Rutgers / Marcus Witherspoon Update
I was reading an article about LaLota transferring to Rutgers. There was an interesting item about Marcus Witherspoon (LB recruit out of NJ that had clearinghouse issues and was not admitted to M).
The interesting quote: "In 2008, linebacker Marcus Witherspoon, a star at Holy Spirit High in Atlantic City, transfered from Michigan but he never panned out and left school last spring."
Here's the link to the article: http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2010/09/lalota_is_happy_to_be_a_scarle.html

I've got pubic hairs more interesting than that article.

I believe this info has been out in open for quite some time. We hardcore fans are well aware of Witherspoon's path the last few years.

Yes, because being "a hardcore fan" isn't travelling from Chicago to Michigan and back for every single home-game, and being a life-long fan of the team. It means knowing the academic details of a kid who never set foot on campus.
Jesus H. Tap-Dancing Christ, you're generally a very reasonable dude. Save the dickishness.

Witherspoon did step foot on campus and was lifting with the team for a while, but i think had some shoulder injury and wasnt prepared for what he got himself into academically and physically with Michigan football. I guess it was just college football and academics all together though.

That's so hardcore.

You've been a member since June 2008 and this is still news to you?

A few members in this thread it seems.

Ok, hold the fuck on. Someone posts an article that may be of interest and you guys immeditaley start ripping him? God forbid someone actually has a job, and kids, and A LIFE that he didn't know this. MJV was once a regular around here, it's because of bullshit like this that he's not anymore. It's trite and annoying.
For the record, I had no idea either, and 'Spoon was my favorite recruit that year. Care to dispute my status as a "hardcore fan"? Try it. I'll Munge-jump your grandma while wearing a maize and blue cape, bitch.

Are you doing your best Lee Elia impersonation?
By the way, what was the name of that other linebacker recruit that also decommitted -- it seemed like we were stacked with linebacker recruits and then it was just Kenny Demens and JB Fitzgerald.

AND PRINT IT!!"
- Elia
You're thinking Taylor Hill. Seem to recall he just wasn't comfortable and didn't make it to first day of classes.

Have you heard anything new regarding the big announcement from your source at Tennessee?

Marvin, sorry if I offended your gentle nature and profound moral character with my language. Or............not so much.
aa, it's not my fault most people are idots and believe anything the read on the interwebs.

as I recently wondered how things are going for spoon. I was very sad to see that he didn't make it in and hope things work out for him. Kid was a stud in HS and I thought he would do well. I consider myself a hardcore fan that follows recruiting but this is news to me. Thanks for posting. Junp all over someone that posts the seventh weather update during game week if you like but there is no need to trash someone for posting this.

Witherspoon arrived on campus. He was working out with the team.
Much like what seems to be the case with Davion Rogers, Witherspoon had a Clearinghouse issue and transferred to Rutgers immediately.

pan out wherever he goes.
From a distance, I sure wish he would have given Michigan a second chance. Maybe he did.
Very athletic player for a DL and it's a shame that Michigan lost his future services.

He was buried on the depth chart for a team that lacks depth. Guaranteed success for him is somewhat unlikely...

Beware tough matchups with Norfolk State and Florida International. Welcome Rutgers' return from mediocrity to their first 100 years of football.

Are we criticizing Rutgers' schedule amidst a Michigan schedule that includes BGSU and UMass...a year after scheduling Delaware State and EMU?
September 21st, 2010 at 3:26 PM ^
No, we're criticizing their trouble with those teams... and getting outgained by ~300 yards by FIU.
One game does not a program make... but 100 years of suck does.
September 21st, 2010 at 9:42 PM ^
Once again...do I need to remind you of our 42-37 victory over UMass a few days ago?
September 21st, 2010 at 10:25 PM ^
Yeah, you're completely overreacting to a flippant comment ragging on Rutgers for being Rutgers. Maybe go snack on some pimentos?
September 21st, 2010 at 10:29 PM ^
You're right. I'm a wild man. I've completely flipped my lid.
September 21st, 2010 at 5:03 PM ^
Hopefully we stop recruiting these players that have clearing house issues.
