Rumor: Yellow Jerseys for ND Night Game

Take this with a grain of NaCl but I've now heard this from multiple people who don't know each other:

Michigan's night game jersey will be Yellow.

No word yet on if it will be like the blue and white hockey sweaters with number on chest like has been discussed on the board but IDK. Could this mean white pants?! OMGz.

I don't remember fans

and alumni pulling their hair out, jumping out of windows, and lying in ruin in a place where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth every time the Michigan basketball teams suit up for a game in all maize kits. Maybe I just haven't been paying close enough attention.

The horror!

Probably because it first happened at least 20 years ago . . .

Very true - howeva

That's very true.  However, I submit that a change to one of the most-recognized uniform in college football is a much more drastic change than any change to the Michigan basketball jerseys.  But that's just me.

Agree here...

Michigan's football uniform is a cultural icon; the basketball uniform isn't.  Except for the baggy shorts and black shoes worn by the Fab Five, of course.  I don't think Michigan football is ready for that kind of culture shock.  Besides, the lighting is a lot different on a football field because of the grass (or turf that looks like grass).

When did the Michigan basketball team wear soccer uniforms?

A kit is the entire uniform

jersey, shorts, socks, shoes, undershirt, helmet (if required).

Just because they call an entire soccer uniform a kit doesn't mean that forever after only soccer uniforms are referred to as kits.

This is the picture that has popped up on scout.

This is the picture that has popped up on scout as most closely resembling what they'll wear.

Note: The artist points out that this jersey should have been painted white.

F- Me

F- me and F- that jersey design.  I'm glad I didn't get tickets to the ND game from the Alumni Association.  (I lie - I'm still extremely bitter about it and might break down and pay $100s to attend.)

Alumni Tickets

Have you actually heard from the Alumni Association that you didn't get tickets, or have you just not heard yet?  I have not heard yet about my application, and am now increasingly nervous.

I wouldn't mind this jersey if Adidas didn't produce it. Unfortunately, if they do it will be closer to the highlighter color the student tees are.

PSU #8?

Who would ever want to follow in Paterno's footsteps?  That's a succession that's almost destined to fail.

seriously?

Paterno's feet have shrunk enough that the shoes are only metaphoric in size. Paterno has gotten to the point of almost being a poor man's Lloyd... 8-9 win seasons are consistently valid/accepted/expected

Agreed, in part

I agree with you insomuch as we are talking about win-loss performance.  However, the icon that is Paterno is still large and imposing.  I would not want to work in that shadow, especially because you know he is not just going away entirely (see Carr's tenure in the AD office).

Yikes

Put me down for a grain of CaCl2. Larger grains for a more ridiculous rumor.

If true, sign me up for the striped olde timey jerseys we were bitching about a couple of weeks ago. And give me a beer.

Some traditions should change, some shouldn't

Night games are cool. So is blue at home.

Even night games at home - I hope it is only a once per year type deal. And a few more 1530 games on top of it. I don't want to turn into the Big East with a ton of Friday and Thursday night games.

And we wear blue at home.

first the striped jerseys with the block M in front, now the all yellow look... David Brandon is trying to regain the "element of surprise" and get back some of that "wow factor" that we lost when Brian Kelly decided to let the cat out fo the bag...

Let me play some Devil's Advocate

First off, I think the home blues are untouchable, should be what we wear at home. I'm less obsessive about the road whites - they can change the piping and whatever else.

With these Maize Jerseys: What's going to be the HUGE AWFUL OMG Deal? If it's a 1 time "fake throwbacky cash grab" like we expect whatever they wear will be, will it be so awful? It will sure as hell look weird, and seem off... but I don't think it will be earth-ending. The next week we'll wear our best-jersey-in-college-football-home-Blues and we'll be set.

The Athletic Department will probably sell thousands of these, make a ton of cash, and never have to put ads in the stadium. I for one have always wished we had a 3rd jersey (for road games only!!) that was Maize, because I think the lack of a Maize jersey hurts Maize-outs. I have a White and a Blue jersey, and I cant wear them to Maize-out games because I want to wear Maize. PSU's white outs work because everyone can wear a white jersey. We can't do a maize out that looks decent without a Maize jersey.

I won't like it during the game, the highlights will look weird, and the people who buy them will most likely be considered poseurs. But... if we have to do one of the things that everyone else does to make money, would 1 night of different jerseys at home be all that bad? Better than ads, better than permenant changes to the jerseys, better than a lot of stuff.

I'd much prefer all white

I'd much prefer all white jerseys over all yellow (no racist).

