Sara Driesenga was a little nervous Friday afternoon. She is the first Freshman in several years to start the season opening game. This is completely understandable because Michigan has been her "dream school" since she was in the womb. I cannot confirm this but I would not be surprised if her lovely mother listened to The Victors on her Walkman when Mom was working out while she was carrying the young star. It is also very likely that her parents did not sing lull-a-byes to her. Instead, they sang "The Yellow and Blue".
Fast forward to last Friday. The opening game was against La Tech. Sara walked the first three batters in the first inning but then settled in just fine. She knuckled down, worked hard and got out of the inning without any damage. She then settled into her groove and shut down La Tech through 4 innings and got the win.
She pitched on Saturday against #25 LSU and started off very strong. She ended the weekend with 2 wins and a .64 ERA. She went 2 for 4 at the plate to help herself out as well. Because of her efforts, she was awarded the Co-Freshman of the Year award given out by the Big Ten.
Congratulations Sara. You deserve it. Thanks for joining the family and we wish you all the success in the world. Hurrah for the Yellow and Blue.

I am looking forward to seeing her on TV soon. I went to a gold tournament to see her last summer, but she was not there with her team, although Coach Hutch was. Dutch pride!
