Ann Arbor too? Or am I mistaken?
i would find this more credible if it was about Tom Crean
Ann Arbor too? Or am I mistaken?
but that is probably the one he had the messy divorce with ...
There's a pretty good argument to be made that the best coach available is only available because we just fired his ass.
I swear, we better get a kick ass coach out of this fiasco.
Acoording to sources, including TomVH, a lot of players lost faith in RR after the Gator Bowl. You can't possibly keep a coach if that happens.
but my argument remains.
Besides, I remember hear something once about the market value of a bird in the hand, especially when compared to the value of birds that have yet to be displaced from their current residences...
If you have a team who doesn't believe in their coach then we'd be right back to 3-9 or 2-10. What happens then?
My point was that the best available college football coach in America right now is probably Rich Rodriguez. So regardless of the circumstances or whether it was the 'right' decision, we just fired the best available college football coach without a back-up plan.*
(You'd also got a tough argument to convince me that Michigan would have finished no better than 3-9, though that number is certainly in play for next year)
*If Adam Schefter is right... which, like, whatever
I agree that RR is the best available coach. My opinion is that the way DB handled the situation there was no possible way that he could bring RR back for another year or give him an extension. Thinking retrospectively all signs pointed to him being fired.
I was also under the impression the DB was this crazy bad ass and that we would have a coach to introduce by now. I think I bought too much into the DB pimp hand thing and was duped into thinking it was all taken care of.
That's a completely unfounded feeling at this point in the process.
I actually saw an antique roadshow with that. Some lady came in with some bird in the hand she found in her attic. The guy appraised it at about two in the bush. She seemed really surprised.
I like the Niners, good for Jim. On to other candidates.
Gruden or Patterson plz
Should be fun to see the Carroll-Harbaugh rivalry renewed in the pros. It looks like Michigan was never a long term option for Harbaugh so at that point I'd rather see him in the NFL and end some of the speculation.
Hopefully we can also wrap up our own search now that the guy we pretty much had to wait for is off the board.
If true, he never wanted to come home. If so, screw him.
... he already thinks he's home.
He obviously wants to coach in the NFL, and this is a great chance in a town where his wife is comfortable and he doesn't have to move. This is his perogative. Good luck to him.
Now, if it had been Stanford, we would look bad.
75% Hoke, 25% Miles.
is a fantastic place to live & raise a family (moreso if you make good money). The guy was going to make more money that anyone needs to live comfortably forever regardless of where he went, and there are no garuantees with coaching jobs, so maybe he put his family first in this case. Can't hate the guy for that.
But can I hate the 49ers?
I would like to neg-bomb you right now. Sadly, I cannot.
What's the average tenure of a pro coach, anyway? 4 years would be my guess based on the fact that there are a dozen Mariuccis for every Belicheck out there. Hope for JH's sake he's a Belicheck, but I bet he'll come to rue his decision 4 or 5 years from now.
Or the way things now look, maybe we get him the next time around ...
Any chance Schefter is the new Herbie?
Unfortunately, Herbie is the new Herbie. He said he'd be "shocked" if Harbaugh didn't end up in Ann Arbor.
I really didn't want to have to hate our head coach with a burning passion. Anyone but Harbaugh.
By the way, he played Michigan like fools, used us (and other teams) as leverage to get more money and left us with our pants down. Looks like I had this guy pinned from day 1.
AHHHHH SEE YA SEEYA SEEYA
Sounds like Miami, Oakland, and Denver provided all the leverage needed. Schefter suggested Harbaugh turned down Miami's offer because it wasn't all about the money.
Sucks. No idea where this goes now.
shit fuck poop
Stop this "Screw Harbaugh" crap. He doesn't owe Michigan anything. God forbid he stay in SF because he doesn't want to uproot his family.
are you serious? He owes michigan everything.
He started for three years at QB, beat OSU, and took us to a Rose Bowl.
So yes, I am serious. He owes the university nothing.
pretty sure beating osu and going to the rose bowl was a team effort. he also wouldnt have had those opportunities without Michigan. I'm guessing by you're just trying to be poetic or something
What exactly does he owe Michigan? What entitlement do we have as an alumni community for him to be our coach?
I - for one - reject any sense of entitlement to a coach who played at our school 20+ years ago. I live by the credo that you have to do what is best for you and your family first, and - frankly - going to the NFL in the Bay Area would beat the hell out of returning to A2 and rebuilding a football program.
I am honestly shocked by the level of arrogance and sheer selfishness that many UM fans harbor. This coaching search has been disappointing, but we as a school are not "owed" anything.
Agreed. There are children amongst us.
Screw Harbaugh for numerous reasons.