I think it would be pretty kickass if they built up the fact that we are going to use throwbacks and then wore our normal jerseys and helmets with maybe white pants or something.

I think that job would be the opposite of boring!  Think about the challenges of hiding the truth.  Churchill once said something to the effect that the truth is so valuable that oftentimes it must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies. That takes a lot of work!

Iowa State came out with a gold jersey last year. I know their other color is red but I initially thought all yellow would. After seeing both, we would definately be better off with blue pants. Too much yellow is not good.

Love the guys and the team, but I'll hate the dumb jersey

We only get 12 football games a season, 14 next year if we're lucky. Especially a game that's as big an event as the Notre Dame game is becoming, if I manage to somehow come all the way back to watch them, I'd like to see them wear the uniforms that mean Michigan football to me.

Of course I won't stop rooting for them - it's my alma mater, I'll root for them no matter what. But to drastically change a look that's remained remarkably consistent over 74 years for a short-sighted money grab (that I think weakens the long term brand strategy of Michigan football) - that's just heartless. And it won't look like Michigan football to me.

And when I see them wearing something silly on the field - it WILL take away from the experience, just like Ohio State's bullcrap uniforms have taken away from the game these last two seasons. Yes, the bigger issue with those games was that we were completely outplayed. But didn't it feel like salt on the wound that they didn't even wear their supposedly "iconic" uniforms against us?

Throwback uniforms for Michigan football cheapens the experience for me.

Rumor that I hear is that MDen is getting

these Maize Jerseys in soon, so people think it's for the ND night game.

However, I seem to recall MDen & others always selling maize jerseys. IMO, this means nothing.

I like the all white road

I like the all white road jerseys from the mid-70's.  But we're the home team and we're not LSU, so that obviously wouldn't work.

Maybe we should just wear our current jerseys.  I'm tired of worrying about how ugly the "throwbacks" might look.

I once heard we wore maize jerseys vs Navy in 1928.  Either way, I like this jersey, though would prefer it be more maize & less highlighter yellow.

Don't mind Maize jerseys as

Don't mind Maize jerseys (as a one-time thing) as long as:

- Adidas gets the color right

- They don't put some weird stripes or something on it

- The pants are blue.  White pants will look weird b/c maize and white are both lighter colors, and maize jerseys with maize pants will be too much maize

But the chances of all 3 of the above happening are about zero.  Adidas will find some way to screrw it up, as they always do.

I think it'd hurt my eyes, and I think it weakens our brand. Michigan's cachet, like Penn State's or Alabama's, is that we don't mess with our look. Oregon's is that they do on a weekly basis. Schools like Florida or Georgia that do sometimes just look silly to me.

Not to mention that if we're trying to salute the history of our football team, i'd rather have the silly looking stripes than a maize jersey.

For the love of sweet Demond

For the love of sweet Desmond Howard doing the Heisman pose, hell no. My reasons in no real order:

First, all maize (or gold or yellow) looks horrible in football.  Please see Cal, WVU, Minnesota, or anyone else who has ever tried it.  They are just ugly.  It works in basketball, and maize works as a hockey jersey.  It will not work in football.

Second, people will freak the hell out.  It disgusts me and I'm 40.  ("I'm a man! I can take it!" - that Coach Gundy quote is literally the best thing about being 40, but I digress.)  There are many, mostly older Michigan fans who will HATE this.  Why piss off the majority of the fan base?

Third,  tradition.  We already have a  "throwback."  It is called the home jersey.  If you want to put numbers on the helmets like Bump or early Bo, fine. There is precedent for that.  Just not some fabricated peice of crap because we told ABC we would do someting specal for them.

Fourth, this is a pure money grab to sell the "third jersey".  What's next - putting a white block with "Arby's" on it like a European futbol team?  If you run out and buy it you are being played.

Fifth, GET OFF MY LAWN.  Yes, I know this post sounds like pure old guy rage.  I am old and I am feeling rage on this one.  Forgive me.

Finally, the worst reason for this I have seen is the "I'll be able to wear it to maize outs" thing.  If you want to rock a maize jersey to maize outs, go to Moes and get yourself a damn hockey jersey.  Works fine and you're not pissing on Michigan football tradition.

Now that's pretty sweet.

Now that's pretty sweet.  Wish I could +1 you.....  What'd they raise the threshold to, like 8,000?

Yes

That would be fine with this grumpy old man.

But . . . wait.  When did Roh change his name to first eight letters of the alphabet?  How do you prounce that?  This is worse than when Prince turned himself into a symbol.
