SB Wins 2 at Boca

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

(EDIT) I wrote the post yesterday but I had Wi-Fi issues at work.  I thought it went through until I checked the board this morning.

The #5 ranked SB Team #37 won the first two games today in the FAU Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla.  We won both games rather easily by defeating Pitt 9-0 and Kent State 7-1.  The weather was 80F and sunny.

In the first game versus Kent State, we had 7 runs off 11 hits.  The offense was led by Silo who went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs.  Freshman Abby Ramirez went 2 for 3 with a run scored.  Colie went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.  Caitlin went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Coach Hutch put Haylie in the circle.  She allowed 1 run off 2 hits.  She tallied 4 Ks with 3 BBs.  She pitched all 7 innings and even batted for herself going 0-2 with an RBI.

In the second game against Pitt, 9 offensive players garnered hits for 14 team hits in the Mercy-Rule win.  This on-slaught was led by Colie who went 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.  Freshmen Abby Ramirez went 3 for 3 with a run scored.

Coach Hutch gave the ball to Megan who pitched very well.  She allowed only 3 hits with 4 Ks and 1 BB.

Overall a very good start to the weekend by our wonderful ladies in Blue.  We finish the tourney against #6 Kentucky, Kent State again and FAU.

She's also taking one for the team at the plate!  Two hit-by-pitches for her - I think UK is getting a little frustrated & trying to get in her head a little bit.  It's great to see her out there in a pressure spot against elite competition again after her injury, etc. last year.  Hope she can slam the door on them!

Wagner slams the door in Kentucky's face!  A 2-hit shut-out against the #5/#6 team in the nation!  Romero goes 2-for-3 with a walk to record yet another multi-hit game, and Lawrence continues to provide the extra punch in the offense with a 2-RBI game.  This is exactly the sort of high-quality win we need to get in the non-conf schedule.  Great work by the team!
