acording to ESPN (http://espn.go.com/new-york/college-sports/story/_/id/10445006/rutgers-p...), Rutgers has opted to buy themsleves out of thier $11.5 million contract with the American Athletic confrence. They will be officialy instated to the B1G July 1st, 2014
Rutgers to become official B1G member July 1, 2014
As Michigan fan living 20 minutes from their campus I welcome them with open arms.
Jersey guidos are psyched to meet youze in the fall.
To be fair, that looks like a tool-set just as easily found at MSU
Thanks a lot Jersey Shore.
They have the money to buy out of the conference but they don't have it to go get a real football coach?
They have spent a lot more for their assistants this year though. So I guess they're getting a little looser with the cash.
I can see the Big Ten and its fans along the parade route now...
I am just about as excited as everyone else on the board about this addition but after seeing Rutgers get shit on I will be rooting for the underdog. I hope they enter the B1G and win a bunch of games just so people will stop bitching about them.
they will say that the conference is weak.
I understand where you're coming from, but Rutgers succeeding like that immediately will only weaken the national perception of the Big Ten.
Can we give the ACC 11.5 to take them back?
Personally I'll root for Rutgers against Maryland and MSU and OSU against both.
BTW I was under the impression that both new additions were already slated for this summer. Was this not the case with Rutgers? We were going to have a 13-team conference for a year?
Just what we need: an new Indiana* in terms of football, that's no good at basketball.

They dilute the product on the field, have zero fanbase and contribute nothing to football or basketball, the ONLY sports that matter.
It's a move motivated by greed to get cable packages on local networks. It's a transparent money grab that's insulting to every existing member of the conference.
What are you talking about? Every game is already on TV. This is to make people like my parents, who would never watch a game, pay a quarter to get BTN on their local cable packages.
the presidents and ADs actually concluded all these things and STILL went ahead with the idea. Not. This one will take some time, but it will earn out.
Do we still have time to send them back? What is the return policy at the AAC? I suppose if worse comes to worse we can always regift them.
Didn't we get an inspection? Did someone come out to inspect the sewers? What about the appraisal?
After actually looking at the article, I think the OP had a reading comprehension fail on this post. They got the fee down from $15 million to the $11.5 million quoted so they could join on the exact same date they planned to all along.
A day that will go down in infamy
You know we're all counting down the days until you're officially in.
This article is two months old, so my apologies if you've seen it before, but I thought it was a decent summary of what Delaney has done and is trying to do:
I like the quote from Maryland's president, paraphrasing Delaney: it's no longer about butts in seats, but eyes on screens.
Here you guys were talking down about R team, but R first B1G win was against youze guys!!!
