Schiano to Pitt?

MOAR RUMORS!

Via CardiacHill.com

The majority of Pitt fans seem to be very on board with the possibility of this hire, and I agree, it would be a good hire for them. Of course, a lot of us here on MGo can breathe a sigh of relief, as I believe most of us thought of Schiano as a desperation we-have-no-one-else hire. For Pitt it honestly could work.

LET US NOW SAY NICE THINGS ABOUT SCHIANO TO PITT TO ENSURE TO THE FOOTBALL DEITIES THAT IT HAPPENS

Sorry, but LC started "our collapse" when he encouraged so many his former players to transfer and his "supporters" started telling HS coaches not to send their players to Michigan.

Infighting threw the program into the ditch for seven years.  Hopefully, the "factions" have learned their lesson and will pull behind whoever is hired.

Considering who they are, I think it would be a good choice for them. James Conner is someone who Schiano can ride for some early success. Plus Schiano has history/connections in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, etc.

Pitt's a good fit for Schiano, as Magnus outlines above.  Schiano's a good fit for Pitt, with his East Coast ties.

And Schiano at Pitt is an excellent fit for Michigan.

Everyone's a winner!

Thank you Pittsburg! A solid hire for a program that has had to make far too many recently. Kills two birds with one stone because now I can stop hearing the ludacris rumors that we had serious interest in him.

Assuming they hire him of course...

Lots of talk on the sports talk radio station in Pittsburgh this morning about the possibility of Schiano to Pitt; they keep mentioning that article from several weeks back on what Schiano has done with his year off from coaching, how he's changed, etc.

With the roster Pitt has now (strong OL, decent QB, two outside Heisman candidates) on offense fits with what Schiano does and presumably would want to do.  Plus, if he can do what he did at Rutgers, honest to God, the Pitt fanbase would be content with by and large.

After he went something like 10-34 in his first 4 years at RU, he was consistently winning 8-9 games a year, and going around .500 in conference, again, at Rutgers where he was consistently competing with more talented teams.  He'll have an easier time recruiting at Pitt than at RU.  If he wins 8 games a year (and doesn't lose home games to Bowling Green, as Wanny did as a ranked team, or to Youngstown State and Akron, as Chryst did while at Pitt), goes .500 in conference, and has a couple weeks in the top 25, he'll be fine.

He's hardly at the top of my list for UM coaches, but I have him higher than some of the guys we've read about in the CC threads, and I MOST CERTAINLY have him over Addazio, but for Pitt, he should be at the top of their list.  Another guy I wouldn't mind Pitt calling would be Brady Hoke.

but he's not a job hopper (in fact he turned down Michigan to stay at Rutgers). I think the guy is a good coach, who tried and failed miserably in the NFL and should know to stick o college. He could do decently well at Pitt (7-10 win seasons regularly) and everybody would be happy.

I don't have the points to make a thread, but Hunter Lochmann has "resigned" after his comments the other day. Will be announced this morning, and could someone please make the thread for me? Thank you.

Sam Webb just said there is going to be an announcement out of the AD very soon today about personnel changes, and he stressed that it has nothing to do with the football search or the Athletic Director position.

I bet your hunch or inside info is correct.

On one hand him going to Pitt avoids the slim possibliity of a Michiagn hire, resulting in the collapse of MgoBlog and me having to actually do more work in the office.

On the other, isn't Pitt also considering Narduzzi?  I'd like him to leave.  For no other reason but to see if it was him behind the defense or Dantonio.

If its not on football scoop then IDK if i can give it any credibility. I think we'd be better off to wait for michbro 1-10 to chime in, lol as he is just an interested commentator w no affiliations to the scoop

Jim Thomsula

DL Coach for the 49ers

On the one hand, might he know something relevant to the UM situation??????????

Or is it more that he's from Pittsburgh?

WHAT COULD IT MEAN?!

I just can't believe Pelini didn't wait to see if he could get the Pitt gig before he signed up with YSU. Perhaps his agent made contact and they weren't interested (I have to believe that the Nebraska AD would tell everyone who's listening to steer clear of the guy) but still it would have been a great fit, as its a stone's throw from Youngstown and Pelini's preferred recruiting region.

Let me state this clearly, since it appears this will never stop: PELINI WAS NEVER GOING TO COACH PITT WITH PEDERSON THERE AS AD. I don't know why some people continue to fail to understand that an AD who did not retain Pelini when he was interim at Nebraska (and instead went with Bill Callahan) was NEVER going to hire Pelini at Pitt.
