Apparently, Jerry Montgomery has left for Oklahoma...he was our primary recruiter for our three current commitments.

From the Scout article that isn't paywalled: "Contract details weren’t available at press time, but sources indicate that Michigan offered a competitive compensation package to Montgomery, but ultimately he felt the opportunity at Oklahoma was clearly one he couldn’t pass up."

I'm guessing they made him recruiting coordinator, which is something we couldn't match with Hecklinski here.

Missing the point. You wouldn't replace a broken garden house with a shovel, so why would you replace a D-line coach with a WR or RB coach. Some of you need to go back to your video games.

I must say, I'm a little lost here. What the hell does Mike Hart know about being a DL coach?

I love the guy and would love more than anything to see him back here, but uh, as a DL coach? Not exactly what I pictured.

Montgomery was the DE coach, so essentially he micro managed a bit with Mattison and Hoke both also coaching the DL. The thought is that those 2 can still coach the DL and that the incoming coach can really be put anywhere Hoke sees fit. I do agree with the overall suggestion that the new coach should be a young, energetic, and eager African American though and Mike Hart certainly fits that bill.

People don't leave for promotions when the path ahead of them is blocked at SEC schools.  Weird....must be the only place that that doesn't happen.  If he really is being offered recruiting coordinator responsibilities, it's a great resume booster and I would have been surprised to see him stay here when the path ahead is blocked.

I'm sure the staff will find another replacement and I'm sure energy and recruiting ability will be evaluated.  Brandon understands what it takes to bring in good talent, so I wouldn;t worry about being out-bid.

Look what Cam Cameron is making at LSU and tell me DB would ever pony up that kind of money for an assistant coach. The only reason we got Mattison was because he wanted to be close to his daughter and granddaughter.

I guess that will hurt us with Mone; and McDowell; and Marshall. And who knows how many othe recruits he was in on, recruits he's going to try and steer towards Oklahoma now.

Most of all, though? It's just embarassing.

Has anyone ever thought about will happen when Fred retires? I'm wondering if Tyrone or Mike will get the running backs job. Someone will be left out and I can only imagine the blog when that happens.

As noted by others here, we don't really need a defensive line specialist... So why not use the free coaching spot to hire a special teams coach? Maybe one who is at least comfortable with the idea of trying a rugby-style punt formation? But they must be fluent in The Brunette Technique.
