Rutgers Names New AD

I guess this is board worthy since Rutgers will join the BIG next season. (sigh)
Rutgers has hired Louisville senior associate athletic director Julie Hermann as AD. Julie will become only the third female AD at a BCS school joining NC State's Debbie Yow and Cal's Sandy Barbour. Julie was selected over Wisconsin deputy athletic director Sean Frazier.

This is a great opportunity for Hermann, but it could also be a "career-killer" if she isn't careful.  Rutgers is moving up to a conference that may be a bit beyond their abilty to compete in major sports.  They have had a lot of upheaval there.  Hermann is taking over a program that is not only facing its biggest challenge ever, but facing it while trying to rebuild conficence in its commitment to ethical behavior.

In five years, she will either be a hero or a very high-profile failure.  I hope she succeeds, as long as Rutgers never, ever beats Michigan.

Michigan is in town, in which case I hope her first reaction becomes one  of looking for a hiding place.

I wonder why there are only two (now 3) female ADs in the BCS?  Maybe because the other two are trainwrecks?  Sandy Barbour totally botched the football stadium renovation project to a laughable degree, and Debbie Yow is, well Debbie Yow (if unfamiliar, google for a good laugh).

Hermann just took easily the hardest job in major college athletics and is taking over after an absolute mess of a scandal.

It'd be nice if one of these seldom appointed female ADs could be, ya know, competent.  Good luck Julie!
