Sam Webb is 60/40 in favor of Michigan landing Harbaugh

Submitted by SAMgO on

Amidst all the Beaver/Webb power play madness over at scout, Sam had this to say:

"The only thing that's different from a few weeks ago is the feeling among some that he will be a tougher pull. But he is not impossible. Far from it. The source that corresponded with Harbaugh yesterday is at 50/50, but I'm a tad more optimistic than that in the aftermath of Lloyd's public advocacy. I'm at 60/40 Michigan gets him."

He is adamant that Jim is largely currently focused on making the playoffs with the niners (please no) and hasn't made up his mind yet. He also mentioned that a group of former M players went to SF a few weeks ago to feel him out, and he didn't close the door on the possibility.

I am going to be honest and say that I would have been disappointed if I had come to this thread and not seen this GIF. Well done, sir. You are capturing the state of things around here and regarding this coaching search rather well indeed.

Like I've said in regards to the "Harbaugh not coming" topics, I'll believe it when I see it. Only a small handful of people truly know the anser to the "will Harbaugh coach Michigan next season" question, and none of them are talking publicly. Like was said above, we'll know when we know.

The more I read about this shit, the more I'm convinced this is just the dumbest coaching search in the history of coaching searches... So Michigan.

I could be completely wrong... and this could be the best one in the history of searches, but it's Michigan...

Sigh..

A month ago it looked exactly the same. The way they were slow-walking everything without any sense of urgency either meant they already had a verbal committment from somebody good and everything was cool or they were hopelessly lost as to what they were doing.

All we can do is see how it turns out.

Read Brian's latest post.. that's reassuring.  Sounds like Plan B is a normal search (which is being exercised) while we wait on JH.

I'm happy with all this Playoff controversy because it takes a little of the heat off of Michigan (at least media attention-wise.)

Exactly - and there's really no reason to be in a hurry.  Our competitors have already hired their guys and they hired guys we didn't want.  Outside of about a week or recruiting (which is really not that big of a deal) we have nothing to lose by taking our time and being as deliberate as possible.

What that has happened so far convinces you it's dumb?  We are currently in the running for one of the best HCs in all of football, possibly in the running for a handful of other good-to-great college HCs and, the best news of all, we haven't hired anyone shitty (yet).  What have you read that has been the least bit bad, aside from the fact that Harbaugh hasn't yet signed a contract?

No b/c shit just seems off. It's my personal feeling. As I said I could be gladly wrong. I don't trust Michigan to get this right after fucking it up twice.

I'm not deluding myself into believing something that has 5% chance of happening in the history of NFL and college football. Defense mechanism so be it.

If it happens, I'll be the first one to admit I'm wrong.

that's supposed to be secretive. Well now I'm convinced that Michigan is screwing up royally too. What else could it mean?

If we already had a coach in place like Florida and Nebraska I would question the competency of the search. Those were underwhelming hires.

I think it all goes along with what Brian said about him being flaky.

He's probably going back and forth about it and it will all come down to chance, perhaps what he had for breakfast one morning (ha)

I just think we should all buckle in and ride this one out. We're not going to know until we know, and that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Michigan always looks stupid when doing a coaching search.  It seems to me that there are too many layers of "red tape" and non-sports people who have to approve every move.  I could be wrong, but I am guessing there are still many factions to satsify behind the scenes.

I just hope they get this one right.  And once they do, they need to make sure this coach gets the full support of everyone with any influence in the program and tell the whiners to STFU.  Michigan let their politics sabotage one coach and hire the wrong person to replace him.  Someone is going to have to be strong enough to say, "the suck stops here."
