Scoreboard Raised; Yost Still Standing

Submitted by Raoul on

Photo from umichhockey shows that the enormous new Yost scoreboard has been raised—and to Red Berenson's relief its weight has not collapsed the old barn.

As I mentioned in the previous thread on this, each of the four main boards are 13 feet by 16.8 feet, which if I calculated correctly is equivalent to a 250-inch screen.

UPDATE: Mgoblue.com has a video up showing the scoreboard being raised. It looks perfectly straight in the video, so the crookiness in the picture noted in the comments is probably from the angle from which the picture was taken. The video features an interview with Craig Wotta, the manager of Yost. He says some lights and banners are being moved to fit around the new scoreboard.

UPDATE #2: The mgoblue.com video has been posted on youtube. I can't get it to embed here but have placed it in a comment below.

Gorgeous.. I love it. it'll be a nice improvement being able to watch that scoreboard.

Are the changes to Yost (I think they said adding more seats?) supposed to happen before this season, or just in the near future?

If you follow the bottom of the board relative to the seats in the background, it is off.

Still, it could be the angle of the photograph. I've seen some weird optical illusions from seemingly normal pictures.

. . . I did a bit of rounding. I figured someone on this board would chime in with the exact figure (which is actually 254.9 inches, isn't it?) Anyway, I think 250 sounds better than 255.
