Rumor: Turner is enrolling at WVU Mon

Submitted by jimmyh on

This from a very reliable source Justin Turner is going to West Virginia University and will set out a year.

No turner beleived he should be treated like a baby and wasn't that's why he left. I wish he would have maned up and played like a champion but e took the easy road. I wish him the best but I am fine with his departure. (a little less then the other day but still ok with it)

If that's true, that might be the biggest d*ck move, even more so than Boren- who at least had a history with OSU.  Once you knew he was leaving, it was logical to assume he'd to Ohio State.  This Turner situation is kinda like dumping a girl and sleeping with her former BFF, who's now her biggest enemy, just to rub it in.  I'd be thinking bad blood between Turner and Coach Rodriguez on a very personal level, like 'keeping a voodoo doll at home' level.  But then again, if Turner can't get into playing shape here, is he somehow going to magically shake off those 10 extra pounds and become a beast at WVU?  Doubt it.  Habits have a way of becoming habitual, you know?

I couldn't disagree more.  Going to Ohio State is by far the bigger stab in the back, and throwing out BS claims of family values on the way out makes it considerably worse.  Just because WVU hates us doesn't mean we hate them.  I certainly don't care about them...not in conference, never beaten us in a memorable fashion, don't play every year etc.  To say Turner can't get in playing shape in a year is naive in my opinion, he got into playing shape in high school and most certainly can again.  Maybe the environment here wasn't good for him and he gave up on it, maybe he knew he was going to transfer and thus assumed a year off and slacked because of it.  We may never know, but to say he has a personal vendetta against Rich Rod is a stretch, as is doubting his ability to lose 10 pounds over the course of a year.

Turner did not make any parting shots on his way out.  There have been no statements coming out from anyone - Turner, his family or the program that would give you any basis that there was bad blood.  This is in no way comparable to Boren, who was  a starter and who took parting shots.

Pretty much you are conjecturing like a certain Detroit radio program.  Mike Valenti, is that you?

I'm pretty sure players can't get a scholarship after transferring within the conference. So the options are1) paying his own way at OSU; or 2) playing at WVU.

Going to WVU was a pretty logical decision - no backhanded stab at RichRod to see here.

It sounds to me like (coming in late) he got off on the wrong foot at Michigan. It was an eye opener for a five star, and he pretty much never was able to recover. I think starting over somewhere else, with a year "off" to work his way in is a good move for him.

I don't have a problem with him going to West Virginia, and I wonder if his placement there was aided by our own coaching staff.

reason given for JT's departure ? I hope RR will not hide behind that "I only talk about players right now at Michigan  crap...".

I think the guy is a fantastic coach and all, but he needs to learn to be a little more political. This would help him immensley with the media and 18-20 year olds.

the WVU S&C requirements will be similar to Michigan since Barwis set up that program and they basically use RR's offense. On D, (I think) they use Casteel's 3-3-5 D, which is similar enough to GERG. If it just is a lazy issue, this makes no sense.

For some reason, Turner hates RR and I don't think we'll know why.

West Virginia recruited Turner, and it's close to his hometown (~3hr drive). Despite those facts, lets just jump to the conclusion that he's transferring to a school solely to piss off Rich Rod. Of course, this would also mean that Rodriguez would be upset if Turner went to his alma mater and to play under a coach that Rodriguez worked with for many years.

Personally, all I care about is that Turner goes out of conference, so WVU would be just fine.

...having spoken to him, I can't say what his attitude was like. However, we can surmise it was less than a good one.

Plus, given the fact that he apparently couldn't take criticism and reprimand, he would have been problematic moving forward, I'm afraid.

Many of these kids think that enrolling in D1 football will be an automatic ticket to the NFL. Attitude and work ethic are arguably just as important as physical gifts, as seems apparent in this case.

I figured it was an extremeley long shot but I was clinging to the irrational hope that he would come back when he heard about Woolfolk. Stupid wishful thinking.
