Sam Webb: MD DT Darian Cooper Update
Sam Webb gives the full treatment to Darian Cooper, 4* DT from storied DeMatha HS in Hyattsville, MD (in the DMV). As previously reported by Tim and TomVH and recounted in this article, Cooper has Michigan in his top seven along with Penn State, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Michigan State and Maryland. He made a visit this spring to Michigan for the BBQ at the Big House and struck up a friendship with Michgian commit Delonte Hollowell.
Cooper has current teammates who have committed to MSU and Maryland and commit and former teammates are playing at Iowa and Maryland. Weather may be a factor, but if he doesn't like the cold in A2, he won't like it in EL, Iowa City or Happy Valley either.
In the final analysis official visits could tell the ultimate tale. Cooper plans to take all five before arriving at a decision, and both Michigan and Michigan State appear safe bets to receive them.
"For Michigan, I'm just trying to get out there and hang out with Delonte Hollowell and see how a Michigan winter really is and see if I could possibly survive it up there," he said. "As far as Michigan State, that is another school that I want to get out there and visit. I know the coaching staff is great up there. I also know they are a team that is going to compete. I definitely want to get up there and check everything out."

It's plenty cold here in MD. Plus we tend to get massive, city cripling snowstorms on occation.

Maryland isn't that much warmer in the winter than Michigan. It's not like he's from Florida and is considering to come to Michigan.

Florida isn't that much warmer than Maryland. It's not like he's from Ethiopia and considering coming to Michigan.

Wait, wait, Ethiopia really isn't that much warmer than Michigan. Its not like he's from Mercury and considering Michigan.

Venus is actually the hottest.

In the winter or the summer?

I hear Uranus gets pretty hot too.

It does, but only sometimes...

He could be from the sun originally like Denard (how else is pure dilithium formed but on the surface of the sun?) and then transferred to DeMatha . . . I hear its pretty hot on the sun.

Please don't take me to the pickle farm.
I wish they'd bring that show back

Agreed. That show made Adult Swim for me. I still have many an episode on my computer, one of the funniest shows ever, IMO.

Florida IS much warmer than Maryland... Especially in winter.

Your sarcasm meter may be a little out of whack.

read into this too much. He's a high school kid who has perceptions about Midwest weather (that it's cold!). After his visits, he will clearly be blown away by our school. If nothing else, I don't think the weather will be a determining factor. I mean, look at his list of schools-- weather can't be THAT huge of a factor.

Amen to that. If you've ever been to College Park (MD), you know this to be very, very true.

I read the article and I can't say that I have a good feel for his recruitment. We're on teh radar but the fact that he has other teammates at other schools doesn't work in our favor at all. Hopefully he'll recognize there is playing time available early....

We only have 1, Josh Furman. Furman was a top player from the state of Md last year so I wonder if these guys know each other. Any kind of "in" would be valuable at this point.

Why do out of state high school kids (with no real ties) to Michigan State seem to have such an interest when they are also looking at UofM? Worse academically, far less players to NFL, and (aside from last weekend) generally much less spotlight from big games.
I know I am biased, but it really boggles my mind.
