SB Bats Finally Heat Up vs Iowa; Emily Hepker fundraiser went well.

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The SB Team had some very cold bats today just like the weather.  Sometimes is snowed sometimes the sun shined through and warmed things up only to hide again.  But in the end,  the SB Team was victorious.

Today was also a fundraiser for AD employee Emily Hepker.  As I posted previously, Emily is in the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota battling cancer.  Former player and one of my all-time favorite people in the world, Brooke Ward, led the charge to help Emily.  Wolverines Trooper volunteered as well.  He braved the cold and was a real "trooper".  It is not easy for him in the costume but all went well.

Sierra Romero had the only M hit, a line-shot down the right field line and over the fense.  The ball barely reached 10 feet off the deck.  The ball appeared to be rising as it left the field.  That was in the 4th inning.  Iowa led 2-1 at that point.

We could not get anything going until the bottom of the sixth.  Bases were loaded when Sierra Lawrence singled to center scoring two.  Kelsey Susella, pinch hitting for Amy, singled up the middle that appeared from my vantage point to hit second base.  This drove in 2 more runs.  In the top of the 7th, Iowa scored 1 but could do no more.

Sara was the starting pitcher and pitched very well.  However, Coach saw something she did not like and gave Haylie the ball.  Haylie came in and pitched very well.  We were certainly the better team today although the "Get-Off-My-Lawn" guy sitting behind us didnt think so.  Im not sure he could even see the game.

We play Iowa tomorrow for a DH at Noon and 3pm.  The 3pm game is on BTN.  Please watch and look for Wolverines Trooper trying to help Emily.
