Scattering ashes at Michigan

Submitted by That's Just Kramer on

Found this in an old magazine...

When old Bennie died in 1990, Ron Kramer scattered his ashes on all the athletic fields where he had starred as an outstanding athlete and won nine letters at Michigan in the middle 1920s.

"I told him I would do it," Kramer said. "A little on the football field, the baseball field and track, and a little around the rest of the campus. Bennie is everywhere at Michigan."

Have any of you done this or plan on doing it?

My father and I got on the field pre game and sprinkled part of my grandpa's ashes on the Michigan football field.  I hope mine will be scattered there someday as well!

Except I would then have to hear her nagging for eternity, I am sure I would put my liver ashes where my lung ashes are suppose to be and she would never let me forget it.

I'm not that sentimental when it comes to death, and these ash-scattering rituals always seemed a little self-important to me.  Just recycle yourself back in.  Having said that I always thought ancient sky burials were cool from a stylistic standpoint but I don't think there's too many places left you could do that these days.

Lo there do I see my coach; Lo there do I see my team mom, my cheerleaders and my marching band brothers; Lo there do I see the line of Michigan, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call me, they bid me take my place among them, in Schembechler Hall, where the Wolverine fan may live forever.

which is what, 63 years?  So I think I want to have my ashes spread over the Big House.  The time may be coming closer than I would like to think!!

I recruited for Bo for nearly 20 years and have seen many, many games.

Btw, my first Michigan hero was Ron Kramer.  Got to meet him several times.  A great guy!!

I don't care where or in what.  Since I'm probably going to burn in Hell anyway I'd rather not start the process while still on earth.

Also, enough of my countrymen went up chimneys in WWII.

All my family and friends know that my ashes are to be spread in 3 different areas, the diag, the arb and they have to get me on the field at Michgian stadium.  I've had this planned for 20 years now....
