Sam Webb predicts the last 4 kids in the class
This morning on recruiting roundup, someone asked Sam if today were signing day, who the last 4 kids of this class were going to be. As ALWAYS, this was just Sam's "opinion", but here are the kids that he thought would join this class.
-Yuri Wright
-Bri'onte Dunn
-Jordan Payton
-Amara Darboh
I would agree for the most part, maybe substitute Wright for Banner, because that seems the most reasonable based upon recent happenings. I guess I have trouble putting a kid in this class who has yet to visit or even schedule a visit to campus. Maybe it works out that we can get 5 more kids in this class, as always we'll see.

That would be a really solid finish to this year's class.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:28 AM ^
In all honesty, I know we wanted one more linemen, but I honestly feel thats is because we were in on so many highly rated guys, and if we can squeeze 5 mroe commits it will deff. be a linemen. But I am already in love with what we have done for the OL and can hold off until 2013 now.
Yuri Wright is a stud, 5-star talent. You don't pass at that. I think it would be great to finsih out the already defensively minded class with Yuri, give Greg more peices, create depth and that day to day battle at practice.
Payton and Dabroh are two quality players at a position of need. As for Dunn, we have all been crossing our fingers for a while now.
...Just my thoughts
October 7th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
Rivals mods are saying the same thing, essentially.
Fifth would be Banner, whom we still lead for.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:51 AM ^
No linemen...
October 7th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
For the most part I feel like the feeling is that both Garnett and Banner will end up on the west coast. Add to that, that it looks like the interest in Jordan Diamond has cooled on both fronts, and this kind of makes sense. Having said that, I still wouldn't be shocked to see Banner in this class.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
Seeing how we just offered an offensive lineman I'd assume that we'd get somebody in the class
October 7th, 2011 at 10:53 AM ^
than a couple other places are.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
And you think that something else is more reasonable. On the one hand, we have a radio guy, program connected, been in the recruiting game for many years. On the other hand, we have an mgoblog member since early 2011 who thinks that another outcome is more reasonable. Makes sense.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:56 AM ^
I'm just acting on basic recruiting mind sets, that until a kid visits, you don't really know what you have. I believe TomVH said that early and often, even when he was aksed about Wright.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:01 AM ^
Darboh hasn't visited either. Magnuson committed before visiting this year.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:07 AM ^
But I don't think Darboh has the offer list that Wright has, and he's at least discussed possible visit dates to Michigan.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:10 AM ^
He committed days before his visit to campus.
Edit: Him being Magnuson.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
Has Garnett set up a visit date?
October 7th, 2011 at 11:32 AM ^
He's visiting for the TSIO game, and I believe that Magnuson is coming that weekend too. Big weekend!
October 7th, 2011 at 12:59 PM ^
Darboh has been on campus but not for an official visit.
October 7th, 2011 at 1:29 PM ^
Yuri Wright set a visit date according to rivals.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
Yes, how DARE you make a thoughtful point that may call into question one of Sam Webb's conclusions. What do you think this is, some kind of discussion board?
October 7th, 2011 at 11:22 AM ^
I'd have to go with Sam Webb because following recruiting is what he does for a living, but why lambast somone because they might have a differing opinion. As far as time on this blog goes, that doesn't necessarily make one an expert.
October 7th, 2011 at 3:06 PM ^
Also, the date you "joined" doesn't indicate how long you've read the blog.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
If those are the last four we end up with I would be estatic. I bet we extend the class to 27 though and land a linemen as well.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
I think one more lineman commits, then add those four guys and our class is a beast.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
As always, as always. As always.
As ALWAYS.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
Hopefully we can somehow squeeze Banner/Garnett in there also.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:55 AM ^
i think of this simpson's episode and Rex Banner

Rexy, Daisy had puppies. Love, mom. *nods*

This isn't a very Happy Birthday for Rex Banner.

"I'll get you, Beer Baron..."
"No you wooooooon't."
"Yes. I will."
"Doooooo'h."

