Ryan Ermanni canned at WDFN?

Submitted by AMazinBlue on

WDFN has had Dan Patrick on all week from 10-12:00 and their "weekly schedule" list DP's show, but they still have Ermanni as a link on the staff.  Did he finally get the boot after all the shennigans he's pulled and the pre-announcement of RR's firing?

Did a search and looked, but found no other posts and Google says nothing also.

You cannot listen to Matt Shephard without covering your ears while he yells at an unsuspecting caller regarding an indpisutable "non-issue" that the caller did not even mean to bring up.  Like "Are you trying to tell me that the Tigers don't need good pitching to win!?!?!, you are OUT OF YOUR MIND!!!"

It is truly the worst sports talk radio station of the planet.

I have to disagree.  I cannot bring myself to listen to 97.1's morning show.  Mike Stone is very good, but Bill, Sara and Ortiz are all truly awful.  They make me physically ill and quite irritable to listen to.  I need to just listen to NPR in the morning I suppose...

Also, I enjoy the 1130 afternoon show with Shaun, Terp and Killer.  Beats the hell out of Valenti and Foster (especially Foster, what a hack! At least Valenti has some idea about what his biased ass is talking about)!

Stoney and Bill are pretty solid but Sara makes me physically cringe. I can't stand her; her voice, her personality, her opinions. She brings nothing to the table.

Karsch and Anderson aren't too bad, a lot of Tigers and Lions stuff. Not a very funny show (despite attempts to be) but both guys seem level-headed.

As for the afternoon, Valenti is obviously a clown.

I don't listen to Matt Shepard much in the morning, but think he does a great job with Michigan basketball.  I think he needs a sidekick.

I still miss WDFN's Jamie and Greg (with Shep appearing the background).  That was a great mix of intelligence, humor, sports and some pop culture.

I live in Metro Detroit and I can't get that station in clearly.  It's too bad because I was a loyal listerner at the station's inception.

That said, who is Ermani and what's this regarding his past transgression as it relates to Michigan football?

He left the station after his contract was up..Not that DFN is/was relevant..But it was a choice if I did not like the topic on 971..Now with the horrid DP, its not an option..

fired, canned and the likefound nothing.  Either way, a minimal loss to local sports radio.  I'm no DP fan, but Ermanni was a Michigan fan if nothing else, but his lack of a filter caused him some issues with folks in AA and a certain pbp announcer for Michigan football.

Dan Patrick is the most insufferably smug, pleased-with-himself, "I'm so cool because I get to hang out with famous jocks on a first-name basis" sports personality I know of. I'd rather listen to that oaf Bill Simonson.

Ryan pretty much stated that he is sick of doing the long work days. He has been working up to 15 hours a day for a while now and said he can't do it anymore and will focus on his TV gig instead.

It's too bad because I like his radio show and especially loved it when he honked Michigan. I don't care if he sounded like a homer. I live in Ohio and get nothing but Cleveland radio, so getting positive talk about Michigan is great. Now all I have is Sam and Ira. I want more.

is a Michgian Fan or alum and  still hate his work.  He was smarmy, inconsistent, and hard to listen to.

I listen to TKA or King on Sirius these days, or nothing at all.

He was a Michigan homer that just wasnt listenable.  Everytime I listened all I could think of was that I or just about anyone I know could put on an equivalent product, he wasnt very good...Darn it DFN go get Art Regner, he is interesting to listen to and currently doesnt seem to do much more than fill in work on the radio.

Don't do anything that makes that clown think he should ever be anywhere a live mic. He is awful - the worse of the sorry lot of sports radio personalities we have in this town. Not one of them should ever have been allowed to purchase a Mr. Microphone, and the only way they should be on the air is if they purchase air time. Regner was the worst of the worst. I heard him say "when I was at Michigan" one time. I hope that meant he was once allowed to drive through campus without being arrested. I heard his finest hour, when he set a personal best time of asking a question in 12:32 - and then there was only a "yes or no" answer to it. He doesn't know sports (almost none of them in Detroit do), and can't talk. Other than that...........send him to Moose Jaw !

when I was home two weeks ago for the first time in a couple years... man, both stations managed to keep the worst of the two talent bases and are completely unlistenable. WDFN is a hollow zombie-like corpse of itself (sit down Mr Paterno), with Sean B now a shill, Kowalski flailing as a full time host, and other poor talent on the air. 97.1 managed to amplify the worst parts of Stoney (he needed Wojo as a counterbalance to make it work) AND continue to give a mic to Terry Foster / Mike Valenti / Pat Caputo.  Sad since when both were strong, Detroit's sports talk was as good as any city in the nation.

On another sports talk front, Steve Czaban's morning show (along with the rest of the Sporting News radio crew like Tim Brando) got bought out by Yahoo Sports, so they're now Yahoo Sports radio. Nice thing is I've texted Czaban's show and got a response that they're looking at bringing on a bunch of the Yahoo Sports writer talent including bloggers like Doc Sat for regular segments. If you need some sports talk in the mornings, I'd suggest Czaban on Sirius sat Channel 94-- it a national perspective with a funny group of guys that aren't nearly as smug on themselves as Mike&Mike.

And put him in the morning where it accentuates all his non-sport topic weaknesses. I thought it was just a temporary deal till they could get Wojo and replace Valenti with them. Because they used to kill everybody in the ratings, and I can't imagine their afternoon stooges are doing better. Then they could shift Valenti to the midnight shift with the drunks, where he belongs. Though sadly it would probably mean Karsh and Anderson, the only. Listen-worthy thing on that station would move.

They were on a different station. One that basically went under and laid EVERYBODY off (including, obviously, they're two most expensive employees). They've since brought back a partial, cheaper crew. Any ratings boost that occurred on the other station was due to the switch to FM signal. I don't think anyone in the industry doubts that Stoney & Wojo with an FM broadcast would return to the highest rated show in town. Maybe Wojo doesn't want to do it anymore, but if it's a station decision it's baffling.

On the way home I try to listen to WTKA, but between DeFran and the weak signal west of AA I end up spinning around listening for something other than another. "leyland sucks, and let me tell you why" bit.

I like to hear football talk, but other than that, if it's not some breaking news story, Sports Radio has sunk to the lowest levels imagineable.

not entertaining.  I just imagine some toothless,  ex con on meth with a gimp locked up in the back of his shack in Alabama waiting to call in and read a pre-written diatribe written in crayon about how Auburn or Alabama is all wrong and feel icky and change the station.

How can a few SEC teams  have such a following that they have their own captive satelite radio show?

We haven't had anyone worht listening to about sports in Michigan since Zaret, Gibson, and Danielson were canned. And then they are replaced with our current group of Sports expert wannabee hacks. The only thing dumber than anyone on the radio these days is the idiot who thought they should be on the air. Please, somebody, put some REAL talent on the air, someone who understands pro / college sports better than these guys, who are no better than anyone found in a Michigan sports bar (OK, 6 beer max).
