I'm having myself a brew right now, so I figured if anyone else was on this train, that we could start a drinking thread right now. So, what is it today, folks? I am currently sipping on my first ever Stone Arrogant Bastard and I must say that it is awesome! Last weekend before football, which means for the near future, I will be drinking nothing but Octoberfest. Also, anything good on the menu tonight? GO!
Saturday Drankin' Thread
Just watched Liverpool look pretty shoddy for 45 minutes but still notch three points. Continuing the party with a Blanton's.
A friend shared some with me a while back and I've grown to like it!
Can hardly wait until next Saturday!
Mix that Buffalo Trace with some lime juice and ginger beer for a delightfully refreshing Kentucky Mule. I add a little aperol or apple cider to it too.
Having a Founders All Day right now on the beach. Awesome way to spend the last Saturday without football.
Okay. I'm in Iowa and just went on a search for Bells Oracle (I've yet to try it). Everywhere was sold out, yesterday, the day it "hit the shelves". Is it that rare up in Michigan territory as well? I'm guessing not so much. My question: Who's coming to the Iowa game and would like to purchase some and hold until then, when we can meet & have a beer outside of Kinnick before we murder the Hawks?!
Got lucky and found some last night at a bottle shop here in DC area. I'd only seen it once before, on tap during DC beer week two years ago.
As your in Iowa, perhaps you have access to Toppling Goliath brews. I'd love to try some. Maybe you'd be interested in a trade.
Nice, good for you! I honestly can't belive I'm craving a beer I've never had before i.e. a bit distressed I couldn't pick a bottle or two up.
I'd absolutely see what I can get my hands on as far as TG. I've had a couple of their brews but none of their rarer/limited beers (their big hits). From what I know they're such a small brewery still that they're limited in production and of course "distribution". I would/will definitely contact them and see what I'm able to get my hands on at this time (this Fall).
Sipping on a Fat Tire..Counting down the days to Michigan football.....God Bless the Maize n' Blue!!!
Has always been a favorite. Not as an afternoon beverage of choice. Drinking the last of my Fresh Hop Southern Hemisphere from Sierra Nevada. Comes in 24oz.
Harvest Moon Beltian White. My fridge is stocked and ready for Michigan Football. This week cannot go by quickly enough
Some Pelforth Brune in Paris
It's like Daphnis and Chloe excerpts, except for master's students. Fortunately I have strong coffee and nice music to help me through the drudge/excitement/HAPPINESS/etc.
Wolverine Beer, and this baby for when I need a refill.
That is beautiful.
Where did you get that?
Oktoberfest. $6 for a six pack. Not too shabby for the price.
I love any Oktoberfest beer. Sam Adams, Leine's, whakteverfest. My favorite was a pony keg of Spaten's oktoberfest. I'd had it on tap before but nothing could compare to that pony keg in my fridge. It was gone before October even arrived. Maybe it's the correlation between Oktoberfest beers and the start of football. Damn, that was good...then I had kids and indiscriminante drinking was lost to time.
(I can't wait for 18 years from now)
About to meet up with a Michigan friend I haven't seen in 7 years, so I could be drinking anything and it would taste great.
Go Blue! 1 week.
Coors Lights. Played Black Forest today and just finished lunch. Heading down to the lake to float for a bit. Happy weekend everyone. Kickoff is 1 week and a few minutes away...
Watching Apopka vs Byrnes on espn. Zack Darlington being taken away by helicopter. Moving on his own and concious. Hope the kids alright. He's the Nebraska QB commit.
Hear he's conscious and moving on his own now.
Unreal. Luckily, there are three VERY good hospitals close to the school.
Blue Moon at DFW during a layover.
Anyone else watching University Christian vs Highlands on ESPNU? I'll take northern Kentucky HS ball at this point.
Last night, I had one of those flaming Dr. Peppers and my hair caught on fire. FML. I'm trying not to be a drama queen about my ruined hair style, but I'm pretty upset. And to make matters worse, when I was leaving the bar, this cute guy asked me, "Are you leaving already, Miss Michael Jackson?" For a second, I thought about kicking him in the shin, but I'm afraid of getting the "Hyde" treatment.
Or you could avoid drinking things on fire. Or make sure the fire is out before you drink them.
Octoberfest and a Florida thunderstorm.
We kicked off our fantasy football draft with a round of Macallan 18. Since then I have moved on to Ommegang Rare Vos, St. Bernardus Abt 12, and am now starting to get into the New Belgiums, including one, Giddy Up, which I have never had before. And in a few hours, after the grill is lit, I fear we will be powering our way through the seemingly endless supply of Old Style also in the coolers.