Listen, rummy, I'm gonna say it plain and simple. Where'd you pinch the hooch? Is some blind tiger jerking suds on the side?
October 7th, 2011 at 1:02 PM ^
the cause of...and solution to, all of life's problems.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
Would this be the best recruiting class ever at Michigan? I know this could not be known until players pan out over the course of 2-3 years, but just throwing it out there.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:59 AM ^
the Henson class was epic. In the Rivals era, I'd go with the 2003 class, which had 2 5 stars in Woodley and Burgess, and then a slew of 4 stars, including Crable, Long, Mundy, and Hall. Of the 17 members of the class, 13 were 4 stars or better, and the lowest ranked recruit was Brandent Englemon, who turned out pretty well.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:21 AM ^
Until this class even finishes consensus #1, it's not in that conversation. Yet.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
Florida State's class is absurd and Texas isn't too far behind.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:04 AM ^
2012: 1 (obviously not final ranking)
2011: 23
2010: 12
2009: 14
2008: 6
2007: 10
2006: T9
2005: 2
2004: 5
2003: 8
2002: 19
The 2005 class had 23 commits, 2 5*, 12 4* with an average of 3.65.
The 2012 class has 1 5*, 12 4* with an average of 3.61.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:46 AM ^
We had the number one ranked recruiting class in the country in '98/'99.
October 7th, 2011 at 4:02 PM ^
It could end up that way. If we land Wright, Darboh, Payton, and Dunn, that will make 15 4-star guys, most of whom were wanted nationally. Our 3-star guys are guys like Godin, Funchess, Ojemudia, Braden, and Wormley, who got offers from at least a few other major programs. It's an almost perfectly balanced class that is especially great in the trenches. It's got everything but a QB, which won't matter if Gardner gets his redshirt. The 1995 and 1998 classes were amazing too, but this class might end up as the best.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:56 AM ^
Isn't that going off a 26 person class? If we take 28, that means we have room for 6 more. I'd like those 4 plus Banner and a DT (though with Obrien to UT, the last one may have sailed).
October 7th, 2011 at 10:56 AM ^
It sure seems like the coaches are going to push for another lineman, since they just offered Alex Kozan. Whether it's Garnett, Banner, Diamond, Kozan, or whoever, I think it's obvious the coaches want a sixth lineman.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
Moar Linemen!
October 7th, 2011 at 1:31 PM ^
+1 because I agree.
Still, strategically, I wonder if it might make sense to hold off on another lineman until next year (if the Banners and Garnetts of the world go elsewhere). Doing so would enable the coaching staff to sell a thin depth chart again next season, and I think recruits are less worried about those in their same class than those older than them. Plus, it already seems like we're in on a bunch of good 2013 OL prospects.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:57 AM ^
Sam really did seem like he was just giving his educated opinion this time, no " " needed. I don't think he was hinting towards anything we don't know already.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:59 AM ^
Just curious, what makes you guys think Dunn is not going to OSU? Are you all just assuming the hammer will fall and he'll split? Not saying I don't think that will happen, because I think it might, but I was just wondering if you know something I don't about him, something he's said, etc.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:04 AM ^
I don't think any of us know, just our collective speculation/desires. I think Dunn is leary of going to a team in such obvious turmoil, I have no idea if he will actually commit to Michigan.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:06 AM ^
Well, I can see that. Especially since, from the opposite perspective, I'm scared he'll run away. We don't particularly NEED a RB, but he is one of those recruits you take whether it fills a need or not.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:09 AM ^
the fact that Dunn is taking visits to other schools. 9 times out of 10 if a kid is taking visits to other schools,he isn't stay at the school he is "commited" to.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:14 AM ^
Yeah, well sometimes it's for the free tickets and tours to big games, but yeah. I've seen his "I'm 100% commited...for now" quotes and I personally think he's a Buckeye barring the biggest NCAA hammer falling. Maybe that's my delusional homerism though. Kid is good, shows lots of leadership, performance in the clutch, etc.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:22 AM ^
I think you guys will be fine with ball. He's pretty good. Concerning Dunn, I think their are subtle signs that he might choose us. He told Kalis to visit us and hid cousin committing to us. Little signs that may not be correct. I think Ohio will be fine with Ball
October 7th, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
Yeah, Ball is good. I had some high hopes for a couple of the RBs we have on staff, particularly Rod Smith. So far, Smith can't keep ahold of the football, but it's still early and he's young. I think a mature Smith, Hyde and Ball would be a great backfield depth chart. But Dunn would come in and make an immediate impact.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:37 AM ^
have seen Ball in person?? I haven't seen much on him but I do like the way he runs. I live in southern ohio but know a guy that went to his week one game and really liked what he saw. Anyways nobody knows anything about Dunn till he signs on the dotted line but it is fun to talk about.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
I have not seen him live, I actually live north of the border, so to speak. But from the highlight reels and some second hand info as well I've been impressed.
I agree that we don't know until we know and that it is certainly fun to talk. That's really why I come here, to have fun talking. I like talking on OSU sites too, but it's fun and interesting to have logical, rational discussions with the Michigan faithful as well. I think I can come here and provide some perspective from the OSU pov and get some UofM pov as well. I appreciate the civility you guys (almost all of you really) show me over here.
