Scoreboard update - Last Piece going up now! 9:57 CST
Looks like the last piece of the screen is being put in place now. It's Friday, what can I say.
Edit: Odd, link went to the wrong video. This should work:
I thought this was about the new scoreboard at the Big House. The link is a story about Crisler Arena renovations.
You have to go down the page and look for the proper video.
I figured that out but posts in the past took you right to the correct video. I wasn't trying to be a smart-ass, just letting the OP know. The scoreboard is very impressive though. I hadn't seen it since the first section went up a few days ago. That thing is enormous!
Odd. It is supposed to be about the scoreboard. The link is from the video. Watching it now.
It looks like they still have a column on the left, one on the right, and a row on the top to do. I doubt that they'd frame that much area around the screen.
I t seems like that is what they are going to do though, especially when you see the initial renderings of it.
I thought the frames were going to have certain slogans running around, or other stats out there.
Looking at the sketch, I'm pretty sure this is it. There is significant space around the top and sides.
Granted, the pylons in the above sketch appear quite notional, but those pylons are all under the display screen, with the frame around the display screen extending well beyond the outermost pylons. If the sketch is accurate (which it may well not be), there's more display screen to come.
Also from the Press Release, the said they would install "Two Lighthouse Impact 16 video displays". Seeing as we just watched them install a 4 x 4 grid, I'm going to assume they are done.
Now this process makes me feel like a kid removing my first padded bra....not as big as expected
Well of you expand it to the edges the ratio may still be accurate. You need to see how many inches the workers are and compare that to about 6 feet and calculate the size of the board that way.
The workers are about the size of my cursor and the current height of the screen is about 8.5 cursors. So 6x8.5=51. The size is supposed to be 47.1 so it's pretty close to my estimate, which tells me the screen is done and the frame will fill in the extra space.
You post this picture every time. Is this legit? Or is it a guess?
Anybody have an idea what those lollipop-looking things are on top of the top HD panels? There is about 25 of them. They might tell us something about what is intended to be there. Are they lights or just structures to attach something to?
But as of right now (3:45 pm EST) it appears the upper left hand corner has a new panel attaching the lollipop-looking things to the main screen. Maybe there is more screen going up?!?
Below is a screen capture of the board as it looks now. They put in a row of small pieces of screen at the top, so the overall video screen is now just a little bit taller.
Raoul is right, you can only see the tops of the 'lollipops' now, so they have definitely increased the size of the screen since yesterday afternoon. This makes me think they are trying to be on schedule to have these things working at the BBQ. I hope we get to see them testing the screens through these cams!
(I've no doubt that you will.)
But of the Top Ten biggest jumbotrons in college football, almost all of them are single boards. Like Texas; where Godzillatron is the biggest one, but there's just one, in the one (south?) endzone. In fact, isn't that the norm? One jumbotron in one endzone, and a much smaller board in the other?
I'm just not sure, but might Michigan's two big boards be the "most scoreboard size" in the country? This is a bit of arcana that I am certain Dave Ablauf's staff will be working hard on for the next six weeks...
The previous scoreboards had the very top row for speakers for the sound system, IIRC (behind the MICHIGAN STADIUM SIGN). I'm assuming they'll do the same with the new scoreboards.
the dominos logo go?
I'm looking forward to seeing what font theyl write MICHIGAN STADIUM on that top space.
I'd like to see interesting lasting thing on the sides, like the year's we've won national championships and the school seal on the other side.
Rumors that it will be the original "Michigan Stadium" font from the old press box.
And all that I know is that the architects of the renovation didn't like it at all. I'm pleased that they found a place for the old letters, but I've gotten over them now.
While we've apparently abandoned the Split-M logo officially (and that's fine with me), I still like the font from that version. If I were the AD, the "Michigan" in the split M would be exactly recreated in each enzone (complete with all-Maize background) and on both scoreboards.
Xtreme Split M post! Personally, I favor the plain Block M (maize on blue) on the backs of the new scoreboards, and put wolverines with maize fangs on a maize background in the endzones.
But where will the Adidas logo go?
/s
Is that really a rumor, or is it just the hope of some of us here?
I'd like to see MICHIGAN STADIUM in Book Antiquia bolded and in all caps.
I know Book Antiquia is the official font of UM, but I like the consistency and the font.
If I keep clicking on your link will I lose time or gain time?
It looks like there will be enough room for NC's, B1G championships and the complete list of scores from the Little Brown Jug.
I can't wait to read the Slippery Rock scores off of those.
Cant wait to see Brady Hoke point at stuff on those huge boards
Looking at the artist rendering provided by the athletic department, the supports frame the outside of the display area. So they've got some more panels to put up
I wish that were correct, but I don't think it is. The portions of the structure currently uncovered by panels seem to match the dimensions of the rendering very well. I can't imagine that is "wasted" space, but looks like about 20 ft horizontally and 7ft vertically won't display anything.
Also, the bottom strip from the rendering is likely a separate piece that has yet to be installed. Anyway, I hope I'm wrong.
Howeva, don't forget the all new Harman-Kardon/Klipsch/BOSE speaker arrays, complete with the "Spinal Tap" volume knob, for the RAWK MUZIK, DUDE!
The new scoreboards are so big you can almost point in any direction while taunting opponents with the "scoreboard " blast. nice
that we have to sit through a video commercial just to look at a static snapshot of a scoreboard? I mean geez, I am in advertising myself, but man, this is a bit much IMO.
The pace at which these have been going up lately makes me think that they really want to get those up and running by the BHBBQ next weekend. It probably would help "wow" some of our undecided recruits and definitely add to the complete package that the Big House is.
