Saturday night drinking thread

Submitted by Gobgoblue on

What is everyone having to enjoy this evening?  I'm still rolling through my Molson Canadians.

What are you watching?

BIG question:  Kraft Mac and Cheese or Velveeta?

Kraft guy, here.

I'm sitting in my hotel room in Vermont waiting for my cousin to come pick me up.  So I don't know what I'll be drinking and I don't know where, but I'll be enjoying it regardless.

Since Vermont and all, it might just end up being a Magic Hat.  I'll be disappointed if that shit's not on tap everywhere.

I spent a long weekend at a B'n'B in Vermont a couple summers back. It was amazing. That trip left me with a lasting love of Vermont that I feel for very few places. It's beautiful country, in which the only thing that doesn't come in maple flavor is cheese.

New Hampshire, on the other hand, can go fuck itself.

Pouilly Fumé and Beaujolais with grilled lamb chops. It's finally wam enough to be outdoors in the evening in Colorado high country!

Just finished a Beam and Coke Zero, watching Futurama. Probably about to watch John Dies At The End and drink another Beam and Coke Zero.

And I'd go with Annie's mac'n'cheese, personally.

Update: I went with Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior, instead.

Update 2: I've been watching this movie for almost a full 20 minutes, and no one has gotten kicked yet! Face, chest, even ass, doesn't matter. Someone better get kicked soon.

Update 3: Nevermind, the very next scene was the main character following someone to some kind of underground fighting club. I think someone's about to get kicked real good!

Update 4: Ting totally just knocked Ali out with a single kick. This movie kind of just makes me want to watch Bloodsport.

Update 5: Bloodsport isn't available on Netlix Instant; thankfully Netflix automatically recommends a selection of other "Van Damme in secret international fighting tournament" movies that are available.

Update 6: Ting just did a crazy flying knee-kick to some guy's face, propelling them both through a second story window! This movie is all knees and elbows to heads.

I haven't seen any of the NBA playoffs, but I have gathered that the Bulls seem to be utilizing a very Probertian style of play.

For the past week, I've had to work in midtown Manhattan, and have had to use the Penn Station subway station to get home (it's located below Madison Square Garden). Between the Knicks and the Rangers, I have had to fight through some unpleasant crowds to get home, and consequently have developed a healthy hatred for most New York sports fans.

Update 7: Ting just got beat up by some guy at some Muay Thai tournament. All I could think about was how cool that scene in Kickboxer is, when the guy dips his hands in hot glue and broken glass. I had no idea that I liked Van Damme this much.

Drinking update: I have switched from Beam and Coke Zero to Narragansett beer.

Update 8: After kicking someone in the face with (literally) flaming legs, Ting did another flying knee-kick right into some dudes head, knocking him off his motorcycle. Side note, Thailand looks really sweaty.

Update 9: Two guys riding one motorcycle looks really silly.

Update 10: Ting, in stoic manly fashion, just used his forearms to stop a man from cutting off his head with one of those big old-timey, two-person saws they used to use to cut down trees. Again, it just reminded me of that Van Damme scene when he kicks the tree down with his shins. I think that was in Kickboxer. (As I was typing this, Ting appeared to severe a man's leg using his groin.)

Update 11: Ting's doughy screw-up of a partner just triumphantly knocked an old man out of  a wheelchair with a 2x4. Followed by Ting double knee dropping a guy through the floor.

Update 12: Last comment about Ong Bak. Apparently, Steven Seagal was so impressed by the movie, that he wanted his company to distribute it stateside. Of course, he wanted to film extra scenes featuring himself as the man who teaches Ting martial arts to include in the American release. For better or worse, that plan did not appear to pan out.

Watching the Tigers game. Drinking some Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and some Bell's Oberon.

Kraft Mac and Cheese for me. Especially if it's in the little microwavable cups.

If wife permits then choose Velveta, kraft is less cheesy and delicious. My wife goes kraft beacause its like healthier or somethin... The lesser of two evils i suppose

Sipping some bourbon and relaxing after finally getting our 10 week old down for bed. Our 2 and a half year old is fighting sleep as well.
I vote homemade Mac n cheese. There really is no comparison. If I had to choose one I'd say velveeta. If I'm backpacking I'd go with easy Mac,

I'm heading to Tawas Bay for Memorial Day weekend. Staying at the Tawas Bay Beach Resort. Other than Bikinis, anything we "have" to do while there? I'm deathly allergic to shellfish and we both like to drink.

Well, after that deflating ending-inning double play, I decided to make a mint julep with the leftover fresh mint from last weekend. Turn it up!

Watching some NBA and NHL playoffs (so close NYI!) while drinking some ice cold water. And for my first time watching the NBA in a loooooong time, I can say that Trey Burke will fit in just fine in this league. Yeah he'll need to work on his defensive effort (especially if he is in the playoffs), but everything else about his game should translate into the NBA just fine.

Pride 2010 merlot. A little young, I think, but it's the wife's favorite, and this being Mother's Day weekend...

Annie's Mac & cheese for me- it's the kids' favorite.

It's the best "cheap" beer at the class six. Just revamped my budget and realized killing bottle upon bottle of Rouge wasn't in it.
