And I qoute How about we put the full court press on  Les Miles or Bob Stoops and get this drama over with. No offense to Jim but Michigan has got things it needs to get done.

Do you really think Les or LSU cares that much about the Music City Bowl?  We're pretty clearly in Harbaugh wait-and-see mode now, unless we're also after an NFL coach or someone involved in the CFP or another big bowl.  What that does mean, though, is that it gives our other targets a nice excuse to focus on their current teams while we figure out what our obvious #1 target is doing.

If Harbaugh had said no already (which I doubt) and Miles were Michigan's next choice (which I also doubt), I think we'd have already seen Miles' hiring press conference.

If we wait indefinitely, Harbaugh's options may open up and it could be harder to get him.  We should not offer an unreasonable deadline.  Perhaps we could even leave some uncertainty about the exact date that we would hire another coach.   But some time pressure is usually good for a negotiation..

1. Draft picks. SF will want these in trade (and Harbaugh would not want his next team to give up anything substantial).

2. Geography.  Gertrude Stein once said of Oakland: "there is no there there."  The saying takes new meaning in the Harbaugh recruitment, as there is no certainty that going to Oakland will mean going to Oakland.  Who knows where the team will be in a year or two?  Who knows how Harbaugh and family will react to the uncertainty.

If Oakland moves to LA, then Harbaugh will be closer to his ex-wife and family (who live between Anaheim and San Diego).  But I wonder how Harbaugh’s current wife would like that. Harbaugh already has precious little time to spend with his current family.

On the other hand, if Oak does not go to LA, there is likely to be at least a year of uncertainty about where they will go.  They are not likely to stay in their current stadium, and the owner mentions the possibility for a Raiders move to San Antonio.*

DAVIS:  “it’s just amazing that a city that never had a team and wants one–what they’ll go to to bring one there….–the desire for a team from San Antonio, it’s just really amazing.”  Davis goes on to say that the NFL’s G4 fund for a stadium would apply for a move to another such place.

If Harbaugh and his wife think that taking an Oak job would avoid the need to move, they had better think twice.   If Harbaugh comes to UM, at least his family will know where they are staying and where their kids will grow up.  Harbaugh’s wife also would be closer to her family in Kansas.  In addition, they would have a lot more job security than afforded by the NFL.  That might start to mean something if Harbaugh loses today and is let go by SF soon.

Ugh. I think Harbaugh does have real interest in the UM coaching job, but I don't think he's any sort of lock. Tire fire or not, if Oakland throws the GM/coaching combo at Harbauh, I think he'd be very interested. The GM/coach combo worries me much more than the money.

job than the UM job. None of us knows what he is thinking because he is not talking. Just because you have reasonable rational for why Jim would take the Raiders job does not mean that Jim shares your opinion. I am not saying I know what job Jim is taking. Anybody posting here who claims to is either wearing maize and blue or silver and black glasses.

If Oakland throws GM/coach at harbaugh, that will get him. Say what we want about how Oakland is currently, but it is a franchise with a lot of history. Even though Harbaugh may love the challenge of bringing Michigan back, he may love the idea of bringing back one if the NFL's most famous teams....

Its asinine to say say that if Oakland throws coach/GM at him they will get him.

Also the Raiders aren't GB, Pitt, or Dallas.  They aren't one of the league's most famour teams.  Do you realize how many guys have thought they were bringing back the Raiders and failed? It is a long list.
