Saturday Drinking Thread
Well I'll start it. It's been a strange week for me...my Dad had major spine surgery on Tuesday and is recovering well and should be going home tomorrow, which is good news.
I picked up a growler of Harmony Crossroads in Eastown Grand Rapids earlier today after spending the day with my Dad at the hospital. I'm moving on to Troegs Nugget Nectar and some Bells Smitten in a bit. Back home and relaxing with the family now. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

It is just myself and the kids tonight (the wife is off working, or collecting more ER stories for an eventual book, as I like to tell her), but that and a full day of storm work hasn't stopped my from marinated pork shoulder and roasted brussel sprouts. Of course, the kids weren't terribly interested in the brussel sprouts, but more for me. Drinking? Still waiting for the go-ahead from the doctors (the current arrangement of meds makes drinking not such a good idea), so St Julian sparkling juice is sadly all I am allowed for now.
To the OP, glad to hear that your dad is recovering well.

I did see the Produce Station got some in their email blast for the week though. And I am sure Wine Cellar got some too.
My hidden gem in AA is Whole Foods on Washtenaw. I've gotten a lot of bourbon barrel beers there where they are sold out every where else.

I love Produce Station! Terrible place to buy wine, it's way too pricey, but they will give out some samples on Fridays.
Great pasta selection though! You can buy some nice flowers for your MGoLady while there too! Bring some nice flowers home and you won't get chewed out for buying weird Michigan beers for $15.99 a 6-pack.

Someday, I will spend a summer in Maine/New Hampshire, and daytrip up to Vermont and buy a case or two of Heady Topper...and wash it down with fried clams and hot lobster rolls.

I tried Society and Solitude double IPA not too long ago. By far the best beer I have ever had, so far.

I haven't had one since number 5. I think they're up to seven now. Double Citra and Abner are my favorite hoppy beers from them, but Le Sarrasin is the best thing I've ever had from them. Keep an eye out for The Veil opening in Richmond, VA (former assistant brewer at HF, the Alchemist, and did some work at Cantillon).

If you drive through Richmond, I'd HIGHLY suggest going to The Answer and Mekong (next door to each other and owned by the same guy). It's heaven for a beer nerd. Their beers are seriously some of the greatest I have ever tried. The IPAs are fantastic, but the stouts are where the greatness is at. Also, be sure to check out Trio in OBX.

Absolutely love Nags Head. Give us another 10 years, and we will be following you to OBX.
I'm a born and bred Michigander, but have absolutely fallen in love with East Coast beaches. Too bad anything with 3 hours drive of DC/Philly is a billion dollars. OBX is both perfect, but also reasonably priced.

Willing to move sight unseen, as long as we find a place we like. I was shooting for Savannah but the wife thinks its too hot in the summer.
I am born and bred West Michigan, but I understand what you're saying. That being said, our annual trip to Holland/Grand Haven in August is the highlight of my year.
Hurry down to NC, I'll hold the barstool next to me. Bring crabcakes.

love it. I live close to the beach in VIrginia Beach, but make the 45 (ish) minute drive down to OBX just because of how great the place is. It's a very slow paced area, but the people and food are wonderful.

My wife is originally from VA Beach (Navy kid) so I think she is somewhat open to the idea of living in that area again. I just want to be close to the beach.
Nice to hear such good reviews on the Outer Banks. I'm super excited for our visit.

As long as you hold some local shrimp. Made butter-poached sous-vide NC shrimp (from O'Neals in Manteo) last summer. Fantastic. The mahi and tuna available is awesome as well. Never eat red meat while we are down in the Outer Banks.
Would take the time to drive around for a bit if you've never been before. North of the Wright Memorial (Southern Shores, Duck, Carolla) becomes brutal during the summertime because of the road infrastructure has not caught up with the development of homes,
My wife and I are Nags Head folks (milepost 11ish, but will also drive down to Jeanette's Pier at 16). More restaurants, bars, and nightlife. Have not ventured past Hatteras, but I know people love it and points further south for having the entire beach to yourself. Will sacrifice that for having modern conveniences (good restaurants, wine, beer and groceries).

That shrimp sounds good. Nags Head area is where we are focusing, at least to start. Cooking up dinner within hours of it coming off the boat is sure nice.

I think it was #6. Abner is the only other one I've tried. I'm not a huge craft beer guy but Hill Farmstead is so good I feel like I need to sit down for a minute.

YES! That's probably the best way to describe it. I feel like VT is incredibly lucky with their available stuff. When Fiddlehead is the fourth or fifth best brewery in your state, that really speaks volumes about the quality available.

It's a Three Floyds hoppy kind of night for me right now. Drinking an Arctic Panzer Wolf right now, then a Permanent Funeral (one of my personal favorite beers).
