"Yeah, so what? I can't wait till he leaves for the NFL after a national championship. Then you'll suck. I give him 4 years max."

OSU fan/ brother in law.

Man, I hope for my own selfish reasons, Brian dusts of the ol' This Week in Schadenfreude hat and makes a post about this stuff.  It's been a rough few years for football fandom, and I could use some schadenfreude.

Every Sparty/OSU 2 weeks ago...

"You're delusional if you guys think he's going to leave the NFL..."

Friday...

"He's obviously not as good a coach as we all thought if he's coming back to college.."

Today...

"Good for you guys, I don't think it changes anything about your team..."

People are terrified of Harbaugh and it makes me laugh hysterically.

Been at work for 10 minutes (in Lansing). I haven't brought up Michigan at all. One coworker said Harbaugh is overhyped and so "there's no way he can win." Second said, "He's gonna be gone in 2 years. And that's not long enough to start winning." Friggin Lansing.

It started when my boss walked up and said "Sad day for Michigan football, huh?"

what they say now.  I'm waiting for next season...and the season after that...and the season after that.

As Kenny Mayne says, one of the only ESPN guys I like, "Revenge is a dish best served with cold cuts."

We SUCK right now. With or without Harbaugh, we're currently a horrible team.

Now after a offseason of improvement, when I see it on the field that we've turned the corner...THEN, I will do my happy dance.

Christmas eve a family member told that Michigan just hired another Hoke. According to him, Harbaugh acts like a maniac on the sidelines....this is coming from a guy that worships a guy that punched a Clemson player. He may get animated during a game, but that's just what Michigan needs - passion. Michigan lacked that for the past 4 years. Despite numerous reports he sees no way Harbaugh would ever go back to college let alone Michigan. It's denial at its finest. As happy as we all are, some OSU and MSU fans feel emotions equally as strong on the opposite end of the spectrum. They fear Michigan could be back in a few years. Needless to say this makes me never happy.

I live in Columbus and the people I work with are fairly good about UM/OSU banter.  They have been asking about updates throughout the search and what not.  Today, no one has said a word to me yet about it.  I sense fear.

You can pick any one of the 170+ pages at RCMB that they have devoted to this search.  It is by far the most viewed and participated in thread over there right now.  However, if you don't want to have to take another shower today I'll save you by simply saying it's gone from:

"you idiots are so desperate, no one would come from the NFL to Michigan",

to

"He's not that good of a coach"

to

"We still have the next two years to enjoy beating Michigan"

pretty quickly in the last two weeks.

I sometimes wander to RCMB to try and see their point of view on topics, but their comments are just so middle schoolish that it's almost impossible to get any substance from that site. We need to beat them next season, the reaction would be golden.

At first they completely disregarded this as a pipe dream from a desperate fan base, and basically thought it was sad that we were hoping for this.

This turned into shock that it might actually be a possibility.

Now I sense nothing but absolute fear.  The reactions I got range from:

Well, it's good for Ohio State if Michigan is good

He was only 29-21 at Stanford, he's not that good of a coach- is something I'm hearing a lot, which is pathetic.

The funniest one I've heard is that MSU already has the state on lockdown, and Ohio State is too good for Michigan to catch up, so it won't matter anyway.

That Jim will not be able to turn it around fast enough, so he'll hop for the NFL in 3 years.

And finally, one of my friends who actually admitted that he was praying we didn't get him, and now he's terrified that we did.

I've got two coworkers who have been asking about the coaching search. One is crazy Raider and Gopher Fan (da hell?), the other is a Bears and Badger fan.
Raider/Gopher has spend weeks telling me there is no way in hell Harbaugh would come back to college. He has now spent the morning pontificating on the merits of Jerry Kill.
Bear/Badger fan said and I'm quoting here "Well I haven't seen it on ESPN so I don't think it will happen."

I'll be honest - I plan to say nothing to anyone here who, in the last few weeks, suggested many things, many coaches, and asked why we spent so much time pursuing this when there were names on the market right now. The talk varied from "You'll never get him" to "I hear that Greg Schiano is out there" (that person was in earnest, so I might have hurt some feelings with my reply) to "Suck it up and just get Miles".

I shall say nothing for the time being. I want to be able to look forward to a future when the MSU and OSU people in the office aren't looking at me as if they feel sorry for me somehow.

Heard this one a lot in the last few years, "The UM job just isn't what it used to be." I was surprised to hear it again this morning in reference to Harbaugh making a mistake coming to coach UM. Doesn't a successful NFL coach accepting the job indicate what level it is you moron?
