Rumor: Se'Von Pittman tried to commit
Wormley over Pittman? Isn't Pittman higher rated? I hope this doesnt turn him away if the staff ends up wanting to take him
Wormley is so broad that I could see him being moved inside and the staff likes him as a DT better than Pittman. Also, if we can get Washington and Stanford, that would be better than Pittman.
you're talking about two guys who are both 4 stars, one is "ranked" #11 DE the other is #13 according to scout. The coaches look at film and live games and see who is best for the defense they are trying to employ. I can't really say at this stage one is truly better than the other, I trust the coaches to prefer one kid to project better to their system.
If there are grade issues it makes 100% sense. No reason to give a schollie to a player that may not get to campus in June 2012. Staff can afford to be picky no matter how many stars a kid has.
take Wormley over Pittman. I guess they"re hoping he can be an absolute beast his senior year but i wouldnt count on that. Pittman is for sure the better player and i would be gravely dissapointed if we missed out on him if wormley doesnt work out.
I would guess it would be because they think Wormley can potentially switch to a 3-tech whereas Pittman is more a WDE or a SDE which we already have (though not at his level). They probably feel pretty confident about getting the Washington/Stanford duo.
Yeah I'm going to call bull shit on this one.
He might not have tried but it is also suspected he has grades issues and the staff might not be able to take him.
Ok I just found the rumor... but we wouldn't push a recruit to the side like that. This would provide openings for tsio or someone else to grab him. It just doesn't make sense. He's a HUGE RECRUIT and is higher than Wormley. Wormley can also be pushed around a bit to different positions/techniques. I WANT PITTMAN and WASHINGTON!!! Wormley has his strengths as well but I don't see us pushing a HUGE recruit like that to the side.
Well I think the grades are a big issue here. I'd rather have a guy like Wormley who qualifies over a "higher rated" (but still pretty close) player who wouldn't qualify.
The coaches know what they're doing, if this did indeed happen. I still want to hear a quote from Pittman or his coaches before believing it, though.
Pittman's grades can't be all that bad if he plans on graduating in December. I do agree with you 100% if Pittman's grades are terrible, I don't want him. My belief is if they talk like a Kemba Walker then they shouldn't be in college and start back in kindergarten.
I'm sure if this rumor is true the coaches see something in Wormley that they like better than Pittman, whether it be grades, playing style, etc...That's not to say Wormley is a better player than Pittman or vice versa, but at this point the coaches can be a little more selective and choose the players that they see fitting their system best. Don't put too much into it, I think I trust the Michigan coaches who have analysed these recruits more than I trust a recruit rating system or myself.
That definitely fits the theories about how the rest of the class is going to fill up. There are definitely a number of comparable recuits along the DL and only the coaches know which particular ones they covet the most. I guess they want the two-fer of Washington and Stanford. It appears we may be full sooner than expected.
There's a lot of speculation in that rumor. I'd like to see a quote directly attributed to Pittman, his family, or his coach before buying that one.
However, at some point, this scenario will play out. There are limited spots left and a lot of offers on the table. I'm sure the coaches have been "working the phones" and have a pretty good idea who's in and who's out.
If true, M could have taken him. This will be a class of 25 or 26 - we're simply in on too many quality players
I dont see hoke turning down talent that wants to commit.
If Pittman was truly turned away by the staff, I don't think that's something he'd flaunt publicly. Still, I'm anxiously awaiting Tom's Weekly Update
If this is true, then the staff must be really confident in it's position with the others to turn down Pittman. I hope this all works out for us in the end.
Scout never engages in rumor mongering or falsifying information for added memberships...How dare you even consider such a travesty.
You are right. And Nick Saban only signs thirty players every year in order to give more players a chance to get a quality education.
But isn't it so much more fun to have these rumors related to "OMG we don't have room for all of these 4-stars" rather than "Will SOMEONE please play linebacker? Anyone? Bueller?"
I'm just waiting for the 4-star mafia to come out..
WHY ONLY 4-STARS?! WE WANT 5-STARS.
WHY ONLY 4 STARS? WE NEED 5 STARS!!! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!
That's right. Enough of this recruiting four star players.
"we'd love to have you in this class, but you need to (i think grades may be a problem) get your grades up then we'd like you to commit" i highly doubt they'd say don't commit we think players are better than you and you will be our back up plan
too many 4* defensive ends! alas!
Hoke points at Pittman. Pounds on podium.