Just got off the boat from a boat race, which of course means beer, and in this case meant a Sierra Nevada and then a Fat Tire. My brother's birthday is today so I'm off to celebrate soon, and that means some nice basic Bell's Amber Ale and maybe there's some leftover Oberon in his fridge.
Over here, I am settling in for some Tigers baseball on FOX and sipping on the first of probably more than a few Victory HopDevil IPAs. I've had this for a while and just never got around to trying it until now - not bad at all really.
Might get wild in a bit and switch to Fruit Punch flavor.
I like turtles n natty!
Hite. Shitty shitty Hite. If you know what this is, then you stream Michian football early Sunday mornings.
S.Korea needs to buy into the microbrew craze.
Nursing one of my remaining Oberon (need to drive to Virginia to get it) while waiting for the wife to get home from her conference.
I sadly do know how shitty Hite is without having had the pleasure of traveling halfway around the world. A couple years ago I was at an Asian market here in Chicago and it was on sale, 24 cans for $8.99...I overpaid. If that is the best (even of the cheapest level of) beer you can get your hands on in Korea, my heart truly goes out to you!
Not as bad as Beast, but sadly for Korea, Hite is one of their best beers. It's a duopoly. Hite and OB, and they both suck.*
*unless ice cold, and it 100 degrees outside, and you are swilling it down with charcoal-grilled galbi.
I wouldn't say worse than the Beast, but those are the two worst things I have ever put in my body. Hite, to my memory is what a really bad beer that was stored in a desert for a year past the expiration date would taste like, while Milwaukee's Best ALWAYS tastes like warm urine even if the can is half frozen with ice chunks floating in it (or at least they did the two occasions I managed to choke down a couple of them before I permanently swore them off did).
However, my two roommates at the time would most definitely say that it (Hite) is worse as it did not sit remotely well with either of them that night.
Scene: Lots of intoxicated college students draped over futons and beds while Radiohead lays down the soundtrack.
Roomate (holds aloft a can of MB in each hand): "How can this can be Milwaukee's Best, when this can is Milwaukee's Best?"
You need to start home brewing.
Got myself a 6 pack of Two-Hearted and I'm going to settle in and watch a nice pitching matchup between Scherzer and Matt Harvey.
I was at a golf outing in Grand Blanc and had 2 Bloody Marys, 2 red bull & vodkas, 1 Jack & Coke, and to boot, I won a bottle of Gray Goose. It was a good day. I also have a beef brisket on the smoker waiting for my return.
Smoking a beef brisket and drinking jack and coke myself. What method did you use on the brisket? I went with a texas style rub low and slow at 225.
I've wanted to get a smoker for several years. My father-in-law has an Orion Smoker, but it seems that is not a traditional smoker? Correct me if I'm wrong. For a person that wants to jump in to schmokin, what would you recommend?
I don't have a traditional smoker myself. I have rednecked a old propane grill into a smoker. I am thinking of buying a big green egg for my first real smoker.
first night in a new house in Ann Arbor... SoCo with the roommates and catching up with friends!
Started out as an IPA made with New Zealand hops, but the persistent brettanomyces strain in my house and equipment rears it's head again It's now crazy dry, funky, and citrusy. Really refreshing.
It was crim weekend up here in the Flint area, so I am just relaxing enjoying the afternoon. I just had a Stone Enjoy by 9.13.13, and it lived up to the hype.
at the jags vs eagles game. just met nick foles dad. first comment about my Michigan shirt was that his son played at msu when the lil brother comment was made.
with a couple New Belgium Rolle Bolle on tap. Nothing special but light. Now its Sierra Nevada S. Hemisphere Harvest ale. Quite nice for a sub 6.00 bomber. Heads up to those going to Kinnick or near to Iowa. Toppling Goliath makes a beer called Zeelander. Its only at the brewery in Decorah. Take many growler bottles and get them filled. You won't regret. Go Blue and drink craft.
Leinenkugel Summer Shandy. Tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and I really like it.
And The Champagne of Beers.
I'm gonna finish it and sleep until the 31st.
Be sure to have a friend or a spotter for that.
I'll be bringing some with me to UTL part duce. If anyone wants to let me tailgate with them.
Shorts Bellaire Brown
.. Still feeling rough after a night at put-in-bay on Thursday.. Just miller lites at Frogtown in Sylvania for me.. Thank god my wife is out of town.
and had several Modelo's. Now home, and enjoying a Crown with ice, by a nice fire, listening to the waves of Lake Michigan lapping on the beach.
18 holes in the morning, and Whitecaps game with the kids in the afternoon. It's been a good weekend.
Always negbang the hell out of these inane "what's in your glass?" threads. About as relevant as asking everyone what they're wearing. I'm pantless in a Cvent t shirt.
Canebrake. Local craft beer here in South Louisiana. Great stuff.
