On various message boards, many people were complaining that this game was on the schedule. Bear in mind, Michigan was coming off of a 3-9 season, and at that point I doubt Martin & Rodriguez wanted to make things any harder on themselves.
There are important positives coming out of this game. A lot of reserves got valuable experience, several banged-up players were able to take the day off, and there were no new injuries. If you were going to have what amounted to a bye week, this was the week to have it, with PSU coming in next Saturday.
Rodriguez and Martin have made clear that their priority is to have 8 home games in the years when they don't go to South Bend. They made an exception for UConn, but there won't be very many of those.
I suspect even Rodriguez would agree that a game this easy doesn't really tell you much about your team. Once Michigan is a national contender again, that will be the time to schedule more difficult opponents. For now, I was glad to have the game against Delaware State.
