Sam Webb: "I do not believe Les Miles is a prime candidate for this job."

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on

Sam didn't offer any reasons for Michigan's lack of interest.  He did say that donors had enouraged Hackett to look at Miles and that he still believes Miles would take the job if offered.  Per Sam, though, Michigan will get a "yes" from another coach on its list before it gets to Miles (this did not seem to be a comment on Harbaugh in particular - it seemed more to be a comment on how low on the list Miles is).

You can click on the link below and go to the fourth segment of this morning's show to hear for yourself.

EDIT: A few of the posts in this thread are about Les Miles and not JH, which I think is a good sign.  It shows we're not Harbaughing too much about Harbaugh to the point where we're crazy Harbaughs.  That said, brother, can you spare some Harbaugh?

I could care less how they spin it or who wants to try and say they were right all along.  All I know is one of our decommits (Chris Clark) mentioned on Twitter last week he hoped that we landed "Coach Harbaugh".  Those are the only opinions that matter now, the current players and prospective future players.

I missed the chat this morning but saw the explosion of 100% posts right after haha. Multiple people (from both Michigan's side and from Harbaugh's side) seem to be humming its 100% as of this morning.

I'm optimisitic but I'm firmly in the camp of it's 100% when there's a press conference / official announcement. Let's cross our fingers that this thing is finally a done deal!

Miles is a very good coach and has been very successful at LSU (not so much before that), but he'd be a terrible fit at Michigan. It would be RR-level "square peg into a round hole" if you ask me. And no, being a Michigan Man doesn't mean he'd be a good fit. See, e.g., Dave Brandon; see also, Brady Hoke.

Without access to the contract, I can't know for sure (and this in no way constitutes legal advice and no one should rely on it) but there would seem to be no reason that he couldn't sign a contract that was contingent on the termination of his 49ers contract in accordance with its terms.

In the contract is undoubtedly a representation that the contract doesn't conflict with any agreement to which Harbaugh is a party (no such thing as "illegal" in conflicting contracts - the question is whether it constitutes a breach of an existing contract) - if it doesn't kick in until the other one goes away, shouldn't be an issue.

Did they do this?  No idea.

Harbaugh(s) in pool 1.

Stoops, Mullen, Mora in pool 2.

Miles, Gundy etc in pool 3.

I've watched nearly every LSU game for the past four years so I have a leg to stand on when I say this. Miles makes terrible game day decisions. He wins games because he can dip into the talent pool of LSU and have his pick of anyone, as well as getting kids from Texas and other recruiting hotbeds. He then puts those kids in bad positions on game days. There is a reason these kids explode in the the NFL and really don't at LSU.

He's a good coach, but makes too many mind numbing decisions, see starting Jordan Jefferson over Jarrett Lee in the BCS National Championship game.

that somthing he has to look at on the NFL vs College decision is, he has taken an NFL team to three conference finals and a super bowl and they want to get rid of him. Imagine if four years from now he has taken Michigan to three Big Ten title games and one national championship game? A successfull stint at Michigan will provide him and his family the stability that an NFL career cannot.

The deal isn't done. When he is announced during the Halftime of the Illinois game I will then believe it.

Other than that it is Happening!

if Harbaugh does anything close to that in 4 years at Michigan, given his success in SF, he'll have his pick of NFL jobs IF HE WANTS THEM (he of course may not at that point).

That's why I think he'll take the job - NFL will always be there, but the Michigan job may never be open again at the right time for Harbaugh.

keeps getting more comical.

Harbaugh is going to be M's coach, I can just sense it.

Get ready recruits, JH is coming and if you want to be part of something special, Michigan is the best choice!!!

Meanwhile back at the point of the thread (Miles) I still maintain he IS the "plan B" option but out of respect to Miles they are giving him air cover at LSU by saying he isnt.  The only way Miles comes into play here is if Harbaugh somehow gets cold feet (or a mega NFL offer) at the last minute so it's not like we NEED to go public about Les anyways.  We'll only need to talk about Miles if Harbaugh's a no-go and it looks like that won't be needed so why screw things up for Les at LSU for no reason?

I think we've got both plan A AND plan B locked & loaded "just in case".  Now it's just the end game with the 49ers which is why we've been both patient and quiet.

We're waiting.

but it is in the CLOUD right now and safely there till the OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!  At which time it will be downloaded onto MGOBLOG first for final verification and approval and thenceforth to the party of the first part by the party of the second part and the second clause which rules the third clause - but there wont be a sanity clause --

because as Chico said to Grouch - You can't fool me, there aint no sanity clause

It does't matter if we get Harbaugh but I don't understand what people in Schembechler Hall's deal with Miles is. He won a national championship and definitely would have been better than Rodriguez or Hoke.

Guys - I think the 100% is way ahead of itself.   way ahead .... i would say that it should happend but if he's still "listening" to NFL teams, there's still a chance it doesn't happen.

With that said, I'm not watching any of the NFL teams ... if it's true there is nobody really interested then i would say 100% is accurate.

Biggest threat! Seems Jimmy is intrigued about the Bears a little to much for me. Come on Jimmy come home and be a legend! In the NFL you are one losing season away from being fired. In San Fran you were in 3 NFC Championships and your still gonna leave!!! Let's GO BLUE
