BLUE HIKER

Super excited about the 2012 class.  I am just hoping that it can be followed up with more quality kids like Ben in 2013 and the next few years.  5 years from now I would love to see a roster full of top talent rolling over year after year the way schools like Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama have been doing for some time.  I think it will be important to kids like Ben to see a high quality product on the field this year.  With a class like 2012 is projecting, it will be difficult to pitch playing time for 2013 recruits....especially on defense.

I hope that the stacked LB class of '12 isn't a deterrent for him. I feel the same about Elmer. His dad had mentioned how he would monitor our recruiting for depth chart purposes. At that point I believe we only had Braden and Stacey on board. These coaches could sell snow to Eskimos though so I hope they'll calm any concerns.

Elmer's father doesn't seem that concerned either:

MR. ELMER: We have to have a great school first and foremost. He has a 4.3 GPA so we have to find him a good school, could be Ivy league, could be a place like Michigan. When he decides what he wants to study he'll look into that. We're looking out for him and our other children too, he's helping us develop for our other children when it's their turn. I actually study this stuff more than I should, the rosters, the positions they have on the team, who they signed for 2010 and 2011. I'm not really concerned with the 2012 commits because I think he can play with those kids.

From a TVH interview a while back.

Good classes are going to proceed and follow every recruit at a place like Michigan. If you can't compete with them, you shouldn't be going there.  He's good enough to play with anybody, and can earn his time vs. anybody.

The coaches seem to be doing a great job identifying the right athletes for the Michigan program.  The article doesn't say what position he's being recruited for, but I'd have to guess LB.  However, Ben sounds like a very versatile athlete who could play elsewhere too.  With the bounty of LB's we're bringing in next class, I'd imagine 2013 we'll be pretty selective at that position.

It sounds like Michigan is in good position early on with Mr. Gedeon.  We definitely need to raid Ohio heavily while the black NCAA storm clouds are still swirling around Columbus.

In another thread, somebody touched on the comparison of Michigan football to Tom Izzo in the post-scandal era.  We should hope to get as lucky as Tom Izzo did.

Since nobody felt the least bit sorry for Michigan and the media made a giant of Izzo, I wouldn't mind it at all if Michigan took advantage of THE Ohio State University Scandal to get the top talent out of Ohio for the next ten years.  It will probably only happen for the next two to five, but I'm all for it.

The only thing better would be if Dantonio and Izzo had a little "NCAA party" up in EL this season.
