Scheduling Questions

Submitted by Ziff72 on

Just got back from golf and the I log on to see madness break loose with the scheduling.  After going thru Brian's posts I have a couple of questions that didn't seem to get answered.  It appears Brandon and Delany were on BTN quite a bit from the posts did they address any of these questions, I'm curious their answers.

Why schedule cross-overs  the last week and risking replays in the Champ. game?

Why not Mich/OSU in the same division?

Why do we have Neb/OSU home and home the same year?

1) Only cross-overs last week is the Game and Ill-Minny, others are played earlier in the season.

2) Didn't address, though both Brandon and OSU AD mentioned they like the opportunity to play in the title game a second time.

3) Didn't address, but the first thing was to ensure we play OSU at home in 11 and at State in 11 (vice OSU getting PSU at home in 10 and 11).  Not preferable, but we've been doing it with PSU & OSU the last couple.  Expect us to drop the ND game some years (particulary in 15 and after) since it is on the same cycle (and ND doesn't want to change that with their USC game alternating nicely for them).

Speaking of which, the Big Ten may want to get rid of the two-year scheduling plan.  The next two years, our cross-divisional opponents are OSU (protected), Illinois and Purdue.  After that Ill and PU presumably drop off the schedule, to be replaced by two of PSU, Wisc and IU.  Which means that one of those three schools won't play us for the next four seasons as it now stands.  And this will be true for every school, since every team has a protected cross-divisional game.  The average player will go his career without playing one team.  The conference needs to rectify this.