(But you're right, family first and I can't fault his decision.)
Did he loose the one chance that he had of ever being a Michigan head coach or will the doors opening once again if he fails in the NFL?
I have to think he considered that in making the decision and became okay with not ever coaching at Michigan. If he didn't think about that angle, he's a bigger idiot than I make him out to be.
This I agree with. He had someday NFL aspirations, and his family does not seem to have been looking forward to Ann Arbor. Leave it be.
We are not in this pickle because of Jim Harbaugh ...
JH can lick my taint.....
"SF not an option", pff! Thanks for toying with our minds, Schefter.
It's not so bad that he's pushing 60, often the catholic church picks an old pope knowing they will die soon. Miles hasn't got a lot to lose coming to M... fix it he's a hero, wallow in mediocrity and he retires. Also, he acts the way he does because he's playing by SEC rules now..he has to do what he has to do to beat Saban who is doing the same things. He'll dial in to M and the Big10.... Good track record (much longer than Harbaugh's), excellent recruiting tool....BEST OPTION
you don't have to dick 18 year-olds over in the process. The oversigning is bad enough. Publicly screwing kids over and then lying about it is unethical.
But the stiff upper lip folks with the serious $$$ are a-skeered of Miles' "irregularities." Hell, it's Louisiana--they won't even notice you if you're not a little goofy.
sniff...snifff...what's that smell?
is it weird that I hope that he fails miserably there now? its sad that the guy wanted to go coach an NFL team for 5 years instead of restoring Michigan to glory and becoming the second coming of Bo. He could've been on an MGoBlog TShirt!
I wanted Harbaugh, even if he was going to be in for only a few years and then head to the NFL on the grounds I thought he'd be an excellent guy to get a system going. The kind of guy who would leave talented assistants behind, etc. I was fine with that. The idea of say his D-Coord stepping up in 4 years when Harbaugh goes to the NFL was not a horrible idea. Plus of course we'd have a coach in the NFL hopefully drafting our guys and making recruiting easier. We could have been a feeder team producing the kinds of players the Harbaughs wanted. That would mean lots of people taken on draft day and make recruiting easier.
Over the past week though it has become clear that if Harbaugh was going to coach here it would be because Stephen J. Ross had either filled his house full of money or put a gun to his head. Harbaugh wasn't going to be here because he loved Michigan and the thought of saving his alma mater. He'd have won, he's too competitive not to try his hardest and field winning teams, but he'd have no long term loyalty. No long term desire to leave a system behind. He'd have come in, gone through the motions of saving us, won a few bowls and then headed to the NFL without a second thought. He wouldn't have used his position has a NFL head coach to make recruiting easier or the like.
I'm all for going to TCU and making a lot of people on that staff very rich if they come to Michigan. As to Harbaugh I wish you the best and if it is ever proven you left Brandon at the altar I hope you get your ass kicked by the Colts in the Super Bowl and have to watch as Hart runs for 100 yards and 5 TDs.
I don't know if SF can ever reach the Super Bowl. The only thing they have going is that they are in a easy division.
I thought Mike Hart already did that
I can't take this anymore. I am so disappointed in DB right now and I don't know that he can totally redeem himself in my eyes.
This just sucks. I'm really sick and fucking tired of getting shit on as a UM fan. I can't wait to see my facebook page fill up with sparty friends taunting me about UM's mediocrity...the worst part is I can't say shit back without referencing glory days.
I know the worlds not over, but I am still pissed.
This isn't Brandon's fault -- Harbaugh obviously just wasn't interested in coming here.
And, as has been reported, some players had lost faith in RichRod after the bowl debacle. Brandon might have been considering keeping RR (as was my preference heading into the Gator Bowl), but after that, he had no choice.
He did what he felt he had to do: He fired RichRod and went hard after Harbaugh, and it didn't work out. He's obviously also vetting other candidates, with Fitzgerald the only known one so far.
Let's see what happens before we flip out. I'm holding out hope for Patterson, personally, but Mullen would also be fine. There are good coaches out there besides Harbaugh.
I just had to get that out of my system. I know there are other good coaches out there, but it remains to be seen if we get one. My biggest fear is we go conservative and hire a Brady Hoke because it's safe (which in my personal opinion is not safe at all, cause if he sucks it up we're going to be in a divided fanbase situation like the RR debacle).
Another part of the disappointment is a longtime UM lover like Harbaugh wouldn't even consider coming home at a once in a lifetime opportunity. That shows the program isn't quite what it used to be if someone like that tells us "Thanks, but no thanks"
I'm in a wait and see mode before completely losing it. Losing out on JH sucks tho
