It's a good thing I have the BTN. Oh wait.
landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
It's a good thing I have the BTN. Oh wait.
I might drop in on OSU v Cal ... but my interest level is somewhat low.
For me, UM-UMass is *the* game, followed by MSU-ND, then Florida-Tennessee. A few weeks ago I had my sights set on Alabama-Arkansas, but some of the shine is off that game.
Re: UM-UMass ... I want me some Bellomy in 2nd half.
Alabama AND Arkansas can both lose today? That would be great.
Soo...how many games does the B1G lose this week?
I would set the over/under at 2.5.
I don't see any sure losses, but:
Sparty has a challenging game.
Penn State is reeling.
Northwestern may have trouble with BC.
Minnesota and Indiana face low tier foes... but they are still Minnesota and Indiana.
In conclusion, aside from Sparty, the B1G SHOULD win every other game...
I so wish PSU was stuck with Air Force this week instead of Navy. Navy's defense is horrific, and their triple option is not as fearsome as it has once been (I still chose Navy in my Pick em, because seriously, fuck Penn State).
I think AF would probably drub PSU by two or three scores.
My gut instinct, despite what happened last week, is that the B1G could go undefeated this week. MSU should beat ND and NW should beat BC. If the Big Ten loses a game not one of those two (other than IU or Minnesota) it will be a major upset.
The Big Ten went 10-2 the first week, and 6-6 the second week. Fairly significant drop, to be sure.
That being noted, I would take a tentative over on the 2.5 mentioned. The only games where I think there is a significant chance that the Big Ten might lose are MSU / ND, which will be a tough game for both teams, and Northwestern / Boston College, because it always seems like Northwestern is one of those rare teams that could win or lose on a given day simply because they are what they are. I am not sure what to make of Penn State - I have a feeling that even Navy might give them problems despite being a very budget version of Air Force.
I would guess that the conference goes 9-3 or 10-2 this week.
Minnesota/WMU might be the overlooked game of the day. The Broncos have a good offense. That one should be a 41-35 type of game. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Broncos take that one.
I see the bigten winning all early games at least. If they end up losing one of these we go from being pathetic to a travestyt
I'm playing Sherpa at a Talbots outlet sale (everything 19.99 and less, 15% off total purchase!!!! OMG!!). No early games for me today :(
Not exactly the greatest slate of games today.
When VT-Pitt is your best game, you're reeling.
(Is Wake halfway decent anymore? Can they at least hang with FSU awhile? Remember when their coach had his name thrown out there for the Michigan job?)
was simply the head of John Stamos from his Uncle Jesse years peering over the shoulder of Herbstreit.
Dozens of people just watched the Purdue band do their pre-game show, but many of the fans appear to be in the line to get painted jet black, so perhaps they'll be in their seats soon.
Wow, I feel like a moron. Woke up and was getting myself psyched for a 11:00 CST start and then I come to find out the game doesn't start until 2:30! Why are we playing such a shitty opponent in that time slot??
I am also annoyed, but then again I have to leave for the airport at 5.
I would like to nominate "Vincenzo D'Amato" as the PK Name Of The Week. It was fun to hear Spielman take great care in pronouncing that name for some reason.
A relative perhaps? Hmmm.
Going to settle for watching Cal and Ohio for now.
I like neither, but c'mon, Cal is obviously less evil. However, the fan base annoys me with their delusions of grandeur.
Missing Michigan's game to go drink fine beer on a battleship that's floating on the SF Bay.
come on Cal beat ohio
Wow....Cal is bad. This might be the end of Tedford. With Kiffin recruiting like a machine and Stanford picking up guys as well Cal is left out to dry.
That's true, but I do admire Zach Maynard for doing the honorable thing and sacking himself because his OL cannot give him more than a few seconds to read the field, and apparently, they don't speak "blitz" either.
Cal has been recruiting well.
With Lupoi, but 2012 cratered post-Lupoi and 2013 has almost nothing. If Tedford doesn't turn it around this year the entire program enters lame-duck status.
California is a country-sized state. You should be able to play third fiddle there and still pick up some talent.
Obviously UCLA has struggled in recent years, but they have a new coach and are obviously recruiting California as well.
