SB takes one on the chin vs #9 Oregon

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The SB team had a bad day today against #9 Oregon.  Oregon mercied us 13-4 in 6 innings.  This is the first mercy-rule loss for us since May, 2007 in the Super Regional against Baylor.

Oregon had 18 hits and every starter gathered at least one hit. We could only muster 4 hits off Star Oregon Pitcher Jessica Moore.  Sara took the loss as she gave up 6 runs (4 ER) in 3.2 innings.  Stephanie and Alice each got into the game.

We committed 4 errors which is very unlike them.  We have Freshmen playing in the middle infield so we must give them a "free pass" as they learn to play at the highest level.

Overall, this weeked was a push.  We defeated top 10 Texas A & M but lost to LSU and Oregon.  These losses were to great teams so we have to consider them "good loses" (if there is such a thing).

Now I am off to Crisler to watch the boys crush lil bro and my prediction is 72-65.  Izzo gets T'ed up when his face turns red.

Michigan doesn't have many losing records against conferences, but I think their 47-52-1 record against the Pac-12 is one the most respectable of all teams given that leagues dominance of the sport.

Also, to not be run-ruled since May 2007 speaks volumes about the program. They've played some damn good teams since then and have been in almost all of the games.

To see UCLA play last night, and they are so ridiculously good, and they've got swagger. Now this was against a solid team, but a MUCH smaller program (University of San Diego). I've also followed M Softball since...forever. But I don't get to see them play too much, due to my being on the west coast. The biggest difference from some of the Pac10 schools that i see is that swagger/confidence that they are THE team. UCLA has that. Arizona has that. I hope we can get that same confidence. Regardless, the program is one we can all be so proud of. These early games will allow them to find their personality as a team, and hopefully build that momentum as the season progresses. I'm super excited to get to see them play out in So Cal in two weeks. More great competition!

No offense, but I wonder if you might include last names for those of us who are interested, but not familiar enough with the team to be on a first name basis? Thanks.
