This happened to Harbaugh at least 10 times in the 2010 recruiting cycle. I'm not sure what he's eating today.
but I know he'll be depositing it in the nicest toilet known to man.
Howeva, this is the nicest toilet known to man.
I dunno. Looks uncomfortable. Unless that Gold Seat is heated, your balls are going to retract the second you sit on that.
For 250,00 Euro's, it better have a heated seat!
I'm so upset right now. Someone get me a pitchfork and torch!
This is just another day in the life of a Wolverine fan. It sucks that Demar is not going to be joing us and it sucks even more that our school is not behind our coach. All Rich Rod can do is win this really is starting to feel like a football version of the movie Major League.
I hope Tate comes out of the tunnel against UCONN with Rick Vaughn's hair cut and they play wild thing.
Hey everyone:
Yes, this sucks. Yes, we don't know what happened.
Guess what? Life moves on. Dorsey will go elsewhere. Michigan will continue to field a football team.
So, let's root for Cullen Christian, Courtney Avery, Carvin Johnson, Ray Vinopal, Marvin Robinson, and the rest of the 25 2010 enrollees at Michigan this year.
Spilled milk just gets stinky. Let's be happy for what we've got.
I suppose you're right, but the whole thing stinks.
I'm going to start upvoting you the more you make calm and logical posts about this topic.
And just so everyone remembers - jg2112 doesn't care about recruiting.
You're right. You'll notice I'm asking everyone to pay attention to the guys who have signed and were admitted to Michigan.
Our (arguably) best recruit at a position of DIRE need is probably being denied the chance to join the team and you are going to harp on people for being upset? I'm just as excited for the incoming frosh as anyone, but it doesn't mean there isn't logic to being pissed off about the whole Dorsey situation.
Up until 2001, approximately, you'd have had no idea who Demar Dorsey was, thereby saving your emotions in being pissed that a 18-year-old isn't showing up to be in the defense.
When I grew up, Michigan players just showed up. I had no idea how many "OMG STARS" Desmond Howard had, or whether Rob Renes was guru approved. They just wore the uniform and I cheered for them. It used to be rather simple.
If you want to be mad at what you don't have, of course, go right ahead.
You are wasting your time, however, because your anger isn't going to change a thing.
Not to attack your analogy, but just because nobody would have heard about this type of dismissal years ago doesn't change the fact that it is embarrassing for the University and this team. Yeah, it is great to cheer for the laundry, but part of the unprecedented access provided by sport sites such as this is that you realize all the hypocrisy and offensive behavior that permeates big-time college sports. Sure, maybe we get caught up in it a bit with the "OMG, we don't need more 3 STARZ losers!!!!!11" but that doesn't invalidate a person's right to be bothered when a kid is strung along for months by indecisive and, frankly, somewhat-incompetent athletic and academic departments. Just because we wouldn't have heard about it earlier doesn't lessen the gravity of the situation.
Varsity Blues- underratedly "good" bad movie. Its no Roadhouse of course, but still solidly good/bad.
Dawson would have cried like that?
thats a real boner sinker. moving right along
Unless you go to Michigan State or the vest.
Maybe Michigan could not take DD's grades from that LifeSkills program?
Maybe not, but that should have been figured out a LONG time ago. Like, before he signed a LOI.
I think you're hitting on a point here, Magnus, that we don't officially understand. The processes for accepting an offer, and being admitted to school, are obviously different.
We saw that with Devin, with Marvin, and if you FB stalk, Stephen Hopkins (he applied to MICH in November/December, so he said in a FB post).
These guys all accept offers, then apply to the school. Obviously, Demar accepted an offer on 2/4 or so. But how could Admissions have accepted him as a student at Michigan without having all his transcripts before-hand, etc.? What I'm getting at is, if Demar didn't even make up his mind before 2/4, and he didn't apply to the school, how could Admissions say yes or no without the packet of info before them?