To consider Stanford a part of a "state." For Stanford's purposes, "in-state recruiting" is basically "academic kids." Sometimes they're in California (which, great!) and sometimes they're around. So Stanford sometimes fights USC, Cal, UCLA, but they're really fishing in different pools.
Stanford vs. Notre Dame is probably the most common recruiting battle.
Driving on auburn right now. Screw the sec!
Just heard an interesting stat- if ULM beats Auburn (14-14 at half) they will be 2-0 in the SEC West this year.
The SEC is soooooo awesome.
Is it just me, or is OSU hitting late on just about every play at the sidelines?
Picked Wake Forest to upset FSU today. It's a bit of a long shot, but I like WFs better coaching over FSUs better recruiting. It's weird to see a few thousand empty seats at FSU. Don't their fans know they're ranked #5?
EDIT: well it looks like today isn't going to be that day when FSU lays its annual giant turd. I thought at home versus WF would be the perfect time for them to go all supercat on everybody.
Looks like there are around 10,000 fans missing at Florida State. Is it because of their opponent or do their students not get to the game on time either?
I really don't think any students get to games on time. At least not snacky-cake games which I assume is how they think of Wake even if it is in conference. Because beer, man, 20-year-olds love that shit.
You do know that WF beat them last year, right? So, throw the "opponent" theory out the window.
ULM up 7-0 on Auburn.
Im really hoping Cal can give them a game. Just watched Miller go 55 yards for a score. That guy really needs to work on ball security. he carries the ball like it's a handbag.
BTW did anyone hear Jerry Dinardo say Braxton Miller is a better passer than Denard Ronbinson? I mean, neither is going to be confused for Peyton manning, but this is just further evidence that Dinardo is a raging moron
every network has idiots that make stupid useless comments....Dinardo, Palmer, Holtz, Rob Smith.
It's the fact that all these guys were waiting for years to take pot shots at everything michigan and when the winning keeps going they will shut up.
I cant imagine a noon start will be a good thing for Florida kids on saturday morning....I'd bet that it will up by at least halftime.
Cal is putting some decent drives together. But they aren't scoring.
Pitt up 14-0 over Va Tech. Didn't see that coming
What's up with FSU's fans? A TON of empty seats. Is that normal?
EDIT:Seems like that's not unusual. How are they getting recruits? What shitty fans.
I always wondered that about FSU as well as Miami, USC, and UCLA. It's not at all uncommon to see their stadiums below capacity during regular season games. Spoiled fans? Bandwagon fans? Bad fans?...probably just bad bandwagon fans
EDIT: Holy crap just saw the stadium pan-out view. There's probably 5,000-10,000 empty seats for a home game for their #5 seminoles. Come on
The Ohio defense helped Cal quite a bit and sort of made this look easy by tackling everyone except the guy with the ball on one play and watching short passes zip by their heads to open Cal receivers. 7-6 Golden Bears.
Also, who is this guy and what did he do with the real Tino Sunseri?
Pitt looking world beating today.
Heck...this ULM/Auburn game might be the funnest to watch for the noon games.
EDIT: Also the Auburn DC has a sweet 70's porn stache working today.
EDIT: Also the Auburn DC has a sweet 70's porn stache working today.
I don't think I have ever seen a coach whose physical appearance was so in line with the team he coaches. Dude just LOOKS like he should be the DC for a team like Auburn.
Ok, it's early, and it's only Eastern, and even last year Purdue demolished Minn...but does Purdue actually look good? I think so....
Purdues D is good enough to help them win at least 8 games in this sorry big ten this season. If they cant get to 8 then Hope needs to be gone.
Golson and Gillette are terrible passers. I want to see how Purdue defends a team that can pass and run with equal effectiveness.
This just in: Tarbush sucks.
Who is a balanced good team in the big ten though? All the teams have flaws and Purdue is good enough on D to win some of those games. Heck we cant run the ball with a RB now, Wiscy is a shell and I dont think anyone is fooled by Braxton Miller quite yet.
You have to respect his arm and legs. I do think UM will get Toussaint going eventually.
The refs in this Ohio game are terrible.
