Sam Webb: Michigan "acquitted themselves very well" with Jaylen Brown
Sam said that during yesterday's Recruiting Roundup (link below). He thinks Michigan "without question is a factor" in Brown's recruitment, though he doesn't know how much of a factor they are.
Sam added the following on Brown's recruitment:
*Michigan's coaches and admin staff did an "outstanding" job selling Michigan to Brown and his family over the weekend. They did everything they could have done.
*Coach Jordan, whom Brown's coach has raved about, described Michigan's player development to Brown and Co.
*Brown's AAU coach pointed out to Brown that Michigan has been sending players to the NBA Lottery who came to school rated much lower than Brown.
*Brown says he doesn't care about the "rock star life" a player experiences at Kentucky.
Sam also talked about Brown the player/student:
*He's everything he's hyped to be.
*He's a hard worker per his AAU coach.
*He's "intense" about academics.
*His shot has improved over the last year but still needs work.
*He's an excellent passer.
*He's overly right hand dominant when dribbling.

Another note: Brown apparently visited Cal after visiting Michigan, which suggests to me that he is sincere about his interest in academics.

He was tentatively set to announce his decision on April 1 at the McDonald's All-American game.

I just pray that it's no joke
This is a program changing player...not necessarily in wins, we've been there in recent years. But in attracting the nations top talent.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
I promise MGoGods I will start the biggest posbang in the HISTORY of posbangs...I will clear the entire front page with duplicate threads ALL posbanging this momumental moment.

"*Brown says he doesn't care about the 'rock star life' a player experiences at Kentucky."
One of these days, a recruit is going to "spill the beans" about exactly what "perks" are included with that "rock star life." I have a feeling it will be a compelling "read."

If I was a top 10 player coming out of high school and women and money were offered to me and I came from meager beginnings I'd take that life. Get off your pedestal. It's very easy to take the moral high ground when those things are alien to your life.
March 24th, 2015 at 11:19 AM ^
I agree with your point actually, but I'm not sure why you're attacking Tater. He didn't blame the players in any way.
He understood it would be there for him. He also happens to be the most successful of the Fab Five.
He might be the most successful post-basketball Fab 5 member, but definitely not the most successful career in basketball (that's C-Webb hands down). Even post-basketball career-wise it's arguable he's not the most successful.
Well, except for that whole lying to a grand jury thing.
March 24th, 2015 at 11:46 AM ^
many would take that life even if they aren't from meager beginnings.
at that age, that sounds like exactly what I was looking for.
March 24th, 2015 at 12:21 PM ^
I think everyone blames Kentucky rather than the "student" athletes.
That and Calipari's less than clean image (Money, drugs, hookers for Marcus Camby @ Umass, fake SATs for Derrick Rose @ Memphis)
March 24th, 2015 at 12:53 PM ^
Well aliens aren't real.
from what I see
Now we know what yours is.
I think kids should always be encouraged to take the moral high ground. Don't you?

If you play basketball at UK you walk on water vs other schools where they think you can walk on water. The bars, resturants and on campus the players are treated like rockstars. Not to mention their dorm rooms are super nice. When I used to work as a regional manager in food we did a lot of promo stuff with UK and their players, this was when John Wall and Cousins was there, and you got a glimpse into their life. Coach Cal was actually really cool and very laid back when I flew their charters last year. John Wall was also really nice and laid back and would sign anything and loved helping kids out. Cousins was a dick. I also got to meet Randal Cobb who was a great guy. I miss flying the NCAA charters.

Not saying anything regarding the "cleanliness" of their program, but the players for Kentucky basketball are rock stars in that town. It's a basketball state with arguably the nation's best basketball program of the last decade at a school that has no legitimate football team. Even if there is nothing off the court, their players are rockstars.
I'm sure when players are being recruited by U-K, academics and classroom work probably aren't even in the top 10 of selling points. Hopefully, Jaylen can put himself above that kind of stuff and look at the long term.
Why did you put quotes around "read"? That implies that you won't actually read it.

been searching for some sort of reaction from brown's visit. thank you, sir!

It would be incredible, and it sure seems like a perfect place for him--I'm not sure who can sell developing players' jump shots better than Beilein. But it's hard to believe anything will happen. I don't think we've beaten out the true bluebloods (Kentucky, Kansas, Duke) for any recuits in the Beilein era, aside from McGary, have we?
March 24th, 2015 at 10:54 AM ^
McGary is the lone victory against the big guys.
March 24th, 2015 at 11:00 AM ^
GR3 would have had offers from everyone if he didn't commit so early, before he blew up. He was ranked higher than McGary on some sites.
Maybe, maybe not. But we still didn't beat them out for him. When we "won" him, we beat next to nobody, we were lucky his dad's alma mater didn't offer.
March 24th, 2015 at 10:57 AM ^
We beat out Arizona for Chatman.

How many different boards do you offer this ignorant hot take about Chatman on?
March 24th, 2015 at 11:15 AM ^
you must acquit.
I saw that and thought, WTF are they trying to say with that inane statement? Apparently UM was charged with some sort of crime and used Jaylen as their alibi?
acquit verb [T] (DECIDE NOT GUILTY)
acquit verb [T] (PERFORM)

Well, let's just say the last time that one of our recruits had their own blog on USA Today they came to Michigan. (Would link, but can't at the moment. Peppers and Brown both had/have them.)
March 24th, 2015 at 10:55 AM ^
UCLA concerns me because they are also a damn good school.
Hopefully Beilein can sell him on his ability to turn players into jump shooting aces.
March 24th, 2015 at 12:01 PM ^
I'd be worried about them more than anybody else
Everyone has been picking UCLA over us lately.

Please, please let Brown come here. The kid is an absolute beast. I'm glad things seemed to have went well.
March 24th, 2015 at 10:59 AM ^
Welp, that means he's Kentucky bound. It's like hearing some kid say "my dream school growing up was Michigan."
March 24th, 2015 at 11:07 AM ^
Jaded.
March 24th, 2015 at 12:15 PM ^
If by "jaded" you mean "I've heard this a hundred times from kids who end up committing to schools of notably lesser academic reputation than Michigan," you're damn right I'm jaded.
That's exactly what he meant
March 24th, 2015 at 11:53 AM ^
but one Jabrill Peppers said his dream school growing up was Michigan.

the biggest MBB "Hello..." in MGoBlog history.
Does Brian have enough trained hamsters to run all the wheels it'll take to keep MGoBlog humming in case of such an announcement?

Supposedly, improvements have been made to combat the site meltdowns which have occured in the event of good news (or terrible news, depending on the thread), but just in case, as Ace sometimes does, it would be a good thing to have your own contribution to the thread written in advance so that you can say what you would like and weather out protracted 502 and 503 periods.
