FauxMo: You're aware that he didn't play for Michigan, right?

I don't understand the point of this post. Other than "thoughts and prayers" (already covered), what is there to discuss? Sorry.

I don't know, man. It's Friday and I've been sitting in front of a computer for about 50-55 hours this week. This gives me something to distract my mind for a few minutes here and there. Plus, a former OSU player blowing out an ACL cannot possibly be less relevant to us than 95% of the shit that's been posted here the last month, right?

how common ACL tears are, and how much money is invested in pro players, why aren't these guys practicing/playing with knee braces on?

ACL tears are caused by high torque unnatural twisting of the knee, right?  Shouldn't all of these guys be wearing braces that would prevent that twisting?

Any orthopaedic MDs on the board to weigh in?

to go in with me on a start-up to develop a knee brace that will actually reduce the unnatural twisting that produces ACL tears?

Joking aside, there are knee braces already on the market that claim to help prevent ACL tears, right?

Isn't it just a matter of making sure the brace is sufficiently and robustly taped into place so it won't move when that twisting torsion thing happens?

I know I know. Damn autocorrect. And this app...I spent like 10 minutes typing in this long reply and it didn't post. So then I reposted and misspelled. Went back to point out misspelled word and it wouldn't let me post again. Hardly ever reply anymore for his reason.

convinced that it would not be very hard to design a knee brace that would allow a certain small degree of natural knee twisting, but would prevent the sort of unnatural twisting that produces ACL tears.

Linemen often wear braces, but mostly to prevent hyperextension and the commong sideways impacts that they are constantly exposed to.

But has to be possible to design a brace that limits the twisting torque that tears ACLs.

Not without completely immobilizing your lateral movement or literally having it embedded in your skin. Ever put on of those OL braces on? You can't turn for shit. Now imagine one that allows for no twisting, it's just not feasible. The human body has evolved the ability to twist and turn like this, but it comes with the potential danger of it twisting too much and causing damage. This is actually fascinating and explains how our bodies are built on the razor's edge from everything like vision to hearing, and mobility. I think there was a "Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman" about this idea

An ACL tear (skipped class to play ball at CCRB) is the most pain I've ever experienced.  Although a close second was the physical therapist who decided to break through the scar tissue manually (the guy next to me got to go to the hospital and be put under to do the same thing).

Hope he makes a full recovery.  I still hate osu.

As a Dolphins fan, it's been a tough week. Starting QB reinjures his knee and is out for the year, starting guard tears his bicep and will be out for half the season, and now starting MLB tears his ACL in punt coverage on literally his first play. We didn't even get to see him take a snap on defense.