And, if they didn't have information of Dorsey's past until the Freep story broke, why are they out of line if the facts on the ground changed after 2/4? That's not their fault.
What I'm getting at - Stanford's commits kept getting knocked out by Admissions over the fall (remember Torrian Wilson?). This probably happened after these players formally applied to enroll at Stanford. But, if Michigan's Admissions didn't have the time to assess Dorsey's complete file before Signing Day, and didn't know of his "backstory," I'm not sure why we're upset at Admissions for making an informed decision once they had complete information.
Well, if these things are true that you're bringing up, then obviously someone isn't doing their job correctly.
It could be ADMISSIONS for not determining earlier what his situation was.
It could be THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT for poor communication.
It could be THE COACHES for not doing their due diligence on his background.
Regardless, I'm pretty sure that whatever's keeping him out of Michigan now could have been determined at a much earlier date. Someone at Michigan didn't do their job correctly here.
I have read that UM hadn't even received his first semesters grades when they accepted his LOI, fwiw.
So what are you most angry about with the way this has all played out Magnus? Is it the situation that Dorsey is in, the way this makes UM look, the way it reflects on RR or how much it weakens the team for the coming season?
I have read that UM hadn't even received his first semesters grades when they accepted his LOI, fwiw.
Then that's a retarded way to recruit.
I'm not angry about any of it. But I think all those things are stupid. It should have been handled differently, it's unfair to Dorsey, it will hurt recruiting, it's bad PR, and it will hurt the football team.
thanks
Magnus, I agree with you.
Quick question. Does he have to sit out a year if he goes to another BCS school?
Or is this like the baskeball example when a kid wants to get out of his LOI due a coaching change?
Since he never enrolled, I believe he will be eligible to play this year. They supposedly granted him his release, so that should take care of any eligibility issues with other schools. It's not like the Steve Threet thing from a couple years ago when he went to Georgia Tech, because Threet had already enrolled in January of 2007 at GT and then transferred after his first semester.
This pisses me right off! What an embarrassment this University is right now! With the state of their program, they can't afford to be shooting themselves in the foot and looking like hypocrites when they offer a kid a scholarship and yank it away as soon as he is ready to come.
The minute you think a star athlete is ready to come, this happens. Props for DD for having the right attitude in this whole scenario. I guess admissions never saw that video. Evil Michigan-Safety-hating-God at his best.
The interview that Sam posted is very sad. The kid sounds crushed. Bad protocol to hold on to a kid's LOI for 4 months only to send it back to him for something other than grades, which they knew about when they accepted his LOI. Good luck recruiting Florida for awhile.
This may have already been hased out in another thread, but is there any way he can go to a JUCO and try to get back to Ann Arbor next year? Or is the ship sailed for us?
After all this, I doubt he'll try to re-apply.
Wish Dorsey the best. People will argue that this is just admissions maintaining the "high standards" of UM, but all I see is a school that failed to live up to its end of a deal with a young kid. This could very well sour UM's recruiting efforts in Florida for years to come.
I'm beginning to see the end of the line for RR, and the saddest part is that most of his problems are not even self-inflicted. Incompetence by this whole University and this football team in particular is really jarring for a graduate.
I just dont get it. UM is struggling to stay relevant in football. We are quite frankly, the laughing stock of the Big Ten at this moment. I don't care if DD will go on to be genius. Is it any big suprise that a football player might be alittle underpar academically? I know it's a "no-no" to talk about, but what football team consists of nothing but legit 4.0 kids? Even Stanford will let a player slide if he's good enough. 5 star is pretty good....get him in here. I live in Columbus and i can tell you, bucks fans are having a good laugh at us right now. Not to mention the local radio stations have been reporting and literally laughing on air about it. Why wouldnt the university tell the admittion department to step aside on this one? He's kinda an important piece of the puzzle at the moment. Get picky when we are back to our winning ways and the 5 stars are lining up.
