get by provided we stock the cupboard next year.
Of course, Fisher could save us all the trouble and just come here...

I'm not sure why he lists Posada as a guard, since he certainly seems to have the build to play tackle in the B1G. Nonetheless, Magnus' evaluation, plus the fact Hoke spent some of his precious time pursuing Nowicki even though it was a long shot, tells me the staff pretty desperately wanted another tackle in this class.

Linemen can shuffle around. If they faced armageddon at the tackle position, I am pretty sure you would put an experienced/upperclassmen guard out at tackle before a true freshman.

I love how they are predicting guys who are already solid verbals to the school. I realize sometimes these guys shift at the last minute, but what's the point of clogging up the post with the Karlos Williamses and Kellen Crushbackers of the world?
February 1st, 2011 at 10:30 AM ^
this posting on Scout really doesn't bring much to the table...They are missing us as being finalists for Cooper and they don't even have Kellen Jones as being committed to us. So fwiw a lot could(and probably has) changed since their last update

They have Cooper down to Iowa or little brother who ? , but again what do those guys know !!! Go Blue. !

look at Pitts, Hobbi, and Mitchell (spelling?). Most were completely wrong on their prediction.
However, it is entertaining. Quite Frankly, TomVH probably has better information than most of these guys!
Regardless, I'm very pleased how we have been able to close and keep some important commitments, which required recruiting again themselves.

Any news on Brandon Alexander? Wasn't he the diamond in the rough DE from the south that Hoke has been in contact with? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I like our chances with Cooper, moreso than Fisher.
