Sam Webb has a great article on Jabrill Peppers in the Detroit News

I love this guy already. I can't wait to see him in action.

Edit: The prior link was still working for me but I've edited it to the link posted below.

That link didn't work for me, so you might try this: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20131220/SPORTS0201/312200031/1437/O… Nice, article that shows Jabrill's confidence. Says he's trying hard to get Vic Enwere to drop the commitment to Cal and #GoBlizzyBlue, but it's been detailed here and on WTKA that Vic's decision will become clearer once he finally visits Cal to compare that to his AA trip.

I don't mean to come across as a dick, but it seems like every three days some writer somewhere gets paid to write yet another piece on how Jabrill Peppers wants to be better than Charles Woodson.

Am I in the wrong industry?

I don't think he wants to be better than Charles, but wants to do his legacy proud.  No doubt he has all kinds of confidence, but I'm not picking that up.  I think he understands that it will still take hard work and will still take an entire team to succeed.  It sounds to me like he wants what is best for Michigan, not just himself.

It also seems like Peppers is similar to Woodson in that he expects the best of himself and tries to provide the spark to get others to expect the same of themselves. That's important to leading and leadership, and it already seems like Peppers could be a leader for the Wolverines given time. As Woodson himself approves of the bravado, I certainly don't see the problem.

Agree that he is showing leadership. He's "The Commissioner" for a reason, and he talks a lot about the team, not just himself, achieving greatness and "causing havoc." I'm trying to contain my expectations, but on D and O he looks so good, and we're looking him to play on D right away along with special teams. Should make an immediate impact in one phase or another or all.

He's said he wants to be better than Woodson on several occasions, and there's nothing wrong with that and nothing about it is inconsistent with everything else you said. There's a big difference between "I want to be better than Woodson" and "I AM better than Woodson."

Maybe I'm being too over-simplified, but my original impression of Peppers commitment was it meant UM was going to start to land more top national kids like Hand, D. Harris, Campbell, etc.  I figured his commitment would get other guys like Hand to follow suit.  After missing on Hand, Campbell decommiting, Harris rumors about, and not yet getting McDowell (I know he's local, but he's still a top kid like Webb) I now get the feeling that Peppers commitment was not quite enough yet to get the top national kids, at least not with any sort of consistency.  That doesn't mean we can't get them, but seem to be in mix more, maybe even feel like kids are UM leans, but we aren't quite closing them with much regularity.  I know it's frustrating that OSU still seems to get more than we do, especially in Dec. & Jan. and that's just not the UM coaches' style.  But, now I am starting to feel that it will have to be Peppers' play on the field that gets UM to that level.  His commitment (like Greens) was not enough, we need to see big game performances on TV against the OSUs, NDs, major bowl games etc. before we have better luck with those top national recruits that are not regional.  Otherwise the OSUs, Bamas, FSUs will snatch them up as they close theirs seasons on high notes with great performances in big games late in the year.

He may well do as good as Woodson, but there will only ever be one Woodson at the BIG HOUSE!  His goal should be to be the BEST HE can be -- and everyone will talk about the time JB KILLED IT!  Yeah!

If he wants the #2 jersey, but he also wants to be BETTER than Woodson, the #3 jersey seems like the perfect differentiator where he can make his own, but similar, legacy.

is that I get the feeling he's going to be a leader on and off the field.  I think its his confidence and optimism and the way he kind of knocks things a little off center but is completely classy about it.  I think he has an elite set of physical tools and I think hes going to be an awesome force as he develops his body.  Obviously speed can't be taught and I think he's got a full load of that.  Lets not forget that a Team needs contributions from every single member, but the way Peppers identifies himself with responsibility even in trying to unify and bring in other recruits makes me really happy he's made up his mind to Go Blue.  My expectations for Jabrill is that he's a team captain in a couple of years, and my expectation for the coaching staff is that they give him the chance to handle the ball and use that athleticism as a competitive advantage on the other side of the ball.  I keep hoping that another lockdown corner gets to play across from him someday soon (theoretically could be Countess methinks, and ideally someone following up from there).

I like this kids swagger. We need more of that!
