Base running may have been a little too aggressive. Have to be very selective with their pitcher.
1 - 0 UW with 1 out and runners on the corners.
C'mon ladies.
are looking pretty much alike. :(
and who is pitching that other game?
Despite all of the (coaching staffs internal plus box score) numbers saying that Megan was clearly superior, they started their "ace" (read that dripping with sarcasm and disdain) who promptly gave up five earned runs in three innings. MGB came in to a full count, let two go across the plate on that first out and then pitched a little over three perfect innings with 10K on 12BF, no hits, no walks after getting out of a bases loaded full count mess of an inning she inherited.
The sad thing is that I have no confidence the coaching staff will make the right call for the start this game, and could see them losing their chance at rings and an NCAA berth in the exact same fashion as they just lost this game.
Many coaches trust their gut. You should invent some advanced softball stats.
There is nothing I would like more than their head coach being told to GTFO; there is literally nothing I like about her program management skills and I'm not sure they have a chance to win this tournament with this pitcher in the circle. She's been between mediocre and bad in 3/4 of the games against this team, with one good start. Megan has no such problem in one complete game and two relief efforts.
Edit: They got something right, which was to play MGB at DP with her catcher in the catcher spot. Hopefully she gets in after about one out.
first pitch she gave up a home run. MGB in now.
Will be pitching in the NCAA Tournamnt this year. Truly awesome, and I'm really hoping they get put in Ann Arbor.
You better get there to watch.
And then tomorrow I will see if I can make it, which is why I'm definitely hoping for Ann Arbor. Final was 7-4, her final stat line: 7IP 3H 3R 2ER 1BB 8SO.
She called me and I could not hear a thing she said on the bus. They're all going nuts over her pitching, and I couldn't be happier for her.
Walked in a run and then gave up a grand slam. Down 6-0 in the first.
6-0 now after a pinch hit grand slam. Still bottom 1st.
Well, crap. Wagner is stinking today and it is currently 6-0 Wisconsin. In the bottom of the first.
Rally caps on.
The error was a killer. 5 runs unearned?
Wagner struck out that batter so the error did not hurt us. The walk issued after that batter walked in a run though.
I'm always trying to help out the pitcher.
No worries. Hopefully we mount a comeback. Sounds like the team can hit. Also if they can have a big inning then so can we.
Not the start I was hoping for. Michigan will need a big inning of their own to get back in this one.
It is currently 7-1 in the top of the fifth.
Now 7-3 in the top of the fifth. Michigan has runners on 2nd and 3rd. Two outs.
Top of the inning ends 7-3. Two more chances.
she's not a dude. That would have hurt like hell if she was.
is known as a great slap coach. Looks like it this inning.
F'ing Badgers.
Credit to the team for fighting on throughout the game. Just forget about this performance Haylie everybody had bad outings once in awhile.
Look what happened for us in NCAAM when we lost to Wisconsin in the BTT. You can do it.
Any idea what impact this might have in terms of our hosting Regional/SR games? Some made it seem like a foregone conclusion but IDK if that was assuming we won the B1G tourney.
I don't know about a super regional, though. I had heard one game in the tournament, but I don't know for sure and there isn't a big industry in softball bracketology.

Final: 9-3 bad girls.
Some of the teams in front of us and right behind us in the RPI have already lost this week including earlier in their conference tourneys..ie LSU, Alabama, Louisville..and #3 Oregon is on the verge of getting Swept this wknd. Root for Florida to beat Missouri tonight. Michigan still has a very good shot at hosting a Super Regional..fingers crossed!
First loss to wisconsin since 2002. I knew my worry about this game had some substance.
No big deal though. Michigan got what really matters in the B1G Championship for the 6th straight year. I'll take 20-2 over 2 wins to get a title.
A 6th Big Ten Chamionship, 20-2 record is fantastic, I will take that any day. It wasn't what we wanted today, but have to lose some to keep you humble. When you are expected to win and don't, everyone gets the blame, starting with the pitcher. Haylie is no where near where she was last year at this time, she started the year missing games, and not able to do what she did last year, but thank goodness we have Haylie and Sara for 2 more years. Michigan did not hit today either, as they are know to do, Nebraska is not Michigan friendly at all. Forget this game, and move on the Regionals next weekend. Everyone regroups and gets their "A" game on, which I know Michigan will do.
Hopefully the girls can start the same kind of run that the MBB team did after they lost to the Badgers in the B1G tourney...
not to be that guy, but you're not mgosoftball. Clearly this game was jinxed