I'm really hoping Chizik sets the record for NC to fired. I really don't think he's a good coach at all. And I can't believe they got away with the whole Newton thing.
WTF is going on in this Pitt.-Va. Tech game?!? Late start to the day and to football watching. I've been watching the other games for the last half hour and flip over to see this game on, and now it is now about to be 21-0 Pitt (who has looked God awful thus far in the season).
Pitt is gonna win the Big East! JUST YOU WATCH!!! It wouldn't be the Big East if it didn't happen!
down 21-0 with 13:03 left in the second.
DT Thad Randle dinged up for Nebraska. Whole stadium just held its breath.
and devin smith (NTDS) looks.dangerous
Against Cal...the 68th best Defense.
No he hasn't. He's just now has an offense that's designed well and that he can successfully run.
He's improved from last year, regardless of who they are playing
Braxton Miller is basically shredding the Cal defense in the air and on the ground at this point - 124 yards passing, 66 yards rushing so far in the game.
RE: Pitt-Virginia Tech. - did Tony Dorsett still have some eligibility left? Is that it?
Eastern has had good success on the edges.
That sounds so similar...
The Goofers are in trouble.
When is OSU going to play a decent team? I want to see how they look against a team with a pulse.
MSU I would say.
Two personal fouls on the same play in different places. I'm not sure if I have ever seen that before.
Ohio showing no discipline at all.
Ohio playing like a bunch of goons. On one play they just had a terrible facemask and a late hit on the quarterback, with two other personal fouls on the same drive. Looks like Urban Meyer's family values haven't been able to correct the thuggery of Columbus.
On this latest Cal drive, what looks like a clean TD run gets called back for offensive holding, and on the next play, Cal makes a first down plus half the distance to the goal on a facemask call on Ohio (roughing the passer, also called, was declined).
Cal gets another holding call on them at the 12 now, so we might very well get back to where all this began in another play or two.
...and unnecessary roughness (which was arguably incidental contact) against Cal creates a long field goal, which is no good, and then more holding on Cal...wow, this is sh*t officiating...can we have a play where there isn't a torrent of yellow flags at the end of it?
More mystery calls for the Buckeyes. Cal player gets hit with a personal foul when it was a mutual hit, the Ohio player just got the worst of it. Home field advantage.
As much as I hate Ohio and always want to blame them for everything...to me it looked like the Buckeye player saw the Cal guy coming at the last second and lowered his shoulder instinctually so as not to get blown up.
Wow, the refs aren't calling OSU on anything. Even homer Spielman admits there are too many bogus calls going against Cal.
All calls go against Cal except the especially egregious ones...I rarely complain about officials, but this is bad and greatly impacting the game.
Utter failure on that last Cal drive; by everyone on the field! Terrible holding call by the referees, incompetence by Cal and Ohio being dirty dirty.
Remind Brandon not to schedule UL-M. Tied up with Auburn after upsetting the Razorbacks last week.
It's pretty interesting when the commentators are saying the refs are suspicious (nice try, OSU)
So awesome. I can't stand Auburn
14-7 ULM pending the XP
SEC network and espn3 or 360 or whatever it's called now
but I have it on ESPN3. Might be a regional showing on like ESPN2/ESPNU
Where's the obligatory "espn is the sec network" comment?
The "sec network" is the CW.
Is black suit/white shirt/black tie the look for Bachelor contestants now or did Jesse have a funeral this morning?
The never ending national championship talk about Florida State is driving me crazy. They haven't beat a top ten team in 12 years, they play just 2 teams this year that had winning records last year and one of their 2 tough opponents this year is currently getting killed by 0-2 Pitt.
Respect and hype should be earned. Not because you have the 90th ranked strength of schedule.
Trick play scores a TD for Auburn. Die Tiger scum.
Best block ever, in the VT/Pitt game during that punt? I think so!
I've seen more bad spots so far this year than all of last year combined. I don't think the Cal receiver had enough for the first down, but even so, the ref sold him short by at least a full yard.
Yikes. I just saw a halftime highlight from Miami/Bethune Cookman. There's got to be 900 fans in that stadium. And most of them are the marching band.
