SB splits today

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The Softball team split today winning 3-1 against Illinois State in the first game.  They lost in the second game 1-0 against UMass.  The team is in Clearwater this weekend.

Haylie Wagner got the win in the first game.  She gave up 1 ER on 4 hits, she struck out 8 and walked only 2.  Chiddy was the big bat today hitting a 3 run Bomb in 3 AB.  Colie went 2 for 3 and scored on Chiddys dinger.

In the second game against UMass, we could not get the bats going.  We could only muster 2 untimely hits.  Sara Driesenga took the loss.  She pitched very well though.  She gave up 1 ER on 2 hits with 2 Ks and 2BB.  Lauren Sweet was a sweet-spot in the lineup with a double.

UMass is a good team.  If everyone remembers, we had a couple of close games with them last year.  This year UMass is 4-3 so maybe they are down a little.

Overall not too disappointing, although I am sure Coach is kicking some @ss.  In close games, anything can happen.  This game was going down to the wire and the lucky team was going to win this one.....and they did.  Sometimes in softball, the best team doesnt always win.  Congrats to UMass for hanging around and getting it done.  They deserved the win today.  This will be a learning curve for us with out a doubt.

We play again tomorrow at 3:30 and 6pm.

Go Blue! I feel bad no one has commented on this thread yet, you clearly care about the softball team and took the time to write out the information so good for you and keep up the good work.

Many people follow softball since the NC year.  Most do not comment because they do not understand the game well and risk looking unintelligent.  They lurk but dont post.  I know most of the people on the Blog follow softball but not as much as the men's sports.

It is not a slam to me or the team that no one comments.  I am just happy that I get the opportunity to write about the sport that I love and the best Team in the World.

I follow UM-D Softball just as close because some of my former players are on that team.  This weekend they are playing in Orlando.  They have 14 games in 7 days.  I will update the Blog on their progress too; although, I know most people dont really care about UM-D sports.
