Sam Webb: Michigan Targeting a Committed B1G QB

Submitted by KennyGfanLMAO on

In the most recent MGoVideo, Sam Webb reported that Michigan is looking for another quarterback for this class and is targeting a quarterback who is already commited to another B1G school. He said the player "doesn't want his name out there yet, but Michigan is all over him, and the player is certainly reciprocating the interest."

I figured since it has been a slow day so far on the blog, we could speculate on which quarterback Harbaugh and company are going after. One of the higher rated QB's committed to a B1G school is OSU commit, Torrance Gibson. Any chance he is the mystery player?

Discussion time!

I have serious doubts that Harbaugh would give a recruit or player the time of day if he's scared off by competition.

Some people here coddle our unproven QBs like they're orphaned children.

Malzone is getting a FREE four year education at the University of Michigan. The school he grew up rooting for with an EQUAL chance to compete for the starting QB position. I'd say he is a happy kid.

Sorry I didn't read the whole damn site before I posted, I have a life.

Never disappoint, douchebags of MGoBlog!

Looking at those guys 247 profiles it looks like it is one of them. There is a QB logjam in Columbus and these guys know the competition is way more open and they have a chance to play soon!

Gibson- He has set up 2 visits this weekend and next. He is clearly not 100%

Burrow- He has not set up any other visits but is the lower rated commit. Urban did visit him at his house on 1/15. Perhaps to tell him we respect you and would love for you to be buckeye, but perhaps its best to look around if you want to play...

Joe Burrow makes a ton of sense, and looking at the film, I could see how Harbaugh would make Andrew Luck comparisons just based on physical stature and athletic ability.

That would be an awesome late pickup!

That being said, Burrow has been all Buckeye for a long time, and Meyer just visited him in-home this week. It might be a longshot.

I would think it has to be an OSU commit if they want it "hush hush"--that is the only one that makes truly the most sense to want it quiet as it would be the school and fan base that would have the worst reaction to any potential flipping.

Regardless of degree, the same logic would apply for:

1) an OSU commit

2) a MSU commit

3) a lesser commit to any other school that may not yet have a Michigan offer, only burdgeoning interest, who wishes to use discretion not to keep fan base assholes from digging into him but to avoid a one-in-the-hand/two-in-the-bush mistake in case the Michigan offer never comes

I hope it's Burrow. I was watching his highlights and the ball just seems to pop of his hand. He has impressive touch and accuracy on the deep ball, decent foot speed and pocket awareness and can escape the pocket and make big plays happen with his legs.

The selling point for me was when I saw a highlight of him throwing corner route from the far hash to the opposite numbers with perfect touch and accuracy (2:48 mark in his HUDL highlights). That's an NFL level throw, and if you really think about it, it's better than an NFL throw because the hashes are farther apart in high school than they are in the pro's.

My only gripe (and it is probably too nitpicky) is that he could put a little more air on his deep seams and posts to let his receiver get a little more separation from the DB. He tends to put those throws on a rope and those will get picked at the college level by taller/more athletic LBs/Safeties. He will be coached by the best QB coach in the land if he comes here, so I wouldn't stress at all about it.

Go Blue, young man!

not overly impressed. The kid in TX looks a little better. Both are not as good as Gibson, but it's better than what we have.

If Harbaugh wants a dual threat QB in the mix...I'm not sure if this is the prototype for Harbaugh or if he'd just prefer to have 2 PP and 2 DT on the team to give him options.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but on 247 front page. Crystal balls are coming in for a Sam Madden. Have not heard of the mid but he just decommitted from Wisconsin today. Big O tackle

Watch Harbaugh's Quarterback Coaching Clinic on Youtube. Unless he's changed, there is no way he won't be working closely with the quarterbacks. He has it down to a science and he loves to teach. It's hilarious to watch too. He's a maniac, but in the best possible way.

After posting this I realized that all of you die hards surely have seen his quarterback clinic - old news. Still, evidence of how involved he'll be in the development of our quarterbacks.

makes the most sense. From an anonymity standpoint and the fact that OSU has 2 returning proven QBs and 3 if miller returns putting any 4-5 star frosh in a redshirt position. Plus lets face it meyer wont have trouble getting the pick of the litter each year at QB or any other position for that matter. Kids will be looking around at better opportunities at their respective position.
