Is Schembechler Hall open to the public?

Nope, unless Jonas Mouton happens to be walking by.

I e-mailed the Facilities Manager of Schembechler Hall back in March, and he allowed my Dad and I to take a day during the week and peruse all of the trophies in there.  I guess he could tell in the e-mail how passionate I was as an Alum, and that's why I was granted access. 

Just make it known that you really want to see everything, and they're usually pretty acommodating.

During the season, especially at the end of the week?  Absolutely not.

The museum used to be open to the public, but it hasn't been for probably close to a decade.  It's too bad, because there's some amazing stuff in there.

It is worth a shot at least.  I took a personal tour of the whole place this summer when I wondered in an open door.  No one was around so we kept wandering.  I felt like a kid in a candy store.  Touch nothing but drink up with your eyes. 

There is a good shot you may catch someone walking out and if you are nice enough you may be able to look through the museum.  I can't imagine much more of a tour than that on a game week.  Enjoy!

I got a chance to poke through Schembechler a couple times over the years for a couple different reasons, some band stuff when I was in school, and a Victors Club luncheon or two in the early 90's.  Besides the museum, there isn't much to see in there unless you're a pretty big M football dork.  

The two things that stick out to me were the bulletin boards above the drinking fountains, with (quite literally) bulletin board material tacked up there, photographs of certain players from the other team, some Lloyd-ism-esque sayings (I was there the Thursday afternoon before the '07 OSU game the last time).  It was kind of funny, actually.  You never really think about the fact that the phrase "bulletin board material" actually means something tangible.

The other thing that stuck out was that outside the training room the walls had every team picture going back to 1879, and (if I'm remembering correctly) pictures of All-Americans and award winners, too.  Geeked out parked in front of those for a while.  Also got to see Chad Henne getting a pep talk from John Navarre, and then Desmond walked by...  It was awesome.  Just kind of hung around awkwardly until they ushered us into the reason we were there.

but it was so much nicer was stuff was cramed into the display cases at Crisler.

Betcha Dave Brandon does something to either open Schembechler Hall to the public or all the trophies and memoribilla makes its way to a new place for the public to see.

It's not formally closed to the public, but it's rarely open. As this thread demonstrates, if you happen to be there when it happens to be open they will let you in.

This is one cool thread.  I hope everyone who has a story being in there will keep adding to it.

and they had security by the entrance the players come in, I told them I was taking a potential student on a tour and asked if I could show him around for 5 minutes and they obliged.  But probably mostly because I was hell-a-smooth....
