SB crushes Mizzou; LBSU next

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on

Softball plays another ranked team today, this time the Missouri Tigers.  The bats are heating up early, as a 2-RBI single from Ramirez and a 3-run ROM-BOMB in top of the 2nd have Michigan up 5-0.  Mizzou getting some stuff started in the bottom of the inning, though - we'll see where it goes from here!

[UPDATE: Michigan walloped Mizzou, 13-0 in 5 innings.  Keep it right here for the next game against Long Beach State, coming up soon!]

2-run RBI for Susalla to make it 8-0. Michigan chases the Missouri pitcher and then she throws an illegal pitch to walk with the bases loaded to make it 9-0.

Aw, I was hoping Romero would extend her grand slam record. :)  7-run outburtst finally comes to an end, and Mizzou comes up to bat facing a monumental deficit.  They'll be looking to plate 5 in the next couple innings just to keep the game alive.

total annihilation ..it could easily be 16-0 right now..weve already played ALOT of players and Betsa looks much better today...still some leadoff walks but the margin is so big they dont amunt to anything...Mizzou is a VERY good team and to see us just routing this is Great...We are the REAL DEAL....Ramirez having a 3 for 3 day so far...it all looks good...Richardson on her first at bat as a pinch hitter just went yard..I dnt even know who she is and she just blasted a HR.....wow

Nice, thanks for the added insight.  I agree, the fact that we are firebombing Mizzou here is encouraging.  I don't know what they lost to graduation, but looking at their 2015 schedule, they hung tough in a brutal SEC conference.  They lost a lot of series against the top teams, but didn't get swept ever, not even against Florida, until they got bounced in the super-regionals by UCLA.  They're no joke, but we're making them look like one.

We're getting in youngsters against a top-20 SEC team because we're beating them so badly.

Amazing.

Ballgame!  Michigan just routed a top-20 SEC team so badly that we threw in a string of subs in the 5th inning, and they were able to extend the lead for us and end the game early.  Another great line on the tournament resume right there.  Up next, a re-match with Long Beach State, a game mid-major squad.

A mishandled ball by the LBSU pitcher with bases loaded and then an intentional walk of Romero with bases loaded makes it 3-0 Michigan.

Michigan scores Ramirez on a sac fly from Blanco.

LBSU then illegal pitches on a 3-1 count and that loads the bases for Aidan Falk......who homered in this same inning.

It is now 11-0. Romero nearly hit a grand slam. Went off the wall and it cleared the bases.

Double play ends it!  A great day for Michigan, outscoring the opposition 24-0 over 12 innings.  The 24 are excellent and a lot of fun, but the real win is the goose egg.  After the slugfests we've been getting into of late, that's exactly what we needed.  Seeing Blanco go 7 scoreless with only 3 hits against a decent team is especially good.  Might be a first step towards more playing time for a player we really need to see step up.

I was glad to see Blanco get the start in the LBSU game.   Have been waiting to see how she pitches, and she did great today with the shutout.   Having a #3 pitcher that is reliable could be a big bonus going forward.

Still early, everyone. But let's hope for a long a fun ride that gives us the chance to book a trip to OKC this summer