Grades rise dramatically.

Rivals is really an outlier on Wormley
#86 nationally at only 20 lbs; impressive, most impressive.
This was started on Ohio premium, by the Ohio analyst, who stated that he was speculating, and had no actual concrete proof, and that you would never catch Pittman going on the record with it. This was his OPIONION on what MAY have happened, but had ZERO evidence that it actually did.
The original information was a far cry from what the game of telephone has produced on the internets.
While it's true that he explicitly stated that there was no proof, it wasn't just his own idle speculation. He heard it from a source he clearly considers to be unreliable, but it wasn't just something he was reading from tea leaves
I highly doubt we just stright told him we don't want you to commit without a valid reason, if true. Even if Wormley and Washington were in a position to commit, Pittman is just too good to pass up. It probably has to due with grades.
Also, I can't make a thread yet, but I was on scout and someone posted that the 5 star Stanford de-commit Azziz Shittu made the link below his Facebook profile picture. Just thought I'd share.
Denard looks so badass in those uniforms.
I've been sitting on some info for a few days, I'll have it in the Weekly Update.
can you just give us some cryptic info so we can get through this slow media day
It's nothing you probably haven't heard now, I'll see if I can post the Weekly today rather than tomorrow.
so i take it those Gunner Kiel rumors were made up?
I don't know how you came to that conclusion from what I just said.
i was just asking wasnt really a statement from the last one.
You just got Tom VH'd
His plan is to ask a series of leading questions until you give up something. It's basically 20 Questions.
not expecting to answer every question and just seeing if he can verify or shoot down some rumors
I was encouraging you. We need MOAR INFO.
i thought you were making fun of how many questions i ask. i do think we need moar info but i dont think bothering Tom is the best way to do it might as well wait for his weekly update and check a bunch of other sites and see all the BS they post because they have no real info
Maybe if we all buy TomVH some shots he'll get talkative...
So much for me leaving the house today
God, I hope the coaching staff wouldn't turn down a committment from him unless he has some serious grade issues.
Or, you know, if they had a different evaluation of the kid. Or if they had different recruiting priorities. Or if they know things about the other recruits that we don't know.
No. Only grades. Otherwise, I think it would be a mistake. His film is pretty convincing to me. Of course the coaches and I could disagree, but that wouldn't change my opinion.
If (a) the coaches like Wormley/Washington/whomever more than Pittman, (b) they don't have room for both, and (c) they think they are pretty likely to land their preferred recruit, why wouldn't they wait? They aren't saying, "We don't want this kid," they're saying "we want to see how things play out."
Sure. But as a recruiting fan, sometimes I like a player's film and want him to come to Michigan. If that player offers his committment to Michigan, I am disappointed if Michigan doesn't accept it. I'm not saying that the coaches are wrong, just that I would prefer that they make a different decision. Pittman is a guy that I really like. He's 6'4 240 and extremelely athletic. It seems like he is either going to play for us, or for a team that we play every year. I would prefer that he plays for Michigan.
And I'm with you for the most part; I'd LOVE to have this kid in the class. I'm just not going to get too disappointed until we see how everything shakes out.
He said he doesn't think Pittman will be part of the class on Facebook Michigan recruiting center.
And remember when Adolphus and Pittman were the 2 OSU locks at D-End in Ohio and that we would have to settle for the "second-tier" ends they have like Wormley....Brady Hoke is legitimately making me wake up in a greater mood each and every day.
Ohio imploding has to help too. It does with me, anyway.
Watch out--as Tater says, the Olentangy Mafia might have to silence you for that last remark.
I hope it's not true, but every recruiting class has a player you wish your team signed. The defensive line class is just too deep to get everyone. I wanted ifeadi odenigdo but that didn't work out to well either. The only thing that im afraid of is if we don't take him and he goes to msu.
I would think he would head south if he doesn't come here or OSU, but I don't like idea that he may go to a divisional rival either.
This staff has gained my respect when it comes to recruiting. Obviously there are some grade issues that are serious enough that he might not be able to make it in. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking a kid to hold off and work some things out. You don't want to take a commit and possibly lose out on a player like Washington (which could also mean Stanford) If their is a possibility the kid can't make it in academically. It just feels good to know that we have the option to tell a kid to hold off because we have so many top rated guys interested in us.
I expect Wormley to announce this week. Tom, do you see this pushing Washington to move up his announcement?
