Sam Webb on the "Silent" Commit
On the Recruiting Roundup, Sam made clear that the Silent Commit is NOT Sheldon Day. Sam also said yesterday that the silent is NOT a LB. This looks like Godin more and more. Considering that the early reports has this commitment as "not surprising," I can't figure out another option. No DB was on the verge of committing.

He apparently has some visits to take in the next couple weeks and will make it public after that.

Danny O Brien? Fits the description.
Heavy Tennessee lean though - but with Mattison there - who knows?
April 19th, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
I'll go back to 'he was expected to commit eventually'. Danny O'Brien hasn't been a Michigan lean in quite some time
April 19th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
Was Danny ever a Mich lean? Any word on his visit a couple of weeks back. You hear absolutely nothing about him.

What is the point of silently committing? I've never really understood that or a "soft verbal."
April 19th, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
They want to reserve a spot and aren't ready to announce yet. It could be that they're not, per say, completely committed, or they just want to set up some sort of public announcement and haven't yet.

but I gotta lock in "per say" (per se)
April 19th, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
Sometimes kids want to tell the coaches that they'll play for them, but they don't want to make it public just yet. Sometimes kids want to announce it on their birthday or whatever. And sometimes kids want to visit schools without other coaches giving them a hard time about having committed elsewhere or totally dismissing them/ignoring them on their visits.
The only people who matter in a commitment are the team and the individual player, so silent commitments don't really bother me.

I know I am going to get crap for this, but Magnus, you should tweet.
April 19th, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
What would I tweet? I don't really get the whole Twitter thing. I don't follow anyone on Twitter or anything. I'm not trying to be a smart-ass or anything...
...I just don't know what use Twitter would be.

As long as it is maize and blue balls. +1

well you knew you were going to take shit for it
I did, and I thought what you said was funny, which is why i upvoted you.

I'm currently in the process of writing an entire book about that.

Good information source. I have it set up for work and even though there is a lot of noise, still you pick out the good info. You can set up links to your site when you tweet. I use my iphone and blackberry all the time and just follow tweets and links.
I know you are not a smart ass, but you do have insight. Just link your website and people will follow the link there for stuff that's more substantial and descriptive.
I wasn't a big fan of twitter but it does give out some good info.

I might check into it at some point. I know this makes me a loser, but I don't have a smart phone. My cell phone is pretty basic and I like it that way. And I feel like if I were to use Twitter, I would want/need a smart phone all the time.
You are right, probably would need a smart phone or tweet when you have time on the computer. It just generates more buzz and activity for people to listen. All twitter is, is advertising ones thoughts.

I think the point of silently committing is to reserve a spot. Of course, there may be no real strategy behind it at all.
I read something earlier that this silent commit in this instance is keeping his commitment silent so that other coaches continue to go to his school which gives other players on his team a chance to get looked at.

Hello: LEVITICUS PAYNE?
April 19th, 2011 at 11:33 AM ^
I don't care where I am if/when that's posted for real, I will scream like a little school girl.
I believe it is not physiologically possible to scream "LEVITICUS PAYNE" in the manner of a littel school girl. That name must be bellowed.

Some coach said he read that Sheldon had committed, citing Sam Webb as the source
1) props to the blogosphere for having coaches find their information here
2) can't decide if that's pathetic or brilliant for a coach to do

Did Sam comment on Pike's upcoming announcement?
April 19th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
The only reason I don't just flat-out say no is that I was a little distracted when I was listening to him.
Listened to the round up during a lecture but I did not hear anything about Pike either.

Is Danny O'Brien too much to ask for?
April 19th, 2011 at 12:30 PM ^
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and the silent commit is mario ojemudia. He was at the spring game and michigan has been winning him over in the past few weeks.
While I really have no outside information on the subject, I did just notice on michigan's rivals page it had an article on Ojemudia.
I guess the more informed posters could help to clarify whether or not his could be a reality.
Speculate on that one.
Its actually not gone, it has been pushed to second place behind the article about spring game vistors.
Its Dee hart. He just finished spring ball in Saban land and realized he made a big mistake!
Old overused joke that is still way too soon.
So we know these for certain... Non-LB, an instate kid, has an offer, making his decision earlier than anticipated, and was leaning toward Michigan.
Only three fellars fit the above decsription: Godin, Thompson or Funchess.
I'd be happy with all but my money is on Godin committing.
So its not thompson or funchess. And i remember tvh saying the player wants remain silent because he wants scouts to keep coming to check out his teammates.
April 21st, 2011 at 10:09 AM ^
Had not seen it was defensive player. You are saying Godin then?
With Godin and O'Brien on the same team that school has exactly zero problems with scouts coming to visit. The big recruit to hint that is Jordan Diamond and he does not fit the above description.
Do you read before you post?
Like I said in Tom's Weekly roundup previously, all signs point to Godin. In fact, I'd be willing to bet cash money that its him.
But would you bkfinest it?
Jazzmar Clax! Jazzmar Clax! Gotta see that kid in the Maize and Blue.
his real name?? Jazzmar Clax??
Awesome.
