Rutgers @ Michigan(-22.5)

Submitted by Walter Sobchak on
Good Friday morning all. On SPORTSBOOK right now, UM is only -22.5 against Rutgers, which seems quite low to me. Looking at how their offense matches up with our defense and that they just gave up >400 yards to Purdue at home, I think Michigan should be able to cover this one. Thoughts?

we beat them by 78 last year and we're only a 22.5 point favorite.

I say we cover easily.  JOK probably doesn't even have to throw a pass to get us to 40 points.  And I assume the entire team will want to take out their frustrations.

Seriously, I would be pretty happy to see our offense score in the twenties. Not sure why anyone would think 22.5 is too low based on where our offense is unless you think our defense is going to score a couple of TD's.

I think Higdon will go for ~150yards  and the TE's will get their mojo back.

I'm thinking something along the lines of 35-7 or 42-14 so I'd have to agree with you - if I were to bet on this one I'd say UM covers.

I would think we beat the spread handily.  The spread seems to reflect some recency bias - our beat down was at the hands of the No. 2 team in the nation.

Rutgers is ass.  The biggest danger of this game is it gives us false hope that our running game is fixed.  Give the points.

I think this is something along the lines of 38-6 or 42-7 type game. I think it will be tough for Rutgers to score without getting a short field. I think the offense will look good tomorrow.

I'd take the points.  Michigan's offense is a serious liability.  I'm only half convinced that we will score more than 20 points in regulation.

Why does it seem low to you? What has the offense shown you against ANY opponent that makes you think they'll be able to move the ball with authority and score consistently? Purdue had a supposedly terrible defense and they made our OL look atrocious. So did Cincinnatti, and so did Air Force.

Not saying we won't win and I don't think it will be really close in the end, but I think the game will be a 28-7 kind of affair. The defense gets back to its dominant ways, largely shuts Rutgers' offense down, but the offense still can't get it out of it's own way. We'll be shitting ourselves when it's deep into the fourth quarter and its still only 21-7.

Luckily for them, they're playing Rutgers.

Yeah and Hoke said after the Minnesota and Rutgers game in 2014 that he believed his team could still win the Big Ten. We heard after the spring game and all offseason about how much more cohesive the OL looked, how much more athletic it was, and how they all seemed to be on the same page. We all heard that THIS was the year where the OL would start looking like a Michigan OL again. Yada. Yada. Yada. Same story, different year.

Talking and talk and walking the walk are two very different things. We may have seen the run game improve to some degree, but the offense still turned the ball over five times against MSU. O'Korn couldn't muster more than 60 flippin' passing yards against Indiana. The pass protection is still a disaster. WRs still can't get any separation. Whether we're talking about freshmen (who somewhat get a free pass) or experienced guys like Grant Perry. The tight ends are non-existent. Whether that's on them or the play-calling (I'm inclined to believe the latter), we can't say. But they're still not part of the gameplan for whatever reason. And that run game you're saying has improved? It still got shut down by Penn State.

We're going to need a hell of a lot more than a very slowly improving run game if we ever expect to even compete for a conference championship. I don't believe we'll see any overall improvement until I actually see it happen on the field.

I don't know if we will cover. Rutgers has the 33rd ranked defense per S&P.

Our other opponents' defenses ranked:

  • Florida - 38th
  • Cincinnati - 93rd
  • Air Force - 109th
  • Purdue - 34th
  • Michigan State - 3rd
  • Indiana  - 20th
  • Penn State - 9th

Nothing I've seen indicates the offense will be able to put up 23 or more points. If the defense scores once or twice, maybe.

I don't know. Purdue just went up and down the field on the for the most part, they were mostly hosed by bad execution in the red zone and poor field position. I think Okorn looked improved last week. If he can cut down on the sacks, I think we should be able to move the ball efficiently. Then again, I'm a hopeless optimist for Michigan football, so take it for what it is.

I think this is a tougher game than it appears but seriously why the hell is Rutgers in the Big Ten? There has to be someone better the league could have gotten.

Just hoping for a stress-free win without any injuries.

Rutgers beat a decent Purdue team...I have a feeling this game will be closer than many want. I think we only win by a disappointing margin. Something below 20 points

...if we come out with a fast start and take away any notion they have a chance....if not, then i watch my back-up team for the remainder of the season.

friday negbang for you mgolosers. been lookin at the big ten east standings and see us, michigan and nj intercollegiate football brethren, tied for 4th place - but this game feels like the begninng of something big at RU, like pedophile state goin on to win big tenn last year, hoping RU also can win out and claim big 10  via tiebreaker  ( but probably get snubbed for playoff - similarly to ped st).

At this point in year 3 - it is becoming painfully obvious for michigan fans: harbaugh isn't the guy to bring UofM back to whatever relevance you feel privileged to despite no meaningful near history, while chris ASH is on the rise. if not for beautiful uniforms, michigan is jsut a pimple on the butt of college football landscape - a landscape taht has moved EAST from nebraska and is centering upon our NEW JERSEY, a small slice of divinity in this otherwise savage and cold world / flint. imagine - paying a coach eleven million dollars a year to finish behind pedophile worshipers annually. is there nothign more insulting than that 5pm call from the alumni association asking for money? while coach is taking all these braindead kids to see the POPE? I NEVER MET THE POPE BEFORE I LOVE THE POPE must be nice but sure here's 50$ alumni association, that couldve paid my electric billl but no, ill give it to you even tho you have a coach making 11 million a year and TALKING TOT EH POPE and losing to ped u. joke city

as far as game goes - i am posting a excellent summary here for you to feast your pale and blotchy skinned midwestern faces upon - michigan is on upset alert: https://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/threads/im-placing-michigan-on-upset-…

i will not be attending this year, as i have to nurture a 4 day old future next great rutgers linebacker baby daughter. hoping for clean game and excellent sportsmanship. and a sincere thanks for all the MONEY!!!!!!!$$WOO
