Scout & Rivals Mods re: CC
I know a number of you also go to Scout and Rivals and view and/or contribute to their message boards so I was wondering if some of you could help me wade through who's more reliable.
Tom Beaver seems to be a RR apologist so he says RR is "trailing in the 4th quarter" and that the bowl will actually affect the outcome.
Chris Balas thinks a coaching change is going to happen but is not claiming any insider info.
So, I'm not trying to start another CC thread, I want to know if any of you know if these guys are slanted one way or the other. No offense but I don't care if you think RR will or won't get another year or if he deserves it, just trying to see what lens the Scout and Rivals mods are looking at this situation through if you know.

You just did.

If you say "So, I'm not trying to start another CC thread" it doesn't count.
Oh, and move the CC from the beginning to the end of the subject line.

and i mean with all do respect, this CC post aint worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin gettin it on
December 21st, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
Then again, what is?
December 21st, 2010 at 10:26 AM ^
Idk if he is starting another CC, by the sounds of it he is using the no homo/no offense rules. It may be homo and/or offensive but if u call it then it clearly can't be.
December 21st, 2010 at 11:13 AM ^
Saying no homo = "I'm insecure." I just had to get that off my chest.
December 21st, 2010 at 11:59 AM ^
Ahh...no......homo
December 21st, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
It's also homophobic, childish, and offensive to many people. Just had to get that off my chest.
December 21st, 2010 at 1:21 PM ^
I really liike it how people pick and choose what is offensive. People made crack about the Catholic Church a few days ago and nary a protest was heard.
But when gays are the target out comes the outrage. I agree that the "no homo" is what you say it is, but I cannot fail to notice the selective sensitivity on this board.
How about we all just stay away from gay, religious or political cracks?

Agreed.I think it makes sense for us to follow Brian's example in this respect. Still, I hope you can see the difference between taking a crack at a heavily persecuted minority group vs. a group that has a lot of privilege in our society and around the world.
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:00 AM ^
i'm going to have to disagree. In many subcultures of American society (if that's what we are), Catholics are the heavily persecuted minority.
I like your intent to protect, though. Basically, I think it's deserved and appropriate whether one's personal dignity and life are at stake or millions'.
December 21st, 2010 at 7:27 PM ^
I agree. The selective sensitivity here has always struck me as very odd.
December 21st, 2010 at 1:11 PM ^
And I enjoyed it. Yours, not so much.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:19 AM ^
I don't know about those guys specifically, but at this point anyone that's not David Brandon who claims to have any concrete indication of what will happen should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Please title all avatar change threads "AC," not to be confused with Anthony Carter threads. Some need to be changed, some I don't want to read about. Thanks for your consideration.

I am trying a polite way of "hijacking" threads.
Like the recipe below. Not intended to be serious.

Rivals mods definitely lean against RR and Scout is definitely pro-RR. But as you stated that's just the lens they view whatever info they get and also carries over to from whom they get their info.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:26 AM ^
wow, it's nice to hear someone actually answer a question rather than complain about the topic. thank you

That is because the snark to content ratio is inversely proportional to the intelligence of the initial post. You can't alter the laws of the universe and just wish the snark away.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to know.

Scout is indeed pro-RR, but I don't think the Rivals guys are firmly in one camp or the other.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:31 AM ^
I seem to remember in another thread on here that Tom Beaver said RR was out. I remember asking who is Tom Beaver.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:53 AM ^
December 21st, 2010 at 12:01 PM ^
Tom Beaver is a fake. All his info comes from other people, and he does that annoying talking in analogies thing to make you think he know something but doesn't.

Still sore about getting banned?

HEAD CHEESE
Ingredients:
• 10 cups water
• 1 hog's head, quartered
• 3 pig's feet
• 2 tsp salt divided
• 1 pound onions chopped
• 3 tbsp chopped parsley
• 2 cups diced celery
• 1 cup green onions chopped
• 1 tsp black pepper
• 1 minced hot chile
• 3 T Cajun seasoning
• 4 minced garlic cloves
Directions:
Measure water into 5-quart saucepot. Add hog head, pig's foot, and 1 teaspoon salt. Cook until meat is tender (roughly 150 minutes) and the pig's foot and head can easily be boned. Approximately 3 cups of liquid should remain in saucepot. Add remaining ingredients. Cook about 3 minutes. Remove meat from liquid. Reserve liquid. Remove bones, thicker pieces of skin, gristle and connective tissue from meat and discard. Chop meat.
Mix together the chopped meat and the reserved liquid with the vegetables and seasoning. Pour into a bread loaf pan. Chill thoroughly, overnight…unmold and slice. Serve with toast, a sturdy mustard and cold pickled vegetables.

I've actually had this before and it isn't THAT bad. It's like a very cheesy meatloaf...

Rivals & Scout seem to both have looked over the fact that we just signed MI Robot. I dont see us losing at all in the next 4 years with him as part of our team.

It doesn't say anything about Michigan wanting Hoke, instead it's just speculation that Hoke really wants the Michigan job and that may be why he didn't show interest in Pitt's opening
December 21st, 2010 at 10:20 AM ^
I would go with the one that's not claiming any insider information. Clearly this is the most honest a person can be that is trying to get readers to read their stuff yet still manages to tell his readers that he's got nothing real to offer them.
December 21st, 2010 at 10:29 AM ^
Tom Beaver is actively campaigning to keep RR - he's got all his readers believing in the virtues of his cult. My gosh, you can't even post one thing critical of RR or pro-JH without it getting deleted or you getting a "read only" ban. On the other hand, Balas and the other Rival mods, don't actively take a side while posting - they have appeared to remain more neutral - they're not overtly rooting for one side or the other.
I'm not sure why Beaver is pushing RR to stay so hard, but I think it has to do with his fear of losing his insider (Chris Singletary).
December 21st, 2010 at 10:46 AM ^
Funny how you can see things so differently. TB is in the "one more year for RR" camp, and he has stated that. No under cover campaigning there at all. Meanwhile over at Rivals, the mods have been actively bashing RR for years. Kind of sick actually. But whatever.
December 21st, 2010 at 10:54 AM ^
and if the mods have bashed RR at all, it must have very subtle about it, as I've not picked it up and up at all. Until about 2 months ago, I was a strong RR supporter and surely would have noticed.
December 21st, 2010 at 11:31 AM ^
As someone who belonged to that site for years, I never saw any of those mods bash a Michigan coach. They are straight down the middle.

I don't agree. John Borton, the publisher of the Wolverine, cannot possibly be described as a RR-basher. He has consistently sprung to his defense. Some of the staff writers are more crtiical, but they've always taken a fairly nuanced position. A typical Rivals article will try to see both sides of the issue and usually conclude that the evidence is somewhat sketchy. That's certainly how Jon Chait's instant analysis articles have been.
