SB Open Thread vs OSU

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The SB Team is playing the rubber game in Columbus this afternoon.  It is being broadcast on the Buckeye Television Network.

We scored in the Top of the 1st and lead 2-0.  Coach Hutch is making some significant changes to the lineup.  She has Romo leading off, which is actually a good move to see how OSU will pitch to her now.  In the first inning, they walked her on 4 straight pitches.  Then Romo gets driven in.

Coach is taking advantage of Romo's OB%.  Let's see how it pans out.  I doubt this lineup will be permanent, but it could work in some cases.

Megan is in the circle today.

Why aren't you changing 'Romo?' Please use her full title, Queen Romo I: Lady of the Seven Inningdoms, Sovereign of All Free Softballers, Conqueror of the Big Ten Conference, Slayer of the Spartans of the North, Tree Nuts of the South, Lions of the East, and Devils of the West.

Anything else is disrespectful and creepy.

Thanks.

Not smart enough to here our complaints about the creepy name issue. What makes you think he would listen to this? It was brought up numerous times in the recap thread yesterday.

Unlike the creepy name thing there is absolutely no argument on the wrong usage of the term "rubber game"

but I always cut MGoSoftball (and others who post informative stuff that nobody else posts) slack. I can look up names, etc. I can see that they already won 2, and this is the 3rd of a 3 game series. I like that he posts this stuff. I also know snark happens regardless of how good someone's intentions are. The softball posts are some of my favorites, and I appreciate any information that is posted here--I check this blog more than anywhere else for Michigan stuff, so if it is posted here, I'm not likely to miss it, so the value is better than no post at all.

Amanda Vargas. 3-run shot.

12-0 Michigan. In the 2nd inning.

Every day they're getting better. Literally. They won 13-1 in a full 7 innings on Friday, yesterday they potatoed OSU 13-1 for a run rule win in 5 and now they have 12 on the board in the T2.

Though the results this weekend have been somewhat predictable (thankfully), one very bright spot is freshman Aidan Falk.

She's had the chance to start due to Sweet's injury and has stepped her game up big time. She's a high school legend in New York, but early reports were that she was having some trouble adjusting to the college game. Now she is beginning to show the talent many of us hoped she would bring, and I can't wait to see how good she can become.

Next year will also be amazing. Sobczak, Peters, and Canfield are all good enough to start immediately, IMO.

The only regular field player leaving is Sweet, so it's going to be an absolutely stacked roster. And with Senior Romo, that team could be near unstoppable.

and updates. As a former softball player, and a mom who actually has empathy for kids who get slottered in sports, I was asking myself if there is ever a time I should ever start feeling bad for the Buckeyes. After a long 2 seconds, I just laughed.

gets most of the accolades.  However, our pitching is doing great too.  We will give up less than 10 hits total in 3 games vs OSU.  That is some fine pitching to say the least.

T-Swear with a 2-run homer. Michigan up 18-0 in the 3rd inning. Have chased two OSU pitchers.

keep an eye on is the offensive efficiency.  We typically will score more runs than we have hits.  This is critical because we will push the runners who reached base on walks.  This will keep opposing pitches and coaches thinking; "should I walk them or try to pitch to them?"

The freshmen are killing it this weekend!

And by it, I mean the happiness of everyone in the Columbus area.

Edit: I think that's five home runs today by freshman: Two each for Vargas and Swearingen, one for Falk.

Michigan wins 20-0 in 5 innings.

Michigan outscored OSU by a combined score of 46-2 this weekend.

Worth noting that Kent State went 5-0 this weekend, including a victory over Saint Francis, who were themselves on a ten game winning streak (including two wins at Maryland).

That loss won't look as bad for Michigan as we thought it would initially, which is good. However, there is a good chance we will see KSU at the Ann Arbor regional (assuming there is one), which is not so good. They are pretty damn good and can stay in the game against anyone if their ace pitcher is on.