Dudes a beast!
What a run by the RB for Cal. Wow.
Sick sick touchdown run from the Cal RB
Those watching the Ohio Cal game just witnessed the best highlight of the weekend.
That was a great run by the Cal RB. OSU had some poor tackling, but that was video game-worthy.
Love silence in the shoe
Brendan Bigelow makes an 81-yard TD run, playing pinball with a few defenders and then accelerating to about Warp 4 once clear of the secondary. Nice.
Reports on ESPN2 said that Bo Pelini left the game at half time in an ambulance. No diagnosis.
Also Martinez fumbles x2 and lets Arkansas state back in the game.
being taken from the game via ambulance. Per everyone on Twitter. Pray that it's nothing serious.
Supposedly he has a bad flu. Dehydration, maybe?
Braxton reminds me of Denard last year...he see's the guy he wants to hit but he seems to throw at them instead of throwing them open. Seeing a lot of Buckeyes having to spin their hips to make what should be easy catches
Totally just messed up a punt and let Ark. State recover the ball (they were the kicking team).
Has not looked sharp passing the ball.
Would it kill these guys to call a penalty on Ohio?
Yes...That has to be it because it's a bit ridiculous, especially when the violation is occuring right in front of the zebra-SOB.
I have seen them give up big plays in all three games.
Find a BW3. Cheaper than a shrink and less messy than killing yourself.
Must have been a troll on the app. Sorry for any confusion.
First, now that Braxton Miller is completing some passes down field he is gonna be hard to defend, especially since he's a sick runner and the size of a linebacker. He is gonna give us fits for two more years after this...ugh
Second, I was just looking through MSU's depth chart and I think they are actually gonna be better next year. Their junior class is really good and have a ton of guys coming back. On offense they only lose two offensive lineman, but return Maxwell, Bell, Sims, and all recievers. On defense they only lose their NT, Norman, and Adams. They return both DEs, DT, Bullough, Allen, Denard, Lewis, and Jones....disappointing they are gonna give us trouble for another year still. I'm hopeful guys like Bell, Bullough, and Gholston go early, but I doubt it.
Who knows how good Maxwell will be.
MSU is going to be a solid program for years. I think you have to assume that it will remain that way for the foreseeable future.
I get the feeling they are gonna have a dropoff once the current class of juniors graduates/goes pro.
toi being a top 5 Big Ten team. MSU has always had the resources and yes, tradition, to be better then what they were. They certainly have more potential than Wisky and Iowa. MSU is not going away. Defense is the rock upon which solid programs are built.
Gholston will kill it at the combine this year and leave early, get drafted top 20, then flop just like his cousin as he continues to play high and ineffective...
One can only hope. It would be nice to get rid of Bullough & Bell too, but I don't see them as the type of guys who will go early, even though I think both will be more effective pros than Gholston.
Maynard needs to go Cutler on his tackles...they are getting smoked.
Pitt up 28-10 on Va. Tech! BEAMER BALL!
On a 70+ yard TD after a missed tackle.
...by OSU DB Bryant.
He just destroyed that poor guys knee.
I'll be surprised if he ever plays football again. That thing bent backwards.
Went straight for the Cal WR's knees with his helmet - knew it was bad the second I saw the tackle.
Dirty F-ing hit.
...he's Aaron Rodgers compared to Miller. What a duck.
The FG was no good, but as Christian Bryant is apparently just going to employ murdering knees as a defensive strategy, it is a relief to all to have him not on the field for a bit.
THIS is the OSU offense I remember and expected to see this year. Just ugly execution.
It looks like Cal mistakes are what's keeping OSU in the lead. Miller doesn't look good at all, and Maynard's having a pretty good day so far.
Watching Cal's corners repeatedly come up and make tackles on outside runs make me very nervous for our game against Ohio. If they aren't there making plays, OHio's ball carriers aren't getting touched or at least 6 yards.
OSU is looking pretty damn bad. They should be losing.
Maybe you do need to try at OSU.
Christian Bryant tackling people out of bounds after the 1st down and then trying to talk shit
Cal has a pretty good defense and it's showing against this Ohio team. I know the Ohio offense isn'texactly lighting it up but part of that is the caiber of Cal's defense. As the above noted, not all teams are going to succeed at stopping them like this and when teams don't have the outside players Cal does, it won't be/look this easy...
