Saturday's ESPN's "College GameDay" show at the Crisler Center

An article in Freep states:

Michigan basketball fans can begin lining up at 5 a.m. Saturday for good spots for ESPN's "College GameDay" show at the Crisler Center.

Anyone here going to be there that early? I cant make the game, so I am out.

And students will lineup that early because the stupid athletic department has set the seating arrangements for the game based on how early you go to college gameday.  Apparently going to a ESPN TV show is more important than you know....attending basketball games during the season

The way it was explained to the Maize Rage (and it does make sense) was that the AD didn't just want people to skip Gameday and start lining up for the game super early.  And while the big games usually are based on season attendance(MSU the past two years, Kansas last year), every other game is first come first serve, so you aren't guranteed a bleacher seat in those cases.

The problem is that they are wasting an entire Saturday for students the week before mid-terms.  Some of us don't really want to wake up at 5am, be there until about noon, and then come back early for the game @ 9pm.  Not only do you have to go to bed early on Friday, but all Saturday morning's gone and then Saturday night.

I realize this is a HUGE game for Michigan and Gameday doesn't come very often (first visit ever), but I really feel that the students always get the short end of the stick in these situations.  The student system is currently set-up for a bad program with few people buying tickets...the problem is this team is good and a ton of people are buying tickets and probably more next year.  If you go to the games you receive virtually no benefit 90% of the time.  Students shouldn't have to show up over an hour early to multiple games a week, that just doesn't make sense.

By the way, to those that criticize the students for leaving early, if the other fans left early nobody would even notice because they just sit on their hands 90% of the time.  Seriously, a team will be down by 3 or 4 with a few minutes remaining at the rest of the arena is dead silent.  When the other fans make noise, then I will listen to the critics of the student section.

I guess I just felt like it comes with the territory of being a big game. We're just lucky it isn't this way for football like at many other schools. It also helps me I guess that my two biggest mid-terms are tomorrow (which is really why I shouldn't be here) and Friday so wasting a Satrudsay isn't a huge deal for me.

Also I definitely agree with you about the criticism towards the student at basketball. I personally think the Maize Rage has made about as big a turn around as the team has and is probably as good as any student section on camppus. We're not 100% there yet, but compared to a couple years ago where you could get free tickets as a student against Minnesota, we've come a long way.

Yes. They are handing out passes at Gameday to the first 500 students that get there. These students will then get priority towards getting into the game later that night(although you have to get to Crisler by 5 to get this priority). So if you want bleacher seats, I'd advise waking up early and gettting to Crisler as close to 5 as possible.

Pretty much. The only thing is that there are only 400 bleacher seats so you need to be in the top 400. Also they aren't wristbands for the bleacher, but rather just an acknowledgement that you were one of the first 500 people there and saves your spot in line for later. You also have to be back at Crisler by 5 in order to keep your spot in line. Otherwise you have to line-up with the rest of general admission and your chances of getting in the lower bowl are probably slim.  Lastly, make sure to bring your ticket to the game to Gameday, otherwise you'll be able to get into Gameday, but you won't get a wristband to hold your spot down.

Wait so is that bleachers for Gameday or for the game itself?  I am sorry, I am kind of confused and going to need some step by step instructions.

This might be arrogant, and if it is, it is, but we're Michigan

If you want bleacher seats you have to:

a) Be one of the first 400 people at Gameday.  If you are one of the first 400 and bring your ticket to the game you will get a wristband to hold your spot in line for the game. Hypothetically you could get the wirstband and leave, but at that point why would you want to miss Gameday.

b)Come back to Crisler by 5 pm. From what I understand, they are closing off the gate at the top of the stairs going to Crisler at 5. If you have one of those wristbands, you can wait on that plaza right in front of Crisler from 5 till they open the gates at 745/8. If you don't make it back by 5, you won't get bleacher seats.

If you want to go to gameday, you have to:

a)Just come by Crisler beforehand.  There are no special things you have to do to go to Gameday as its free to the public.

Does anyone else find it bizarre that Gameday is going to be there for a M bball game?  From where the bball program has been to now has been quite a turnaround.  I know Gameday probably doesn't mean as much in bball, but it's still a different feeling for M bball to be relevant again.

Even down here in Iowa I can 'feel' the turnaround that is taking place in regards  to Men's basketball at Michigan.  I know it hasn't been overnight by any means, Manny Harris made the tournament (before another below average season for Michigan), but this year it seems the "feeling" you describe is climaxing.  We're learning it wasn't just a few fluke years of good (not great) basketball and making the NCAA tournament; this year I think Michigan fans are getting comfortable saying and feeling that the basketball program is in fact "back".

Maize Rage has talked about tailgating as early as 2 am, we'll see how that holds up after Friday night. I'm planning on waking up around 4, same time I started the OSU football tailgate.

I thought about getting tickets, but its looking like getting a bleacher seat would be way too much work. I'll just sleep in, catch gameday on TV, and enjoy my day before I crack a beer and watch the game on tv. I went to the football gameday at 6am and didn't really have that great of a time. Its cool to be able to say that I was at college gameday, but even if football gameday came back I probably wouldn't go again.
