Ryan Mundy and Mike Cox Starting for the Giants

Submitted by IvyLeague on

Mundy at FS and Cox at KR. Interesting. Didn't even think Cox could crack the CFL. Good for them though!

Judging by your earlier comment it might be hard for you to grasp this but it's entirely possible to like something and have valid criticisms of it or to actually like something else. I'm sure he's proud of his high school and wanted to give a shout out to his area and it's not indicative of his feelings towards Michigan (unless he's the most passive aggressive person on earth). They're player intros -- they mean nothing. Maybe he's the ultimate troll and knew it went put some panties in a bunch on mgoblog?

Proud fans curious as to why a former student athlete doesn't want to give props to his former school in a segment where the main point is to mention the college you attended? That's seriously why you hate this blog and Michigan fans? Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of reasons why people get jaded about this site, but this is the most moronic reason I've heard yet.

I don't personally think it's odd when a player doesn't name his college, and if I was in his shoes I'd probably make a point to spread the love to every school I ever went to. However, just like he's not the first or last guy to do what he did, this blog and this unversity's fanbase is certainly not the first nor the last group of people to show dissapointment at their school not getting an expected shout out. This slight grumbling is not unique to MGoBlog, so it's daft to use it as a reason to be annoyed at the blog.

Well, to be fair, I have never heard a player name TWO schools in their introduction, and it's entirely possible that he didn't want to pick one over the other, since he played at and graduated from both.

90% percent of those intros if not more refer to the college they went to, when someone doesn't do it its a surprise not the other way around.  Sure maybe he is ambivalent toward the universtiy and he isn't the first person or michigan player to do it, but it is still an abnormality and probably not a great sign.  And even if it was done without any malice, guys in the nfl saying they went to michigan with pride is a good recruiting tool that reaches out to young players and helps keep us a national brand so its not a good thing when it doesn't happen.

He got extensive PT at Michigan and completed his undergraduate degree. I know for a fact he affiliates himself with Michigan (seen plenty of social media interactions, photos with Breaston, Woodley and Hart). I think we should stop presuming things (not intended directly towards this reply) and take it at face value. The man has a lot of pride in his hometown.

Just like Cox, who was drafted out of UMass.   And those are the schools that are listed for them in their NFL team bios.  And maybe Mundy is being diplomatic by naming his high school so he doesn't have to choose between his two colleges.  (He's starting, by the way, because he was backing up Stevie Brown who's out for the season.)

Larry Foote said his high school instead of Michigan also. He said he does it because everyone knows Michigan; they don't need more publicity. So, he used it as a shout out to the Doughboys. Nothing wrong with that. I'd imagine the same is going on for Mundy. I'd highly doubt it's doing it to be neutral between Michigan and WV.

Mundy has been back training with Barwis since his days at WVU. And Mike Cox has gotten a lot bigger since he was in Ann Arbor many years ago...

Does anyone have any insight into how stories like these happen? It seems highly unlikely that a guy who is unsuccessful in college would become more than a practice team guy in the pros, but it seems to happen not infrequently. Where do the skills come from between college and the pros? There's no coaching going on in that period so what's the difference in the two leagues? Cox was never impressive here. The other recent guy is Stevie Brown, who was far from a world beater in college but turned into a stud in the pros thus far.

I didn't see a lot of cox because he was burried deep on the depth chart, but magnus was always a big fan of cox because of his size and blocking ability, and turns out that he was kind of right. It's interesting that cox is starting on special teams though but not in the backfield where cox could be dangerous.

I always thought cox kjinda got a raw deal. Looked really good and had some nice break away runs when he got the chance but was always in the doghousse for whatever reason.

I am really happy for Mike. I was disappointed he did not get a bigger role at UM. Every time I saw him, I really liked him and couldn't understand how we didn't use him more. Sometimes coaches just don't make the correct decisions. You can't always get it right.

Right now, I don't see what the coaches see in Fitz to give him the workload he is getting. His first two games are meh.

So far the RB I like best is DeVeon Smith. Bet he turns out to be really good.

here's a fun story: I was about to get freaky with a girl, then <<<<<RECORD SCRATCH>>>>> she asks something like "who do you like better, tom brady or peyton manning?". I choose tom brady, and she loses her shit, claiming that he doesn't even say UM in his NFL intro, but rather, his high school. we start drunkenly arguing and then she leaves in a huff.

TL:DR this girl wouldn't have sex with me b/c i didn't hate tom brady