This is a darn big review for Cal.
Spielman sounds so reluctant whenever complimenting Cal or conceding that they've made a good play. Homer
Disagree. He's been pretty good this game. He even made mention that the calls have all gone Ohio's way.
I rather listen to Speilman be a homer on TV then listening to these two idiots on the radio down here in Columbus. I swear they sound like they are drunk
Wow Cal is getting screwed
seriously, buck fans with the body paint #gobucks....how fucking stupid.
time to be impressive!
I swear 3 outta every 5 snaps is rolled back to Maynard; bad snaps.
Bucks in trouble.
Now watch Braxton juke the entire Cal D for about 80 yards.
Starting in Columbus.
I'm watching the ESPN GameCast; on the Twitter stream linked to the GameCast, someone called "@bucksinsider" tweeted "OSU making Maynard look the the superstar he isn't." Heh.
Cal D needs to continue to get the Cal Offense on the field and this game is OVER!!
SON OF A....
It's an incredibly embarrassing loss. Tedford teams have had a long history of gagging and getting destroyed in road tests, particularly when traveling east. Maynard is generally an iffy quarterback, decision-making-wise. The offensive line sucks.
To be honest, it's embarrassing that it's even close. As a Stanford fan I thought (and hoped) this would be a fun little blowout to start my day.
I just saw Mitch Mcgary GRIII and Tim Hardaway walking around in the Big House.
Braxton Miiller reminds me of Denard, only without the interceptions and the injuries. This does not bode well for the future . . .
Thanks for the jinx. Cmon Cal make em pay!!
Played when they cut to a commercial during the Auburn game screams SEC.
OTOH, OSU's sieve-like run defense does make me feel a little better.
Touchdown Golden Bears.
Cal's looking good value for beating Ohio. Can't wait to see the looks on buck but faces if they pull this off and with that INT Cal!!!!!
What a horrible throw by Miller
Blaaaaarg awful throw by Miller. Had two wide open recievers on the side of the field he threw on.
Braxton, don't you know you shouldn't throw an interception?
Danny Hope is an asshole. That is all
on tv in the chicago area? It says it's playing the NW game.
Only on the BTN.com I think.
Go for it, Tedford.
Bigelow has 52.0 yards per carry. Not bad.
Here comes UL-M. You can blow this Auburn.
Good job, Jeff.
Missed FG #3 from Cal.
Isn't that his third missed FG today?
y u no switch to ann arbor
Ugh, enough Purdue postgame interviews. Where is my Michigan-UMASS action!?
Exactly...It's pass 330 pm and still no coverage? BTN fail indeed.
UL Monroe just scored a TD..28-28 minute left against Auburn.
Auburn is garbage and will get routed by Bama. No war left in that eagle.
Without Malzahn and a 200k per year quarterback Chizik has been exposed as the same garbage coach he was at Iowa State.
So that's who was carrying the ball for us against Alabama.
We should have made him a WR...
Cal blew it.
Too bad man, too bad. Too bad, too bad.
Thanks for helping expose their D.
I like Devin Funchess. He is good.
Sick tight end play! Pushing guys off of blocks! Toussaint not being terrible! AdBlock works great!
I am suspicious of this AdBlock having access to your browsing data.
I wonder what they do with this accrued data?
Who received the #87 jersey
Brandon Moore got it.
Edit: beat by the boss.
Squeaks out a win in OT against UL-M 31-28. Damn.
Gene Chizik's coaching greatness is re-affirmed.
Serves as a nice bookend to their squeaker against Utah State last season. Chizik will be fired no later than the end of the 2013 season. Book it.
I'm not a scheme guru but why would you ever do a stretch run towards the short side of the field?
Running game looks nice against Baby Seal
Running quarterbacks still frightening.
JLS throws the challenge flag for the fumble ruling on the punt. Atta boy!
Don't look now, but MSU's marquee win vs BSU is looking a little less appealing right now. Only up 15-9 on Miami (NTM) at the half at home.
