Scott Sypniewski set to transfer for 5th year
Michigan long snapper Scott Sypniewski has decided to transfer to Vanderbilt for his 5th year. Best wishes to Scott, a great LS and a Michigan man.

He announced he was grad transferring a couple months back I believe.

I believe the purpose of the post was the destination not the fact he was transferring. Now is the long snapper's transfer location newsworthy? In the offseason you're damn right it is.

That's fine, I wasn't calling him out, just mentioning it he had already announced this in case anyone missed it.

How come you never hear about MSU or OSU players transferring to and from Vanderbilt, Stanford, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, etc...
And how often are we battling those schools for recruits vs. the majority of D1 schools?
There could be a pattern here.
February 16th, 2017 at 2:19 PM ^
You'll pretty much never hear about transfers to Princeton, seeing as they have essentially no grad programs..

Assuming you weren't being sarcastic, I'd suggest checking this link:

Yeah, I've been thinking of applying to their English PhD program.

OSU lineman grad transferred to Duke for 2017.

OSU: a great way to pad your GPA.

As a LS back in high school... LOVE US PLEASE!

Hate seeing a three year starter leave, but if a PWO can handle the duties going forward all the better. Harbaugh!!

This guy will be well prepped for life after football.
Best of luck!
February 16th, 2017 at 1:58 PM ^
AND he'll be able to throw a ball between his legs and accurately hit a distant target!
If that's not valuable life skills, I don't know what is...

Okay, now for the Sharon Stone pic...

Holy huge snapper, Batman.

Is that a true red? How big was it?
February 16th, 2017 at 4:48 PM ^
AND he gave a riveting performance in the documentary film of Moops' Holder of the Year video.
February 16th, 2017 at 2:04 PM ^
Why is he doing this? Because he was told by the staff that he needed to?
February 16th, 2017 at 2:06 PM ^
he was probably told, we aren't going to offer you a 5th year, which you aren't guaranteed anyways. We appreciate all of your hardwork and dedication to the Michigan football program, and you need to start exploring other options.
February 16th, 2017 at 2:14 PM ^
It's very well known that Harbaugh does not guarantee a fifth year for players. Not sure if the staff wasn't inviting him back for his fifth year or not. Nothing wrong with it for either party if it is the case. The player got his degree, can transfer without sitting out a year, gets a year of grad school for free and for some players they will get to play more.
February 16th, 2017 at 2:17 PM ^
Senior day for UM football - all 4th year players are announced now whether they are in their final year of eligibility or not, correct?

The way I see it is that a football career after college for a long snapper is pretty damn rare. There's not a lot of them in the NFL and the good ones stick around for a long time and move from team to team if anything. With low turnover, the demand is low and you'd have to be something to behold to break into those ranks.
The man is probably thinking more about his career after football, and Vandy offered more for what his career path is.
I don't know if that's true, but it certainly makes sense to me.
February 16th, 2017 at 2:19 PM ^
Follow up a Michigan undergrad degree with a Vandy Grad degree?
He's gonna do just fine for himself.
February 16th, 2017 at 2:24 PM ^
This guy is a fucking hero. He parlayed being good at long snapping to a free degree from Michigan and now Vandy grad school. Amazing.
February 16th, 2017 at 2:42 PM ^
I'd rather have Charlie Weis' skills: parlaying being bad at coaching into tens of millions of dollars from Notre Dame and Kansas.
Amazing.

Morris, Shallman, and Sypniewski choices are two Mid-American schools and what amounts to the Northwestern of the SEC (and then some). Very interesting ... in another recent post I wondered what was avaiable to the UMich grad-transferers.
February 16th, 2017 at 3:04 PM ^
Nice educational path! I think he'll do VERY well for himself. Good luck to the young man!!!
February 16th, 2017 at 3:10 PM ^
I'm ok if Harbaugh didn't ask him back given that we have Cheeseman and others and we need the scholarship for a grad transfer OL from Cal. 5th years are never guaranteed.
February 16th, 2017 at 4:13 PM ^
and put it all on him, but the horror from the MSU debacle began with a low snap. Not fair to judge a player on one play, but unfortunately at that position, mistakes stick out big time. Good luck to him and thanks for his hard work.
February 16th, 2017 at 6:15 PM ^
However, if it is a good play, it is completely fair.

He was by far my favorite. Cool that he gets to go do his thing at another school.
February 16th, 2017 at 6:12 PM ^
Perhaps your forgetting 2012 Sugar Bowl MVP and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Jareth Glanda.
February 16th, 2017 at 5:23 PM ^
Rocks. A great place to study, work and live. Sypniewski gave us his best, the coaching staff shared its evaluation with him, and Scott has decided to move. Good on him, always a Michigan Wolverine.
