Saturday (2-1-14) BB thread

It's a non-Michigan day but still plenty of basketball going on.

In B1G play we have:

*Ohio State @ Wisconsin (12:00)

*Northwestern @ Minnesota (2:00)

*Michigan State vs. Georgetown (3:00)

*Iowa @ Illinois (7:30)

And in non-B1G games, a few games between ranked teams:

Oklahoma @ Iowa State (4:00)

Kansas @ Texas (4:00)

And the game of the day...

Duke @ Syracuse (6:30)

The Duke/Syracuse game sounds like a great watch but it will probably have Dick Vitale broadcasting and he has multiple orgasms over anything Duke related.  So put your TV's on mute.

Chris Collins is emerging as a COY candidate.  I cannot believe that team, which looked utterly hopeless just 3-4 weeks ago, is 5-5 in league play now.

Beilein should still win it though.  I'll be annoyed if Izzo's whining gets him it.

It would be so Sparty for them to lose to this crap Georgetown team (and hurt the B1G's reputation) right after scraping out a win at Iowa to stay a game behind us.  The day for them to lay an egg was last Tuesday.

1.  We are still missing a couple key guys (meaning I can't coach-up their 4* replacements)

2.  Travel.  Our guys were tired (meaning sloppy play with little or no hustle)

100.  Georgetown outplayed us and deserved to win. (despite missing a bunch of players)

1. We are still missing a couple key guys (meaning I can't coach up the 4* replacements off the bench yet)

2. Tired from the travel (meaning sloppy play and outhustled)

100.  Georgetown just plain outplayed us (despite missing a bunch of players)

Doesn't matter.

Michigan State will remain undefeated all-time in every sport and every game played ever that they didn't get screwed by refs or injuries.

I don't care about conference right now....HHAHAHAHA Sparty.  Though it really doesn't matter to either team when it gets down to it.  Why the fug is this OOC even game being played right now?

I was just checking scores on my phone and saw Sparty was down so I tuned in.  Uniforms are ugly.  The injuries must be mounting and the weird guys just didn't pick up the slack.

I think this State loss hurts the B1G bad. State is supposed to be one of our top teams. Losing to a dumpster fire like Georgetown right as the media starts to run with a B1G is overrated theme is really bad timing.

ehhh i tend to disagree. Having one of these random non-conference games right smack in the middle of the conference schedule is always awkward. Win or lose, very little changes. MSU could just about lose the rest of their games and still make the tourney (within reason of course). A coach never wants his team to lose. Players never want to lose. But there was very little incentive to come out fighting in this game (if you're MSU). Again, i'm not saying that was in anyway their gameplan, just what seemed to have happened....MSU was awful today.

I liked seeing that too. Obviously this is a bad loss for the perception of the B1G, but I hope the silver lining is that it knocks the floor-slapping Spartans down a few notches and they have a hangover coming back into conference play. Those automatic Ws on the calendar against Penn State and NW might not be so automatic...

Once Harris, Payne and Appling leave after this year, they are going to SUCK. You can almost see the dread on Izzo's face, as he watches this team without just one of their stars (Payne...Dawson doesn't count).

Yeah, but I think Beilein's staff is better than Izzo's at developing players, especially unheralded recruits.  Payne, Harris and Appling were superstar recruits that everyone wanted.  It's not a surprise they're good college players.  Izzo hasn't landed that many other star recruits lately, though, and I'm skeptical that we'll see any of his guys make a huge LeVert-like leap in performance.
